Big Shot, Vienna, Scenes from an Italian Restaurant, New York State of Mind, River of Dreams, You May Be Right, Movin’ Out. Hard to find a bad Billy Joel song.
Dude, in case you haven’t figured it out yet, you’re listening to one of the greatest musical geniuses of the past 50 years. Any track of his you’ll find is epic. Plenty of others above have recommended his stuff….go for any one of them, you won’t be disappointed!
I was literally just thinking that every time I hear a Billy Joel song, even though I know them all by rote, I am re-amazed. Dude seriously has a gift.
Billy Joel said in an interview once that "Scenes from an Italian Restaurant" is the most favorite song that he ever wrote. I highly recommend checking that out.
You said Billy has been consistent for about 30 years. It's a lot longer than that. His first album was back in the early 1970's! He is still performing today over 50 years later! The man is a legend. ❤
He has so many great songs!! Still rock and roll to me, She's always a woman, The longest time, The river of dreams, Movin out, Only the good die young, You may be right, My life, Vienna! I could go on and on!! Lol
such a great song. that and 'the great suburban showdown' are two from those early albums that nobody's ever heard of but for me they just marked him out so hard as someone special, because of the things he elected to write entire songs about.
Hey man... Billy Joel can rock-and-roll, too! I'll never forget riding with my older cousin, Dave, in his convertible back in 1979 with the top down, the radio blasting... and him singing "You May Be Right" at the top of his lungs, and thinking that was just about the coolest moment I had ever experienced in my 11-year-old life.
Yeah, this song dropped and hit like a hammer. Hard to argue with those who feel that Billy Joel is the greatest singer-songwriter of our lifetimes. Musically powerful, and tells a story that speaks straight to the heart.
Billy is is of our generation's greatest singer/songwriters.Great reaction.Checkout his songs Allentown, and Good Night Saigon.Awesome music from a great entertainer.
Billy Joel and Elton John. Two great songwriters/ singers/performers. They paired up for a special concert tour with the two of them on stage, each sitting at a piano facing the other. So incredible. I wish I had been there!
Waiting for him to discover Elton John. Just today I heard Elton John and Bernie Taupin receivde the Library of congree Gershwin Prize for popular song
@@markvanderstelt8999 Bernie writes the lyrics and then Elton sets them to music. There have been times in the past when they were not even on the same continent so Bernie would at the time, fax a new 'song' to Elton.
It's not my fault liberals suck. I get it, you put all your energy into backing thieve it's hard to admit you're wrong but it only took 3 years to burn down the country, las time it was this bad Jimmy Carter was in the Oval. Don't blame yourself, you're probably a victim of modern public education.@@seanscanlon9067
Did you know that someone who is honest with themself is a black swan event? Less than one person in a million are truly emotionally honest with themself. And it's an independent metric for people who put up fronts and facades, but the chances of someone who is actually honest with others is equally improbable. So combined, it's about a one in a trillion chance of finding someone who is honest both with themself and others, possibly one person in all of future history. Honesty isn't just rare, it's mythological, like a unicorn.
I was high one night, early 80's, 18 year old punk. There was a late night tv show with Billy Joel live in concert. There was nothing else to watch so I lay on the floor and watched that. It was one of the greatest things I had watched on TV. Blew me away.
Billy Joel is an incredible song writer and performer. One of the finest. Scenes From An Italian Restaurant, She’s Got A Way, Still Rockin Roll To Me, Movin Out, Big Shot, Just The Way You Are, Allentown, just too many songs to list. He’s iconic, a total Legend. So glad you’re checking him out!!
This is a great suggestion for you and your wife. Make a great spaghetti dinner. Get a bottle of Red or a bottle of White . It all depends upon your appetite.( You will get the meaning😊) Start with the first album. Listen to them together in chronological order As he sings his stories use your imagination. Make listening to Billy Joels catalog date nights. You will deepen your knowledge of history, friendship and intimacy. I call it The Billy Joel project. My husband and and I did this before he passed from cancer. We were married for 23 years ❤
Fun Fact Black Pegasus....Billy Joel is the 4th best selling solo artist of ALL TIME according to Wiki he's only Behind Michael Jackson,Garth Brooks & Elvis..that is REALLY impressive
Billy has been making music for about 50 years. He's a old school kid from New York. His music paints pictures of moments of time. He was also the first American artist to play a huge concert in Russia.
Not the first by a long shot. Paul Robeson and Marion Anderson in the 1930s. Benny Goodman and his orchestra toured the USSR for two months in 1962. Duke Ellington and his orchestra in 1971 played to huge crowds. I think Billy Joel is fantastic. But American musicians played big concerts in Russia long before rock stars got there.
This song reminds me a lot of Freddie Mercury. Soft, melodic, and sweet, interrupted by some gritty, powerful lines. Love how he changes his tone to take the song through a journey.
The fact you said “I’m late but I’m here now” is quite amazing. If you listen to his latest song (Turn the lights back on) you’ll know exactly why. If and when you do please watch the music video not the lyric video. Cheers, Love the reactions
FYI - Billy Joel is in the top ten best selling artists of all time with Led Zeppelin, Michael Jackson, Pink Floyd, etc. Check it out. Some charts in the top 20. Baby Grand with Ray Charles is an absolute lesson in songwriting. And a true musos song.
The video shows his band singing backup but in reality he did all the vocals himself, ‘cause why not? He’s Billy Joel. He’s the total package. Great recommendation.
Billy Joel is an excellent songwriter/singer. My generation fueled the explosion of so many excellent songs, singers, bands and lyricists ever. We knew good music when we heard it and we supported the record industry. Everyone my age bought all the latest and best records
Oh wow. I completely and utterly forgot all about this incredible song. It brought back a flood of memories. It also remined me how great of a song writer Billy Joel is. Thanks for reacting to this one.
This colossus of a singer songwriter has so so many killer tracks. I highly recommend Billy’s 1976 album 'Turnstiles'...Say Goodbye To Hollywood, Miami 2017, Prelude/Angry Young Man, Summer Highland Falls…simply sublime storytelling.
Billy Joel and Elton John the best piano players/songwriters of the last 50 years (Joel wrote his own lyrics as well). You've got to dive in to Elton's early stuff as well.
"the entertainer" is an upbeat but rather scathing story about trying to make it in the business...as someone who's been there, done that, i'm sure you'll appreciate it.
he released his 1st new pop song in 31 years this year "Turn The Lights Back On" and its awesome and the video is great..it also hit the Billboard hot 100 a couple weeks ago
"The Stranger" is somewhat related to this topic. It is about the "mask" we wear to present to others but also about recognizing the stranger in ourselves. Fire whistling part too!
Billy Joel is hands down one of the greatest songwriters of all time! As a rapper you should really dive into his catalogue just based on his ability to tell a story and paint that picture!!
Only the good die young/ moving out/ you may be right/ goodnight saigon/ Allentown /The stranger/ All about soul/ Matter of trust ..... just to name a few 😂
If you want to be really impressed by his vocal abilities, listen to his duet with Ray Charles, “Baby Grand” - and then listen to a live performance of it where he sings both parts himself.
If Billy had been born MUTE,his songwriting skills would still have made him a legend.... LUCKY FOR THE WORLD he is also one of the greatest singers / musicians as well!!! Others have made great suggestions, so I wont go there.... ANY song in his massive catalog is worth the price of admission!!!
If it's any consolation, he doesn't have a hairline like that anymore either. He is everything you're saying he is though. He's a great songwriter, a great singer, and a great piano player! All his songs demonstrate what a great songwriter he is. He has a song called For the Longest Time, which is an acapella song with multiple part harmony in which he sings every part in the studio version, which demonstrates what a great singer he is, and he composed a ragtime song called Root Beer Rag, which is just an old ragtime, piano instrumental, which shows what a great piano player he is. You're gonna love New York State of Mind. There's a video that all the reactors use of Billy Joel and his band performing it live in a club, which is the coolest thing you've ever seen. He gets to showcase all of his abilities in that one. His saxophone player is incredible in that video too!
Check out Billy Joel - Pressure - Moving Out - My Life - Only the Good Die Young - Just the way you are.......... please check out these bangers!! Starting with Pressure in order
When my bf would argue with me I’d walk away and play this song on repeat. It made him crazy. He then dedicated She’s Always A Woman at me. Billy Joel played a huge part in our early relationship. We just used music at each other
He went nearly 30 years without writing any music. His new release Turn the Lights Back On is just one more any generation song. Would love to hear what that song says to you. From a long time fan to a new fan, enjoy the journey. Billy Joel, storyteller, song writer, piano player, entertainer, human being.
So much more! For the perfect song for NYC, "New York State of Mind" is a must-react, "Big Shot" is a fantastic diss song, "Goodnight Saigon" is a tear jerker, and rounding back to NYC, (Bronx and Brooklyn raised) Miami 2017 (Seen the lights go out on Broadway) hits hard; you'll see why if you react to it ❤
I love the people who made music in my generation. You couldn't pigeon hold their creativity. They weren't stuck singing one thing or singing in one particular way. They were able to vocally move in different directions and still give us good music.😊
Billy Joel also played like Madison Square Garden well over 100 shows and I want to say that they were like every weekend or something. I can’t remember what record they broke and then he also had a huge concert that was on DVD called last play at Shea Stadium before they tore it down, I saw him on the piano to piano tour where he played opposite Elton John and they played each other stuff they would just switch back-and-forth they could easily play what the other had written, and they played for four hours!
Hey BP! There’s lots of Billy Joel songs that I think would get you, but if there’s one I would suggest, it’s The Entertainer. I guarantee you’ll relate to it!
"Pressure" book ends "We Didn't Start the Fire." As far as instance tonality. "Just the Way You Are" for good ballad writing there. too. "For The Longest Time" for more of the "Uptown Girl" in flavor.
NY State Of Mind, The Longest Time, Just the Way You Are, Downeaster Alexa, Anthony's Song (Movin Out), Only The good Die Young, The Stranger, You May Be Right, Still Rock & Roll To Me, Always A Woman, Scenes From An Italian Restaurant, She's Got A Way, Allentown... the rabbit hole is endless. Goated.
with this song fresh in your mind, you need to react to QUARANTINE by Home Free! i can't go into details, but you'll hear the connection! I'm going now to become a Member! lots of love
