You have to know that her brother is 4 years older than her, and when they made this album, She was 14 to 16 years old, and they made it in his tiny bedroom at home . With no outside help. That in itself really makes it remarkable.

Watching people experience an album that I've loved for so long is kind of weird. Their interpretation is always so different from mine, and I noticed while watching your channel that I never look past the lyrics. Like I hear it and have a surface level understanding of the song, so thanks for making me relive this album.
This was a collection of singles, and it hangs together as well as most albums put out by artists these days. But it is not an album. Billie and Finneas are at their best writing albums, as you’ll soon learn.
Loved your reaction to Billie's EP, but there are music videos to some of these songs that were totally her ideas and concepts--she used to be a dancer until she got injured---but her second love was making videos. She now directs them all herself. As you watch her videos, take note of her outfits in each one and you'll see they are represented in her "Barbie clothes:" in What was I Made For. Very nice reaction - thank you. I'm a 69 yr old fan of Billie. I saw her in concert in St. Paul, MN on March 15, 2022 and Billie was/is awesome. These songs are, as you know - apart from "Ocean Eyes" [written solely by Finneas] from the mind of a 14-15 yr. old. In "Copycat" Billie is annoyed with someone copying her, and in a way "idontwannabeyouanymore" is Billie's response to that - you copy me, and what you don't know is, i can't stand being me - I believe "idontwannabeyouanymore" is a truly great song that will last [ and when you have time, I would suggest listening to Teddy Swims' cover of it - not for a reaction, but for your enjoyment]. "Bellyache" as Billie has said, IS about a teenage psychopath - her friends are dead and so is her boyfriend, and the only parallel to guilt is a "bellyache". Personally, I think "Hostage" is more about obsession that love - and it is perhaps the only music video which I actually believe, supplements the lyrics and song - many of Billie's other music videos are intriguing, and often exellent little movies, but all those songs are complete without a video - but "Hostage" is aided, I feel, by the video. Finneas wrote (solely) "Ocean Eyes", "Six Feet Under", "My Strange Addiction" and "Watch", and well as the monstrous hit "When the Party's Over". "Lovely" is Billie, Finneas and Khalid; "Bored" - for "13 Reasons Why" - was written by Billie and Finneas and Aaron Forbes and Tim Anderson. The CAMP FLOG GNAW show is excellent, as well as the MAHOGANY session of Copycat. 16 yr old Billie's interpretation of Michael Jackson's "BAD" for TRIPLE J "Like A Version" (Feb 8, 2018) is wonderful and her cover of Peggy Lee's "Fever" from July 27, 2022 [Tribute to Frank Sinatra and Peggy Lee at the Hollywood Bowl - SoCalLiveitLive, July 28, 2022] shows Billie's stage presence and versatility.
You are going to love “When we all fall asleep where do we go?” It is such a great album and all the things you liked about this, Billie and Finneas perfected there.
She was only 13-15 y old here, and Finneas 17-19 and the attitude in her voice was everything here 🔥🔥. What a vibe this Ep and just from her voice! So many jazzy vocals parts and I loved this from her it was so unique jazzy/trap! And then the production amazing from her bother. They are so good together! I’m so excited for their future works! ❤️
I’m really hoping you’ll get into her 2 albums, definitely start with her first before her most recent. Also after that you should check out her tiny EP called guitar songs. You can really see how billie matures through her music and it’s an amazing journey to listen through. She wrote “When We All Fall Asleep Where Do We Go” with finneas in a darker time in her life so I think you’d enjoy that darkness you touch on here. Even her most recent album has those elements, along with growing understanding of herself and her life experiences. I think you’d love guitar songs genuinely, they’re gorgeous time pieces about specific moments in her life and the world. Ohhh you are going to love her debut album when we all fall adleep where do we go? The main theme is nightmares, there is a lot of scary and weird production on there. Also as you like to react to live stuff I d recommend idontwannabeyouanymore - colors session as you love the song and this performance is so dope. Billie and Finneas are very versatile. Also you'd probably love NDA as you grew up on NIN. Also really fun song live. I ll see her in two days at a festival, have seen her before though and it was probably the best show I have ever been to. Lmao the bridge of copycat wasn’t her being indecisive but was more of her telling the person what they want hear (basically pulling their legs) then ripping it all off at the end that’s why she said “psych” at the end

This Ep is the most successful Ep of all time mind you 😅 250 weeks on Billboard 200 and it has already sold 13M units worldwide and it’s still doing 4M daily streams! In the future Billie will have for sure every single of her 3 projects with +20M units sold. This is wild. It’s just something different in pop music and we need more artists like this. Something fresh more genres and experimental pop.

Plus…like who does this well/is so authentically themselves on a first album or between the ages of 14-16?

I mean, this is their EP so it’s okay that you jumped one of the songs due to having reacted to it already, but for their albums you need to listen from start to finish without skipping any songs because they’re very much album artists and there are a lot of transitions and a story and order to their songs. She is so good
As for the lower and upper case - I can see the symbolism there as well - the first song is very bold statement and about "feeling big", whereas the second one is about "feeling low and small" etc.

Copycat is simple really. She's calling out someone who's been copying her style and manner. That's it. It's a brutal take down of someone she wants to put back in their place. You're italic, I'm in bold.
My favorite thing about party favor is that in the voicemail, she only says "stay and blah blah blah" and then later in the song song, she says "and you'll hear stay and blah blah blah", so we hear only what he's listening to in the voicemail, but later we get the whole story.
There are a lot of people who will credit Billie only for the singing and credit the writing and production only to her brother. I think it's more comfortable for people to think that because thinking someone that young can be that talented is very uncomfortable for a lot of people. But both Billie and her brother Finneas have said over many interviews since the beginning that he writes some, she writes some but most they write together. Likewise, he produces some, she does others and most are done together. She never stops talking about how great her brother is and how grateful she is that he's been with her and working with her from the beginning. Despite that people will say he doesn't get '"the credit he deserves" (despite her constantly giving credit to him) and i think that's where this myth that he's the real and only talent behind her comes from.

I'm 40 years old, and I still find Billie's (and Finneas's) lyrics relatable - both how I felt at her age and how I still occasionally feel now... They are my favorite new artists from the last decade.
I think Copycat would make more sense if you didn’t miss the “psych” after she said she’d hate to see them go and she’s sorry. Best use of “psych” since 1995. I think you are going to like her next release (her first album) a lot, based on this reaction and what you liked. You’d probably like a lot of her videos too, which she plots out herself.
Great reaction. I think she is an old soul, because she writes music beyond her age. The song copycat makes me think she has seen someone on the scene that is like her, but not as good as her. Then she is telling this person to try and come for, because I know you aren't as good as me. But you can try. So for Bellyache... it's more literal than you took it 😂 Billie said she thought it would be fun to write a song from the perspective of a psychopath. So it's literally about her committing a robbery with her friends, then killing them to take all the money for herself, while trying to outrun the cops.
