Billy is a punk Elvis. Billy Idol’s name was inspired by a schoolteacher’s description of him as “idle.” On his school report card, the teacher wrote “Billy is Idle.” He took that as his name but changed it to “Idol”. So, that’s how William Michael Albert Broad became Billy Idol!

Billy Idol. One of the 80s favorite bad boys. Definitely embedded into pop culture.
@swordmonkey6635

The guitarist, Steve Stevens made Billy Idol famous. His guitar virtuosity in the mid 80s surprised many neo-punk fans. Stevens sounded like nobody else and made a big impact.
@rogerdaly6326
@rogerdaly6326 2 дня назад
He definitely took a different approach than most guitarist of that day. Steve created more sonic landscapes and driving chord based solos rather than playing scales a hundred miles an hour. As we found out later through his work with Vince Neil and his own solo work Steve was perfectly capable of ripping it up with the best of 'em. With Billy ge chose what best served the song not what made him look good to other guitar players.

"Les Yeux sans visage" is a french horror novel about a crazed doctor that basically murders women and takes off their face to graft on to his daughters face, but it only lasts a few days, so he has to keep it up ... I guess it inspired Billy to make a nice little sick ballad about missing his girlfriend ...

Billy Idol was part of the 70's punk scene, when he was the lead singer of the group Generation X, best remembered for their hit "Dancing with myself". In 1981, Idol went solo, starting a very successful career alongside guitarist Steve Stevens. His solo style changed towards hard rock with hints of A.O.R.

Great reaction to this epic masterpiece 80s rock ballad Biss...Billy is best known for being heavy punk rocker (this song was a lot slower than most of his other songs but in a way sets it apart from his usual repertoire...which is why myself and other fans of Billy appreciate this song so much - because it is so different....but to each their own). Some of my other favorite Billy Idol songs are.... Rebel Yell, White Wedding (part 1), Mony Mony (Live), Dancing With Myself, Hot In The City, Don't Need A Gun, To Be A Lover, Catch My Fall, Sweet Sixteen, LA Woman, Speed, World Comin' Down, John Wayne, New Future Weapon, Shock To The System, Cradle Of Love & Flesh For Fantasy.

@@Mike-cp1ft It's sad to see the low quality of current music that children listen to. I listened to Bee Gees, Carpenters, ABBA, Beatles among others. He took the nickname Billy Idol in late 1976, inspired by an episode that occurred in his adolescence: when he was at school, the teacher gave him a homework that he had gotten wrong with the words 'William is idle' written in large letters on it. Note that in English both terms are pronounced the same way with the difference that 'idle' means 'lazy', while 'idol' clearly has a better meaning

It’s a decent song, but as soon as I saw you were doing this as your first reaction, I immediately worried you would not be interested in delving deeper into his catalog. Bisscute - This is the "softer side" of Billy Idol who is just as you said kind of a "bad boy." The Frech lyrics in the background are "Les Yeux sans visage" (eyes without a face). Billy was very prominent in the 80s era during the early days of MTV (when they actually played music videos). I would try "White Wedding," "Rebel Yell" and "Hot in the City" next. Great reaction! His last name is westernized as "eye doll" though your thought of "ee doll" with the French pronunciation is intriguing and probably not wrong. :)

A fun fact about Billy Idol. For the movie T-2 he was the choice for the t 10000 but he got into a terrible motorcycle accident and almost lost his leg. Then Robert Patrick got the role instead because Billy couldn’t move his legs. I love this song. She should react to white wedding, rebel yell, sweet sixteen, cradle of love.

Wow- talk about a blast from the past! Man, I miss the 80's so much, when I hear songs like this... This was always a favorite of mine. As for suggestions, Try FREE: Alright Now. You need to experience some OG Paul Rodgers!

Hi Biss, Great reaction. this song was a big hit, but one of his slower songs. As others suggessted Rebel Yell and White Wedding are 2 of his more well known and iconic works. Also give Dancing with Myself a listen too. thanks for the reaction, take care!
