Seriously, if you stick through the guitar solo in this live ACL performance, he opens a portal with his guitar and gestures and then he lets us see what’s inside. And it is Glory.
Indeed, but I think/do know what he's saying in this song.. I brought me to tears when I first heard it last year .. I literally can't stand to face the spring AGAIN this year . Its lied the past two, it's been 2 Mays in a row I've heard it and know ⌛ is short.. 🌪️🌪️🌪️👂😳🔥33 🔥🔥🔥Chaff 🔥🔥🔥33
If you “stick through the guitar solo” ? Brother, come on. He played all the notes in 11 mins. At one point I think he played the secret chord. The portal was open from the first word out of this Apostol’s mouth. 😉
There are very few artists that, when I listen - and I mean ... listen.. not hear ... their work - it brings a single tear to my eye. Then there are the ones that make me want to stop whatever I'm doing and just take a long breath and listen even harder. Here's to Billy and that amazing band, they're all good. Cheers.
A once in a generation talent. I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone that has the ability to play guitar like this, sing as well as he does and write such great songs. Truly a unicorn.
@@CorneiliusLibowitz I have. I have seen them perform together before. While Molly is a great guitarist she don't really compare to Billy in my opinion.
greatest all time acoustic guitar performance of all time in my opinion, and I've listened to a lot of them in my 73 years and still kickin' lifetime. The precision and delicacy is sublime, unparalleled. Truly a gift from beyond.
@@TheMfmccarthyI have to argue Billy’s performance of away from the mire is so much more intricate and technical with his playing style. Paul Brady’s performance was good but just much more subtle to me than this performance.
He's also been on a wild run of sit-ins the last few years. Anybody just getting into him should check out Meet Me at the Creek with Trey Anastasio Band (on the TAB YT channel). It's an absolute mammoth performance. But, also, search for Billy Strings featuring or whoever ft. Billy Strings, and you'll find a ton of live performances he's done with other musicians who are almost all legends. Besides his own stuff, those collaborations have cemented him as a legend in his own time, to me.
Was at home having drinks with my dog and came across this on pbs. My jaw hit the floor over this Talent. My god ty for opening my eyes to some blue grass music. Just amazing
The video doesn't show it, but in the livestream they got an extended ovation from the crowd after this song. Saw em two nights in a row the other day and the same thing happened in the crowd each night. A moment after a song where the band was forced to just pause and acknowledge the crowd's overwhelming appreciation of what they had just witnessed.
Seriously, if you stick through the guitar solo in this live ACL performance, he opens a portal with his guitar and gestures and then he lets us see what’s inside. And it is Glory.
First time I saw him was at a small club, he was digging deep into a solo with his eyes closed and as he reached the release he opened up his eyes like he just emerged from water and sent this wave outward into the crowd, everyone let out an audible "WOAH" it was amazing. He was about 4 feet infront of me.
@@Bluelightcheaphotel there are many guitarists that are better, but most don't have that mojo. And most will tell you that there's no way to make money playing music. Many are so good that they're boring.
The Austin City Limits stage has not seen talent this good since Stevie Ray Vaughan! Incredible talent this young man is. He really seems to have his priorities straight. He adores his fans as much as they do him. I can't wait for the opportunity to see him and the boys live!
And his sense of melody along with his talent is elite. Someone like Jerry Garcia is the only comparison I can think of. It’s the talent with the ability to create music that is unique and memorable.
His voice is AMAZING! You know how people are drawn to different parts of band naturally? I always here voice and lyrics first ...this dudes voice transcends!
In the 10:40 area, billy makes a little run, looks right at the end as Jarrod continues the run, then Failing finishes it! Billy Cant help but smile. So fucking cool. This is a masterpiece!
How could you possibly concern yourself with something as meaningless as the number of dislikes in the presence of this musical genius? Ignore that crap and focus on what matters, and be thankful that you got to exist at the same time that Billy Strings is making music.
I mean credit due to Robert Hunter, who wrote most of Jerry and the Dead's lyrics. But yeah, Billy is absolutely on that same level, he even had the honor of putting Hunter's lyrics to song with "Thunder". Billy, and the band as a whole, are 100% a gem in this generations musical landscape.
It has not even been 24 hours since I first heard this song & I can't stop crying & I don't even pay attention to what he's saying. I am a complete mess when the part about laughing, that chord progression is the most moving piece of music i have ever heard! Thank you so much for this song I can't believe how moved I am right now.
I’ve travelled the globe for music over the last 15 years. It averages out to just over 1 show a month for the past 15 years. All sorts of genres and venues. I saw Billy for the first time in July and I was blown away. The way he commands the crowd is like nothing I have seen before. He played Away from the Mire as the 3rd song of the night and my life changed in the moment. Cant listen without weeping. Blessed to be the same age as Billy, hoping we both have many many great years left on this earth
Wow. For about ten years I did nothing but listen to Bill Monroe, Stanley Brothers, Doc Watson etc. I went deep, too deep probably, but it gave me the ear to know the difference between someone living inside the wonderful land of bluegrass and someone just visiting. Billy not only lives there but has built himself a mansion. Just stunning. Can't wait to see him live.
Billy keeps stretching the limits of an acoustic flat top guitar. Combining folk/Bluegrass tossing in a bit of Latin jazz mystic in vein of Gabor Szabo’ a touch of the Grisman’ Dog and just about any thing He can conjure up.
Billy never made me think of Gabor, but now that you mention it, I can see it. They both played dreadnoughts with magnetic pickups too. Gabor was the first person I saw playing a Gibson J-160E, though by the early sixties he'd switched to a Martin with a DeArmond sound hole pickup. That's what he was playing when I saw him in Toronto with Chico Hamilton. I'm curious about Billy's guitar in this video.
430am driving to work with this absolutely cranked and life is good. If Billy's spaceship gets close enough for you to jump on....I strongly suggest taking that ride. It improves your life
Saw billy last summer at an outdoor venue in Indianapolis. My wife wanted to go, i didnt know much about billy strings. I came away from that concert mezmorized by how good it was.
Ping me, please, so I know you are still OK. I had a very bad period a few decades ago, worked through it, and life has been real good the last decade or so. Don't take a permanent "solution" to a temporary problem. Try. I did. Damned, if it didn't work beyond what I ever expected possible.🍻👍
I'm an ole UK rock hick aged 57 and this fella Billy Strings has got my Ole feet tapping. Genius finger pickin licking performer. He's better live than recorded, I've got him down as genius 😀🙃😄😁💙 Good on yer Billy !
You watch it a thousand times and get the same chills every single time. He looks deep inside to bring out so much emotion and then has the talent to lay it out at our feet and share his raptures and pain with us. When you listen, you fall into this song and it feels like it's coming from everywhere all at once. Incredible. Thank you young man.
The fantastic Billy Strings. Gifted singer/songwriter/guitarist/bandleader/performer. Billy and his bandmates are riding a high wave of sonic creativity for all of us. Reaching far back and looking way forward together is Billy's expansive view of our world and life. Dylan, Prine and now Billy Strings weave songs that carry us to a place we sorely miss and long to go. This is beautiful and rare. Breath it in deep. We are very lucky that Billy Strings showed up now. A time to think deeply, remember the past, face the future and gut check your feelings when you feel out of synch. Thanks so much Billy. May your vision and your band long live and roar in this free country. I know I am down with all of it.
I have watched probably hundreds of live versions of this song, and every time he takes off in this solo, I have to drop everything I'm doing and just watch. It's unbelievable.
Wow, amazing performance! I'm not normally the biggest bluegrass fan, but when this came on PBS the other night I was utterly transfixed for the entire 11 minutes. I think the best metric for a song's quality is how easily it can transport you to another place. This tune certainly does that for me.
This is true, but it's only one of their songs that do this.... I strongly suggest you delve more into their music.....many songs take you far away, then bring you back...and then some.
Every time I have seen them, he and his band are better then the last time. His music moves me in a way that hasn't happened in a long time, and it's beautiful!
I've been on am absolute Bluegrass tear since I found/re-discovered Billy, Molly, Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas and all the rest. So great to see this particularly American genre breathe new life!
Watching the meteoric rise of Billy Strings makes one wonder if a deal was struck at a remote crossroads. Seemingly from nowhere, his vocals seem to be a reincarnation of the best bluegrass singers of generations gone by, and his flat-top talent is second to none. How fortunate we are to enjoy Billy and his excellent band.
If you look into his backstory, he already went through a type of hell growing up, and I'd like ot believe some type of goodness and mercy and heart and soul and guts pulled him through to let his light shine for all of us to witness and be grateful for
Just look at the tats, the images and his unquenchable addiction to narcotics. I'd say you're dead on. The works of demons channeling into HUMANS is often 'fascinating' and music, due to it's ability to invoke emotional reactions is one of satan's favorite tools, going all the way back to the temptation of the Hebrews in the dessert. Most of the music artists are serving the darkness and they don't even try to HIDE it and still people doubt.
I am 69 years old. Long time fan of great players like Doc Watson, Duane Allman, Leo Kottke and any others. Young Billy has a gift no doubt . What I really like is that rather than imitate he has chosen to create. This is some beautiful stuff....
An absolute worldwide treasure. Billy brings it every. Single. Time🤗. The musicians he chooses to play with are all world class musicians, and I find myself just closing my eyes and escaping in that incredible picking❤️❤️❤️. Thank you guys👏👏👏!!!
This is a transcendental experience! Billy's solo in this song is the most incredible single piece of music I've ever heard. Brings me to tears every time I listen.
Just when I was about to give up hope that new music would never surpass the great music of past and it's great musicians, billy comes along and saves us old guys and restores our faith and hope.
Best new artist of this millennium at least. Just brilliant. The whole band is brilliant but Billy is on a whole other level. I think he's the greatest guitarist I've ever heard, and I listen to a LOT of guitarists.
Can’t believe I had the opportunity to see/listen and even converse with Billy while he was growing up in Traverse City area 👏🏽. I could see he was a fantastic musician back then but he is now at the pinnacle. All the comments about him are truly accurate and deserving. I’m thinking his parents are mighty proud…his father is an excellent blue grass musician himself 👍🤜🏼
Can it get any better? Probably not. The entire band is so damn good. The Billy Strings band should be in the books as one of the all time greats. Thanks ACL!
There are SO MANY similarities between the two! Different genres but equally talented. I never thought anyone could compare to Stevie, but Billy is close! Love this guy.
What a tune. I've listened to it many o' times since the album came out, possibly before. Forever a fan. They deserve everything good that comes out of their music career. Now they just need to get into Canada and tour. Thank you Billy Strings & Co. The music means a lot to me, especially this tune.
This Band is the Best band in a long time woke up last night in nyc and discover Billy strings Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I come from a family of musicians I can hardly wait to share this he is ripping on my Bose speaker Now !!! Unbelievable!!!! A new Fan!!!!!! Thank you thank you GOD For waking Me Up!!!!!!!!
What an amazing musician. Truly a performer that can help pull many new people into bluegrass and its related genres. I can't imagine how Billy will be performing ten years from now. It's a true treat to see young folks get the recognition they deserve without having to jump through all the hoops of the music industry that usually are required to get visibility.
What an amazing performance. I'm here listening because I was supposed to be seeing him LIVE tonight but he had to cancel due to illnesses in the band. :(
