I saw bill Hicks preform in Chicago one time and talked to him afterwards he was really nice and down to earth.I wish he was still here.I will always be a fan of his
Hey now he said that before the internet though, even if companies are trying to fuck with the internet, money cant control everyone, the worlds opened up in really exciting ways
Its always nice to see a comedian in their 'off' mode, without the script and communicating so candidly. When it's a gold-standard legend like Hicks, it feels like a freakin religious experience. Great upload, thanks.
Word! And it's not that they were ahead of their time...i dislike that statement, it's retarded. It's the rest of the people who are late for their time to be the most they can be and the best they can be. Sick system.
i went to middle school with this guy. we hung out, but he just disappeared. a couple years later ran into him across the street from the comedy club there in Houston. told me all about it. fantastic. had been performing since he was 16, we all literally didn't know what had happened to him. jack.
IF you are up to MORE THINKING--watch --BINGE watch--all of the lawyer Daniel J Sheehan videos on RU-vid--Trajectory of Justice--Romero Institute Channel and whatever else you can find--you don't have to agree with all his OPINIONS at all but his eyewitness testimony to so many HUGE events from Watergate, Viet Nam era civil rights cases, KAREN SILKWOOD WOW!!!!!! gotta see those!!!! and Iran Contra and the Desert Storm beginnings GWBush elections/Michael Connell murder tabulator voting fraud WOW. Get some memory foam to lay on, food and drinks and BINGE and be blown away with the history.
Bill Hicks was neither a national hero nor a legend. He was a guy who went to comedy clubs and went on pseudo-intellectual rants about politics and society. Although I agree with some of his points, but they don't make me laugh. Billy was a weak and cowardly misogynist who despised humanity. One of the most overrated comedians in American history.
Thank you for posting this. I spent many teenage hours listening to Rant in E Minor and Arizona Bay and dig seeing a more candid Bill. He definitely made his mark here and helped peel off more layers of the societal illusion/insanity. Great to read these comments and see so much genuine appreciation for him ♡
I've learned that the people who were ahead of their time and had a universal message were extremely connected to spirit. Bill talked about it a lot. My theory is spirit is timeless and universal and when you connect with it, you become timeless and universal. Just a theory...
good theory, there is a theory that reaching the nirvana, or being with the spirit etc is being in touch with a place where there is not time no past or future all times all actions exist now, people in touch with it create universal timeless pieces of art
The world is like a ride in an amusement park, and when you choose to go on it you think it's real because that's how powerful our minds are. The ride goes up and down, around and around, it has thrills and chills, and it's very brightly coloured, and it's very loud, and it's fun for a while. Many people have been on the ride a long time, and they begin to wonder, "Hey, is this real, or is this just a ride?" And other people have remembered, and they come back to us and say, "Hey, don't worry; don't be afraid, ever, because this is just a ride." And we … kill those people. "Shut him up! I've got a lot invested in this ride, shut him up! Look at my furrows of worry, look at my big bank account, and my family. This has to be real." It's just a ride. But we always kill the good guys who try and tell us that, you ever notice that? And let the demons run amok …
I enjoy bill hicks interviews like these. They’re almost as long as a cigarette, and I get to enjoy one with him and eavesdrop on this wonderful conversation.
I never heard of Bill Hicks till long after he had passed away. I really enjoy his comedy. you can tell he was a very intelligent person. some of the funniest people I have met seemed to be very intelligent. it's too bad he died so young.
MOST likely KILLED:--those fast acting cancers were CIA specialty since early 1960 and BILL deeply and frequently wounded evil Bush Senior with truth--a fatal act--RIP Bill Hicks! But DO eat your veggies, don't smoke and exercise--skin like paste won't help you even if you don't have a specific globalist Skull and Bones/Alias Club war criminal after you!
Man this guy is one of the smartest comedians ever man. THe things he says are so well thought out. He was truly one of the best comics ever. LOVE Bill Hicks
I wonder if he'd have known at this point that he only had 6 years to live, that he might have done things differently. The world needs people like Hicks so badly right now.
FCN933 if anything, people know less than they did in the pre-internet era. These days there is loads of information at your fingertips but no reliable filter for it. The ravings of a nutcase get pretty much the same airtime as the considered opinion of a professor, and there is an abundance of (often intentionally) false information. Pre-internet thing were presented in auch more nuanced fashion than a RU-vid video or shitty Facebook meme.
Well his anti religion thing is that he grew up baptist and had questions no one knew the answers too..developed that rhetoric...he takes a lot of drugs he openly credits that to hanging out with people and taking drugs...particulary things that make you lucid...not to mention when hes been doing shwos city to city sincea teenager he probably talks to people three four times a week that can drop gems on him and he retains the information to further his quest... as a musician i can attest to this.. and randomly you may remember some shit yo uwere talking about 2 am in the bar after hours downing shots
I love how candid and down to earth he is. Especially in the 1980's. The humor scene in the 80's was on a whole different level than today. He was way ahead of his time.
WOW! SOOOO Wish I'd seen this clip before today!!! It is GREAT ADVICE for any budding young stand-up talent, young or not so young . hey! There's no age limit on laughter, right? Thanks for sharing. bill Hicks was and IS A LEGEND!!!
So incredibly in tune and comfortable with the person that he was at that point. Smart and had a great understanding of how "things" and the world worked/works -- for someone so young.
Try this experiment. Everything you see going forward, ask yourself if what the person is saying is genuine or is it a facade? Are they passionate, or are they just existing? BH honestly woke me up, not because what he was saying was revolutionary, but because he was fucking *_real_*. Everything you see today is so fking manufactured, we can't even tell reality from fiction anymore, hahaha. I've learned to spot the truth speakers, and once you do that spotting the liars becomes second nature.
+Tyler durden agreed. I was kind of hoping that as entertainment moved online that we might find more "reality". But what we see are people hamming it up for the camera, talking to us like they are our friends. RU-vidrs, for the most part, are just as disingenuous as their television counterparts. The difference though is that they delude themselves into believing they are being real.
Comedy is no longer the last bastion of free speech. I heard a millennial "comic" say recently that if comedy is offensive, it's not comedy, besides comedy doesn't have to be funny to be comedy. WTF !!! Someone pull the trigger please. One of the greats, Bill Hicks. Thanks for posting this.
Thanks so much for this. Bill was obviously extremely poised, intelligent and clear on his mission even in the early days. This gives a great glimpse into those times.
"Michael Smith He decided to go through chemotherapy against his own beliefs and the wishes of his best friends. Too bad CBD oil wasn't known about at that time. They poisoned him.
I have colon cancer, I did chemo too, I had no choice, left with same bad effects--moral don't get cancer--so far I survived--I can't complain, Bill had pancreatic cancer stage 4-- he went fast, 8 months, pancreatic is deadly because it's usually found so late
it amazes me that I never knew about Bill until Tool used some of his dialog and his likeness on a CD in 1998. I was all over Sam Kinison back in 88 up until he died and some how completely missed Bill....I love his comedy. I wish he and Sam were still with us.
Personally, I never found Bill Hicks to be that amusing, and he never seemed to have anything positive to say about America or humanity. To call him a national treasure is ridiculous.
Choice, gratitude and freedom; Hicks always knew the way. We need uncensored artists, Hicks still provides inspiration after all of these years. A great reminder that it's just a ride.
Learned more about the world of stand-up comedy from Bill Hicks in this 7-minute clip than I did watching the 1 hour and 22 minute documentary from 2002 called "Comedian."
Same. I was 16 when Aenima was released. I wish I had been older, so I could've appreciated him, and supported his career, while he was still with us. :'(
I love kind of people like Bill. Just sensible, reasonable, sincere. What a shame he didn't live to be an old comedian too, like George Carlin was, for example. But still, his message *was* (and is) heard, it did (and will) reach many people, and that's the most important thing.
For my money, Hicks was the greatest standup ever. Only George Carlin was in the same arena and lasted twice as long. In his short life, Bill covered it all---brutally and hilariously.
He was my fav comedian 20 yrs ago and still is now - it's not just his timing and turn of phrase and all the rest of the technicalities of a great comedian but what he talked about - it was NOT trivial... Lee Evans - famous uk comedian - has a bit in his act where he pretends to be a balloon being blown up.. I think you see my point.
George Carlin was playing arena's to Hicks nightclubs are you kidding me, not even in the same league as Carlin who covered it all long before Hicks came along.
Yeah he was a big name and very well regarded in the biz in his time. He had already made a huge impact years before he passed away. I remember when he performed a special on Channel 4 in the UK, my friends and I loved and talked about it alot. He was a star and the comedians comedian. It ain't fair that he's gone.
Seal: I think he was a much bigger name in the U.K. than he was in the U.S. My favorite standup I've seen of his was done in London. I know he did the Letterman show quite a bit, but there were many comedians who did late night who weren't super popular. I'm glad I found him but wish I had much sooner.
I thin when he was alive he was seen as being one of the top 5 or 10 comedians of the day...and of course many thought he was number 1. So er he did have a huge impact - you just heard of him late. Your question is a bit like asking the same of Jimi Hendrix - er yeh he was a big deal when he was alive - lol.
My only problem with Bill here, is that he complains about the "journey". He didn't like the travel, the airports, this constant going. Those are the moments you have to relish and live within to fully understand and appreciate life. Those are the moments where you are allowed the time to fully recognize WHAT you have, WHERE you are, and the very fact that you are HERE. Those are the moments that make our lives, and Bill resigns them to the wastebin. He was brilliant, but not in the capacity for open-minded thinking about fruitful opportunities where one typically would not find them.
