When Atlanta made that trade, my first thought was "Oh oh, here they go again!" They had a shot at greatness, but that's Atlanta's problem. They will always be a bottom feeder team. They lack the ability to recognize great talent and they only responded to emotion and hype. EDIT: Congrats to Atlanta! Your team is no longer a bottom feeder. It appears that the Trae pick ended up working out after all. I still think that Luka is a better player, but Trae works well in your system.

As a Hawks fan I was pissed that we passed on him and took Young, but.... I think this was more about taking a huge chance at him becoming a star (one we havent had in the ATL since Nique) and getting people to the games. Now Luka was way safer, but Young has a higher ceiling to me, but also def. bust potential. That being said, way too early to discuss who won and lost this trade. Give both like 3-4 years.

5/30/21 I'm looking at the ATLvNYK score with 7 minutes left (103-78) Trae looks like a monster. No shade to Luka, he's incredible. This take (and the subsequent years of BS complaining) did not age well. ATL was bound to find the right formula of players around Trae and let's face it he had to mature.

No it isn't. You need to wait 3 to for seasons to judge. You need to know what he becomes plus Trae and what they get for the Mavs picks. If Trae become a Steph and that pick becomes a Klay they win the trade. They are in the East and have a easier chance to pop than in the West. Give it time. This can't be predicted for a few years

The euroleague is clearly the second best league in the world and Doncic was the MVP of that league at 19. No one in his draft class is close to as good as him.

Jalen and Luka are actually good comps... Both big guards that might not be quick but they use their size effectively to shield the ball and get by people. Plus, Luka might get stronger and faster with NBA training...

Trading doncic for young was a great business decision that fits great for the future if the team. Atlanta was looking to trade dennis prior to the draft anyway and was looking for suitors all the way back in january. They needed a replacement at the position and young was the most tantalizing and talented player at the position in the draft. Drafting doncic and keeping him would not make sense for a few reasons. Hawks still have a near immovable bazemore contract and prince starting. They are still hoping out for dorsey and bembry to show they belong. If the kept doncic it was have made a couple of the recent picks atlanta has made a waste. On top of this where are the 30 minutes a night going to come from? Prince and bazemore were two of the best players from laast years team anyway so they will demand minutes from the get go. Aside from this the hawks nabbed a future pick feom dallas which has a high chance to convey in 2019. Lastlyatlanta isnt looking to win this year but develop all the talent. Huerter doesnt look ready right now due to his recent handwrist injury and spellman has been solid but isnt starter material yet but could be in the future. Hawks are looking for a pair of top 10 picks next year with the hopes of one of them being top 5. Bill simmons doesnt have an inkling what atlanta is doing because he doesnt follow the teams moves rumors or position in the league from a money standpoint.

Trading Luka Doncic for Trae Young was a good decision as a hawks fan. Everyone forgetting about John Collins and Trae Young. Trae and Doncic are both great players, and this trade was not a mistake.

While I agree yes Luka has produced and probably will be a good NBA player his ceiling is what everyone questions. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he's just a really good role player and I'd be shocked if he's ever an all star. Now trae if he hits his ceiling is a steph curry or dame lillard type but with elite passing. Not to mention that draft pick which should still be in the lotto since Dallas is improved but nowhere near competing for a playoff spot. There's been plenty of great players even superstars taken in the mavs projected draft spot.

The best case is both Luka and Trae Young produce. The only thing I care is whether Luka is good. I wish the Hawks best luck with Trae Young but I don't care whether we "win the trade" or not. Since it's not like we're going to draft Trae Young but we give him up for Doncic. I'm hundred percent sure we're drafting Mo Bamba over Young if the trade didn't happen.
