One of the 250+ shows a year Bill would do, uploaded here for the first time. Enjoy!! Please consider a contribution to the Bill Hicks Foundation for Wildlife Rehabilitation at billhicks.org.
He was getting gigs at 14. By the time he was 30 he was doin this stuff on stage for 16 years. Some guys don't even start by that age. Hicks was the best.
@@rigursos7520he is though. Not to everyone's taste but that's what makes society great, differences. But those like minded are his people and those that ain't he wasn't bothered about. Same as me b
@@paulmcdonough1093 I've been there 99% of my life and a part of it is that there's no soul nutrition for me to enjoy and nothing to look forward to. I'm in my 30s, and I have nothing but contempt for society in y lifetime. Shitty music, movies, and (mostly) shitty stand-up. There's nothing else I need, after realizing all my work is ignored. I don't know how I'm still alive...
So beautiful to see Bill trying to win the audience during his early years. To eventually find an audience worldwide who loved him and, importantly, understood his nuances and messages within his material.
"I am merely a channel for these bits, I am merely a puppet!" - Damn Bill is psychic even in the future, I was just thinking how I could never get enough of unseen shows and content no matter how well I know his bits, he always slips in some stream of consciousness commentary on his own polished material like a jazz musician, each performance is so unique I always feel like its the first time Im hearing his shit, and then he says this minutes later, fucking unreal - Bill Is Alive!!! HICKS!!! LET'S GOOOOoooo!!!!
perfectly blends stream of consciousness and the polished material idk how he does it seems like he just talks and the bits all lead to each other so naturally
By the time he was 30 he had 16 years of experience on stage. He was too good especially with his political commentary. The way to reach people effectively is through comedy/laughter. It really opens the perspective on truth. Imagine what his views on 9/11 wouldve been? I sometimes think he was deliberately taken out. He was right on the cusp of breaking thru in the States. The Uk already was on his level but the US back then was still filled with a ton of conservative views which actually made him more of a beast imo.
@@perpetualmotion357 I always wonder myself, he was very young, he has a public access television interview he did not long before he passed and you can see his indignation for censorship in general and for the establishment, and his physical pain is evident in his face, I know for sure that whatever did happen though, Bill made sure he got his point across and he shared himself with us forever by doing his stand up, A great friend told me in 2000 when I was 18 years old, to listen to Rant in E Minor because I think like this comedian, Bills theories on "Drugs" love laughter and life in general changed my own life, I had never heard of him, I was only 12 when he died and for 22 years I miss him every day along with so many others, I'm always grateful he recorded anything at all -
@@joesaintjames6221 I'm only a few years older than you and discovered him in my early 20's. He is head and shoulders above anyone else on my favorite comedian list. In fact, I don't view him as just a comedian but rather a type of satirist bordering on modern day prophet that was getting his message through using comedy which imo is the most effective means to reach people bar none. It wasn't just the joke telling either. He had the expressions and a vocal soundboard to go with it making him 10x funnier. I've heard people use the expression "red pilled" before and I can't think of that term applying to anyone better than Bill. He was the one soul prancing through the matrix screaming at people to wake up when virtually everybody was still plugged in. Imagine his frustration and it definitely came out. I think that type of insight is something you are born with. He hit the scene during the Reagan/Bush era where the States were plunged back into media mind control catered toward these ridiculous conservative "fundie christian" values. Honestly, with the people he was targeting, I wouldn't put it past any of those guys to orchestrate a hit on him. It didn't help that he was from and always in the heart of Bush country (Texas) taking personal shots publicly at the sitting president who was the former head of the CIA(when Kennedy was murdered). That was a rare form of cancer for someone his age. I've heard people say his sickness was brought on because of his lifestyle. That may have contributed to it but if that were the case I know I and a million other people who would've dropped over in their 30's from partying too much in their 20's lol. I'm not saying I know that's what happened but I'm not going to pretend that such a thing isn't done. He would have been a prime target. I could only imagine what he would've had in store for Bush in the 2000's. He would've just turned 40 and would have been on top by then with his comedy. He would have never sold out either. Someone who can reach others that effectively like Bill could, I just see a lot of motive not letting a guy like that run amok. He was already on to the Waco BS, just imagine what he would've said about 9/11 and all that crap? He would have been up on stage just spilling the truth. Nobody has single handedly opened my mind the way Hicks did and for that I'll always be eternally grateful to him.
Amazing performance, especially considering the not-so enthusiastic audience. I've never seen him ask the audience if they had any questions--twice no less. Audience seemed receptive enough though, and it seemed like Bill really wanted to "bring them along" so to speak. I think this really demonstrates part of his essential nature. Bill Hicks was obviously trying, not just to entertain people, but perhaps primarily, to wake people up to all the things he knew were bullshit--like the gulf war, the war on drugs, the parade of phony evangelicals and politicians, etc. I can tell that Bill had a great deal of love and compassion for humanity.
As to Hicks asking the audience if they had any questions: *I would rather have questions that can't be answered than answers that can't be questioned.* (R Feynman) Hicks intuitively was aware of this, it seems.👽
This was a performance in a small time club before he was big time...was popular but not mainstream popular at this time so his audience reflects this, so does the venue, plus the drug n egg skit is used on one his specials. He was perfecting it here, so was probably one first times he performed this part. Not long after he became bigger, thus bigger venues and more exposure to people, thus bigger audience. I think this is someone's bootleg copy anyway as there only 1 angle and looks like a camcorder recording.
I just watched 5 minutes of Miley Cyrus on JRE. made me cringe and think of the Billy Ray bit., and there's you, 7 minutes later uploading this fantastic shit! bless you my friend!
Bill Hicks is a sage and a prophet. He just happened to be funny because of how seriously ahead of society he was mentally intuitively/psychically. He channeled everyone’s energy effortlessly.
How do you figure that? The laughter was pretty on par with any other special, and considering the density of his jokes it would make sense for there to be less laughter and more silent thinking about his ideas. You don’t know what any audience is thinking even if you’re there.
@@jgray1831 You do if you’re not autistic. Not all of us lack social skills like you do. Hicks hated these shows because they didn’t understand his comedy. Americans didn’t understand his comedy. See some of his UK shows and compare.
Just watching and hearing a different delivery of some Hicks favorites completely made my day. Thanks! I love this channel! Keep the great content coming!
I saw even worse response n L.A., @ da now dfunct, Igbyz Comedy Cabaret. I & anutha host, were da only 2 laffing. ( & blieve u me....... My xtreme laffter, wuz SINcere! ) Hickz, wuz DUH Magic Bullet, @ dis show. HILARIOUS!!!! Da 13 or so peephole, n da audience, didn't think so. SMH
love this channel thanks for some new vids i havent seen before, i thought i saw them all, still love rewatching them . he was so ahead of his time , so funny
I am with you in that thought. A lot of his fans on here seem to think he'd go in on Trump. I don't know.....feel like he'd be equal on Trump and the other side, at least...?
@@Hymsyyy liberals were different when Bill was alive. Nowadays, from what I hear, many liberals are now Trump supporters - because they can see what the alternative has become (Communism). Tim Poole is one example. So, I think you're right. A lot has happened since Bill died.
@@garygreen5670 I have actually just heard him do a bit in this, about kind of 'oh if you want to take guns off people in America you are a communist'. That is an interesting point of contention today. Unfair if we slot Bill from 1990s into political sphere today, like you highlight. He was life support for me at uni. Revelations set specifically. I think he felt like a compass of truth. I don't know if he WAS truth but even today, now, watching him, I just feel like we TRUST him so much in a powerful way. All who pass 'early' inherit a certain indemnity from hard critique eh? I think too much. The experience of knowing nuance is needed in life. Or believing so. His brother said he thinks Bill was 'tapped on the shoulder' - set out to do a certain task, you know? Harder to know what's true today maybe. God bless you mate. From UK
@@Hymsyyy I noted the exact same bit when I listened to it at the weekend. I wonder if he'd have the same opinion today. Somehow, I think he might have revised that opinion, with all that's going on. I've only just started listening to Tim Pool. He's more mainstream than the most of the people I listen to, but he did say recently: "I've never been more conspiratorial in my life than this whole year - because literally nothing makes sense.", which was interesting. Interesting times.
RIP Bill Hicks, has Saved my Life Many times. I dont Laugh out Loud to a Lot i just contently think Hes bloody well Right. Enjoy Many Comedian/Philosophers but Bill is head and Shoulders above ALL
De Profundis for sure.. but he’s also an entertainer, if Maynard has one I think he would too but as I wrote that the Jay Leno Doritos sucking Lucifers cock bit was all I heard in my head haha
lmao these New Kids jokes a ruthless. hahaha "and I hope his moms there when it happens". I love that he feels half the audience draw the line there and then lays into it even more. Bill doing what he does best.
They had to pull Ringo off the ceiling with a rake.. Gets me every time. Brilliant upload.. I think this was right before he was really in his groove, but I kinda enjoy that. One guy espouses what some of us think 30 years later, and well ahead of his time. Comedy legend ...? Probably.. Almost certainly. A fucking wholesome individual with a sense of what being a human is all about..? Absolutely.. It's weird how they always show up in places where work was involved. Appreciation and dedication to their craft.. Not some bribed individual, or some talentshow wannabe. Their aren't many left and when they are gone, the world will be full of greedy, compliant, wanna join the race, fools who think they can actually get ahead. The people who organise the race are the ones who win... Now get in fucking line, cause you ain't winning today.
So many comics were inspired by Bill ,he was more popular here in Britain than the states "the Brits get me" he said, Scotlands' Frankie Boyle says he started stand up after seeing Bill ,I would love to get the Hicks take on current events. Sadly missed.
There have always been guns in England farmers have shotguns posh people have hunting rifles and there are gun shops in the countryside but it's very hard to get a licence and police on the beat don't have guns but there's always been armed response units.
people keep talking about how it's a tough crowd, but they were very responsive I thought. Just let him know when they disagreed with him, but never fully turned against him.
Wow you can hear the kind of boredom and frustration in his voice, like he's done this routine and jokes a thousand times (which no doubt he had) sometimes in this one.
Never noticed how much ron white sounds like bill hicks. I think white even talks sometimes about how much he liked hicks. I think they are both from texas as well. Hicks sometimes sounds exactly like ron white sounds all the time.
