The way she explained in an interveiw was that they were following each other on ig without even knowing that they were fans of each other. Then Khalid moved to LA and they decided to meet and hang around. Next they were singing together.
The lyrics are about depression and/or other mental illnesses. The guy on the left was on the right track about them trapped in the box - the box depicts their mind. The cut to the cloud everytime she sings "isn't it lovely" is almost rhetoric in the sense that it clearly isn't.
This was for the series 13 Reasons. It is about depression. Billie has a way of channeling the emotion of a song and singing to compliment it. She will not over sing just because she can. Alright I'm going to educate all of you. Depression is vague. There are a lot of reasons for a person to be depressed. Billie didn't write a generic depression song. There is most likely a specific experience she went through that made her feel trapped, alone and lost. Based on my experience I can tell you that this is how I felt after I lost the people I loved most. I felt trapped. I felt like I couldn't continue to exist without those people but I still had to find a way. I remember thinking I hope these feelings don't last forever. That someday I won't love them anymore and the pain will go away. The feeling of being in love is exhilarating and wonderful. But when they die, your whole sense of self is distorted. You feel lost and alone. Your own life ceases to matter and all you want is to go back in time. I will tell you that despite losing her 30 years ago. Those feelings have not gone away. And some days I try to find a way out. Both the feelings of love and loss have stayed with me. Those wounds will never heal. But time scarred over the wounds and I have been able to go on with my life. Billie uses the "heart of glass and a mind of stone". It's such a perfect way to phrase it. Even if your heart breaks as long as your mind survives, so to will you. I hope someday my son will find the same kind of love I had. I hope everyone is so fortunate. True love is worth any sacrifice.
Whenever you comment things like that, of course many people will think it is fake depression, but I believe you! When I am sad I personally like listening to Billie's music because it is so calming and relaxing. Stay safe! ❤
