He keeps joking that Stroumbo is a psychiatrist, but Stroumbo's ability to gently interrogate his guests is what makes him so good at this. His interviews are never bland.
Love Bill Maher! Been a fan of Bill Maher since I was a freshman in High School and I'm 25 now, just over 10 years! I've seen this interview a few times over the past 2 years and it never gets old!
Just stumbled across George today, I'm so glad I did, he's a terrific interviewer, refreshingly interesting questions, friendly and laid back approach brings out the best in the interviewee
Brilliant free flowing conversation. Add food a few more intellectuals remove the cameras and this is what life could be like if you throw out your TV and start to think critically!
true, lots of Americans think socialism is equal to communism. When they think about socialism they think about Mao Zedong, Lenin, North Korea, ...which is not true at all. You can have a liberal, democratic society with socialism. It's a matter of moderation and common sense.
+machia0705 Absolute conservatism and absolute capitalism isn't though. Mixed market social-capital system that began after the disaster of near unfettered capitalism of the 1800's and early 1900's was replaced in the US by mixed market system. Other countries began mixed market practices at various times. Common sense is to utilize what works, and what works isn't a black and white ideology. But a mix of things based on logical premises. The US is a social country, and has ever gone more social. First by the vote, of statesmen, then increasing so by the vote of all men regardless of property ownership, then universal suffrage including women, public schools, public universities, public streets and road ways, ports, libraries, restrooms, parks, etc. Then right to labor to unionize which wasn't realized until 1935 until then many massacres took place between the so called lawmen of the oligarch and workers known mostly as the coal wars from 1875 to 1935. Then social security with the very name of social in the policy in the 40's. To medicare in the 60's. Then medicaid in the 70's. And ever growing public transit systems from subways, buses, street cars, etc. some privately owned some publicly owned. Utilities, some privately owned always publicly regulated, some still publicly owned. Mixed market structure is what has given most developed countries the defining prosperity to be called developed.
+jmitterii2 You conveniently left out the "Great Depression" of the 1920's -1940's and all the other economic downturns afterwards. Less I forget the US Government with your mixed market/government economic social system has produced what is it now, like almost 19 TRILLION in national debt? Yep! and will keep getting larger and larger and the currency will keep getting further and further inflated. Only reason the US mixed market social system hasn't fully crashed all the way is the US dollar is still the world's most traded currency and we trick/bully other nations in to buying our Government debt. That is coming to a rude close pretty quick since the establishment of the BRICS system of Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa and the dozens of other nations joining the BRICS. The only problem is and will always be the only problem of "Political Corruption".
George, you rock. Soooo good. Glad you are the one taking over Canada's institution......hockey. Despite the conglomerate overlord, you just are awesome. Well done. Stay true.
The rarest things in 2018 are real Rock and Roll songs, and interviewers that succinctly ask a brief question and allow the guest to speak and entertain. Thank you for posting.
Wow. Great interview! Kudos to George and Bill. I'm down South in the states so this is my first time seeing George. He and Bill flow quite well. And what a guy Bill... huh. Smart, edgy with a sharp wit. Thanks for posting!
.. brilliant George ... the best interviewer these days ... Brian Linehan-esque ... gets the best juice from guests, ... well done Bill ... [peace ....
***** eastwood made two movies with an orangutan and now talks to chairs, deniro has been in more shit movies like bullwinkle than good ones at this point, he just finished filming 'dirty grandpa' with zac efron, boy where do we get our tickets
Stoney Lonsome just cause they're better than honey boo boo and did some shit once (deniro did anyway) doesn't mean we should admire them... just because you're famous and old doesn't mean you get to suck ass
+Krista he isn't speaking to even 1% of Americans due to lack of access of the majority of people in this country. If you believe everyone here has HBO, cable, or even a tv, you're sadly mistaken. 1.8 million viewers per week for him doesn't even win his time slot, lead by Gold Rush with 2.6 million. (last available figures from Jan. 2018)
Bill Maher is just interesting, no matter who he is with. He picked up where George Carlin and Andy Rooney left off; very intelligent, very passionate, and very funny. He is a forward-thinker. This was a very candid interview, although I don't think Mr George S. has great interviewing skills at this point (talks too fast, for one thing). Although he did allow Bill Maher to give complete answers...and that's a good thing.
George is far too thoughtful and insightful and not nearly "showbiz" and vapid enough to be a major interviewer. He's too deep, too thoughtful and too intelligent. That's the sad state of the world today.
Isn't that the truth Jwest. He seems to just care way to much. And to much research. I guess that's why he got cancelled. We still love him in Canada though. He's our boyfriend!! Really really good interviewer. We so appreciate him in the Great White North.
Yea, the sad part is that if he were young and just starting out, he would get nowhere if he didn't sell out. There are plenty of other comics that are funny, but not funny and subversive in the way George is.
bill maher is one of the most intelligent people in the media today. maybe this ages mark twain. he can be a little abrasive sometimes but look at some of the idiots he interviews..... i would be a raving maniac
randy rysdaleHe is quick witted most comedians are.He also has a down to earth look at what is going on in the world. He is right about Fox,you got to be out of your mind to believe their nonsense. We have the equivalent here in the U.K.Called SKY.The right wing champion.
we all have our crosses to bare, at least with bill you can get an honest informed opinion. and if you can give him a reasonable argument he will listen, although changing his mind is usually pretty tough lol
+green323turbo Bill really IS superior, because he is very well-read and well-informed. The problem with about 25% of the people in the U.S. is that they are not.
I just heard that bees have been placed on the endangered species list. Bill certainly, hit the nail on the head. Although, he knew then, that our climate is changing and treatment of the earth is deplorable. I love this man, and most everything he says. The truth.
+jahsilent1 I think it's important that those Americans reading get some understanding of the perspective which very many people outside of America have of it. Truth is truth, we don't have to like the source.
This is a great interview. I stand by what Bill Maher says not because I follow him blindly but because what he says I already believe. I'm just not the talented enough to speak in public like he does.
I enjoyed church in school, to me it was like a place for magic. Big church, nice painting as an artist, thinking about it now, i am happy that i saw many churches from the inside(exmoslem here) and I really enjoyed being a part of a larger group that didn't discriminated me as a child. I had a lucky life and I hope today's children don't get disturbed by all the bad media nowadays. Television is unbearable, I stopped watching tv 5 years ago.
This was terrific! I think Bill should run for President, but it would be too stressful for him at this point. Let's see what the 25 year olds can do with this mess the country is in! I have hope for Bernie and so do they. Let's see how that goes!!
That was the most respectful and least compative discussion I've seen Bill have. He wasn't trying to be funny or make a point…..just being honest and genuine. **Bill, you will bring more ppl to your way of thinking like this, rather than trying to insult those who dissagree with your oppinions.**
Mäher's life was affected by growing up in the household of a newsman. This does influence the children; my husband had a long career in radio, newspapers, and television and I can see the influence of this profession on the mentality of our children. They work in other professions but their interest in knowing about the world stems at least partly from the attitude towards truth that prevailed in our household.
Now that's how an interview is done!! We'll done Strombo. Bill tried to take the wind out of your sails about half way through but you held strong and killed it. Now your going to host Hockey. WAAAAA?
I agree with him, when he says, there are a lot of contrarians out there. I wish more people would respond to the discussion rather than just spew hate. It's too easy to spew hate, I'd rather have a discussion. That way if your views hold water, then perhaps I'll change my thinking, rather than go away angry & frustrated.
