I was born in Seattle in 1973, where I grew up. Sonics and Blazers fan. Japanese-American. Male. Even though they beat my Sonics team in 1995-96, there were a lot of solid support players on that Bulls team, that I was glad to see win rings: Bill Wennington (Beef Wellington, said in all humor), Steve Kerr (Stevekerr!), Jud Buechler, Randy Brown, Luc Longley (solid), Dickey Simpkins and Jason Caffey.
Still love this guy. He always had that lovableness and all-around-nice-guy that you'd want to have a drink with. Only Bulls center at that era who had a commercial with "Beef Wennington". It sucks that I can't find the video on youTube or the web.
Absolutely in my opinion, the most important question of this interview, with this legend . "Who is that behind you,?"...... cuz honestly guys I was wondering the whole interview what the heck is that thing behind him...and it better not move ... ha ha ha
@ 2:07 the stoic look of the entire Utah fan base in that shot tells u how great MJ was. Everyone of them, like everyone else watching and playing did, knew that MJ was going to get the last shot. The blank looks on their faces tell u they knew the game was over before the play even began..
Bill Wennington is a good guy. He didn't play alot during the championship years in the playoffs but the few times he was in the game he can play. Had a very good midrange shot
When MJ burned the Knicks for 53 in the Garden, the winning basket was an assist from MJ to Wennington on a faked shot and a pass to him for the dunk. Afterwards, BW said "it's the night that Michael Jordan and I combined for 55 points."
just shows his trust despite feeling hot all night long and seemingly unstoppable, mj still recognized what is the appropriate olay and he saw bill free cause patrick went for mj for additoonal defense. very smart man on the court
I could swear that I read somewhere The Bulls training staff wouldn’t let Michael Jordan and Bill Wennington lift weights together, because Jordan was so competitive that the training staff was afraid Jordan would try to out lift Wennington and I guess Wennington was just a beast in the weight room!
DeAndre Alexander Check out my most recent interview with MJ’s Wizards teammate Etan Thomas! Thomas told lots of never-before-heard stories from his time with MJ! 😳🐐
Bill lives in the area where I live and I bumped into him a few years ago in a bank. That was GS winning 73 games year. I didn't recognize him at first because he is bald. but then I heard the teller say "hi bill", then I realized this huge guy in front of me was Wennington. I started a small conversation, he said he still kept up with Scottie and Longley. I told him I have been a fan and I think 96 bulls would beat GS, he agreed and let me take a pic with him. Very nice guy. I miss those days watch Bulls.
I loved how Bulls coaches rotated Luc and Bill, especially in those playoffs. They were always used to their strengths against different teams. Man there is almost no structure in the league anymore. Spurs are the last of a dying breed too
@Dashing_Davey Jordan had Scottie.. Scottie almost took the bulls to the finals by himself. That indicates weak era, Clyde drexler is a slightly better Derozan and he made the finals on a ok team. Barkley and his suns are like the equivalent of Davis when he was on the pels.. Gp/Kemp is like lob city clippers. All those teams in the present couldn't go all the way to finals because there were better team's, but I the 90s they are finalists. Modern ball is better and this co ing from a 31 year old..
I heard that he practiced so hard on his mid range, all for just that one or two moments when you passed the ball to him, and he will make them, that’s professionalism.
Where are all the people saying his teammates hated him? And the ones that mattered, the ones who had the tough skin, had chemistry, humility had respect for each other and the tough love MJ had to give, got it.
one of the best player in the nba i remember this player against nuggets he’s in the basket and it didnt even hit the rim and they loss🤣🤣🤣🤣 what a great player hahahaha
If you remember the Original Transformers cartoon. Starscream and Thundercracker were equal with the exception of the closeness Starscream had to megatron... With that said, Pippen was just as cold as Jordan and if you compare Pippen to LeBron than you'd see that there is no comparison to Jordan cause he can't even compete with Pippen!
I am a BIG fan of basketball and being a fan to a particular player is only secondary. The rules had changed a lot in my opinion. These days PHYSICALITY IS NEVER TOLERATED so that the players have the convenience of doing whatever he wants to make himself appear good and never to get seriously injured. In the late 80's until the early 2000's a PLAYER'S COMPLAINT AGAINST PHYSICALITY IS NEVER TOLERATED (not unless he is injured) so that the players did not have the convenience of making things possible for him to look good or great except for a few. Defense in the past was very tight and very physical. I don't really know if Lebron will be as good as he is today if he had played against the leech-like defense of Rodman, Laimbeer, Oakley, Sally, Mahorn, Russell and many other defense specialists.
Couldn't have done it without the three headed monster- Perdue, Wennington and Longley. I think their main purpose was they were 18 fouls for Phil Jackson to use on the other teams' big 🤔🤔🤔
He looked like a banker who was happy just to play for the UnstoppaBulls lol. Part of the “Three Headed Monster” of serviceable Bulls centers that played in the 90’s...
This is guy you wanted off your bench. The man could do it all. Nice shot, had some good moves to the rim, could post up, could block shots, and moved really well for a 7 footer and could really sky well into his career. You need 5-10 good minutes per game, the Bulls had so many horses that could get in the game. You could have probably played Bill at the 3, 4 or 5 spot.
Would someone PLEASE ask Bill to release his home video footage of his time with the Bulls?!?!?! He always had a camera in his hands! There's gotta be interesting material on there!
