I am curious about the idea that psi powers don't crit. When you melee or shoot, white damage numbers are regular hits, with yellow and red thrown in the mix. When shooting sparkball, the damage numbers are all yellow. Could this not mean that every sparkball hit is a crit?
I've been playing Psi freak and have found the Wired weapon attribute to effectively compliment that play style but I'm uncertain if dual wielding with both wired attributes stack
I see the first build posted here is for the weakest class. That's good because it is the easiest class to build wrong. Most channels will just make a video about the most OP class right away. Good on you Fextra.
Well this build highlighting the amount of shortfall in Psi Freak perks really put me off playing a full caster, guess I'll just be a Deadeye or something.
i was really looking forward to playing a psi freak, but if they are so weak then i might go another build. Edit: NVM , slow start but equals out in the end.
What about Mages in Dragon Age Origins? Once you get Arcane Warrior Specialization, your pretty much a hybrid Warrior/Mage who can heal the entire party, dish out so much damage with either your spells or melee (with a sustain skill from the specialization), tank like no tomorrow because you can wear heavy armor and can go with another Specialization to either heal more (Spirt Healer) or sacrifice your own life to control a single enemy to work for you or deal AoE spirit damage and lock them in place for a stronger AoE spell (Blood Mage) So yea, in the beginning your weak but ultimately you can build your Mage Warden to be a one man army
There are some exceptions, but sadly in this game psi and bio powers are really just fluff. Fun powers to use in between your melee and ranged... and ranged is just way too cheap with how the only thing that matters is the quality of the gun, put all your points into charisma for all it matters.
Mages are only as powerful as the writer makes them. In dnd mages are basically gods in training, growing stronger as they grow older unless they die first, though a novice mage will naturally always be rather pitiful due to a lack of defense. That being said there's a ton of videogames where mages are overpowered and really do the name justice, there's just also a lot of games that nerf or underpower it either for balancing purposes or lack of interest by the devs. To name a few: dragon's dogma, two worlds II, dark souls, morrowind, portal knights, most dragon age games, etc...
By the way, the mucus Bubble can be used as an impenetrable shield while you use ki spark or any other ability making you fully capable of taking on most things including world eaters with relative ease.
Psi-freak felt crazy strong for me later in the game. Brain-drain might be one of the most insane perks I've used so far. Though you can really feel the linear warrior quadratic mage syndrome in this class. It's also a real shame that you don't encounter any psi-freaks enemies in the game. Also, why do I have to go light side to roleplay as tiny fluffy Palpatine?
Nice, this has fully convinced me Deadeye will be the class I'll go with lol. I was hoping for a psi freak build I could make but all of the videos I watched leading up to this, didn't have a lot of info for me. I guess I now know why.
We just got the game free on PS+ so was looking around on how to go about distributing points because some RPGs will really punish you unexpectedly for min-maxing. But it looks like pure Intellect is fairly safe here since it impacts some important non-combat stuff as well like energy for swimming and # of attempts at puzzles (I hate how useless the bio powers seem to be except the charm) I realize this video is a year old but spells can indeed crit now, but I still wouldn't put points into luck for a caster because INT doesn't just affect raw damage but overall DPS due to Ki Regen. If anything I'd probably look at agility as a secondary stat to help stay mobile and avoid damage (and just get around quicker in general) since your vitality will be so low anyway that boosting it would be pointless
Thanks for the video. It is very informative. I like casters. My goal is to disrupt the enemy with abilities, then pick them off with guns and keeps weapons.
No matter what main route you go, whether it be ranged, melee, or spells; you should still always incorporate all of them into your combat as they will all supplement and compensate for the others during combat using them in tandem or cohesion. Of course don't spread your stat points and other points across the board. You should still focus on one central build but you would be a fool not to utilize the other forms of combat and should invest a few points in a couple of perks and invest in at least 1 or 2 weapons in melee and ranged respectively for combos and wung-fu.
I hope they release a patch that adds a significantly higher difficulty level and more enemy ai variants. Otherwise, what's the use of a "best X build" when, as you said in the review, you just want fights to be over and spam shooting with a gun works best for that. Reminds me of Kingdoms of Amalur with chakrams. If they do, perhaps I'll take another look at this game
While I do agree that build creation shines brightest when there's challenging content to test it against, it can still be satisfying even if the game is easy. It's like a virtual game of lego where you take a good look at all the pieces you have and try to figure out how you can put them together in a nice way. Plus adding new difficulty levels is not very complicated, especially in a game with a NG+ system, so I'd say there's a decent chance the developers may do it if it's a common request from players (which it seems to be).
Love your videos. Really wish BioM was "better" reviewed.. Was excited for it initially, but after Outriders/Anthem i'm pretty hesitant. Should I jump into any games you're covering I'll be sure to watch more of your content. Very well done. Great pace, informative and calming!
Just download a "Trial" of it too see if you like it or not. I saw the mixed reviews for it on steam, so I was a little hesitant as well. But I ended up just asking my FIT friend, who is a GIRL, if she could just REPACK and send me her hard drive, so I could try it out. But I'm probably going to purchase it for myself when it goes on sale, because I personally love the game.
@@OnTheArchipelago 100%, If this was a $40 game at launch, there would be less negative reviews. The main issue is, that it has bugs in it. When you launch a game with a Tripple A price tag, people are gonna be pissed if it's anything less than perfect. Or Bethesda level glitches, where the games playable, but there's terrain glitches and stuff. $40 this game would be an instant reccomend.
This game is so, so so much fun! please inform the developers MANY people love their work and see the beautiful craftmanship that is incredibly evident within this game. 10/10. Love it! In fact, I can't wait to jump back in; I have forced myself away from it to show support in the face of the hastely over-critical and inaccurate RU-vidr view(s). Bravo Experiment 101 ^_^
U wouldn’t call it a 10/10 it’s being sold as a AAA game so I judge it along with other AAA games but none the less I love this game and can say I’ve been addicted even with the bugs I encounter I just keep playing I’m over 70 hours in now and I still can’t stop myself from going back
@@RecklessSnipezz7 why? "AAA" games come out more broken and half assed than this game could ever be. they did a damn good job, they earned the $60 price tag
I'm around lvl 22 with my psy freak and endet up with the exact same build as shown here. It's sadly somewhat limited in variation, as other skills won't really cut it. I do enjoy playing this stile a lot, but it's not for everyone. Once you have your 3 - 4 core skills together, all you literally do is: run in a circle around your enemys, while auto casting the purple homing missiles. Once you deplete your energy, you shoot your gun until your energy is full again - and that's it. It's super simple to play, I play on hard, and with the health regen, you won't really ever run into any trouble - at all. Of course - this can get kinda boring after a while.
Dude how much is your luck? Im also doing psi freak but the problem is not getting good loots especially armour pieces. Fip with max intellect is ugly so i need to cover it with a good helmet.
I played the game until the end but wanted to play something totally different so I went with this guy and holy crap dude I wish I had gone with it sooner. When my spells run out I can shoot my gun at people and doing fighting with spark gloves looks cool as hell too.
Blink is extremely useful when fighting bigger enemy’s because you can use it to get out when the grab you I tested this multiple times and it works consistently
Lol, I was thinking what about the patch. And looked at the date 😂 . Psi- freak is nasty good now. Very detailed vid, nice job to you an your team. Just subbed!
@@TheNamesRJ perhaps not but videos like these give much needed information or advice like what you should or shouldn't do and what's good and isn't... I just completed my first play through of Biomutant as a scoundrel who duel wielded light weapons and used a shot gun that capped somewhere between 700-1003 damage with 50 rad damage... and didn't use powers since I wasn't sure how too use them effectively with that class so I finished the game and started a new character not new game+ and came to this video...
Best way to do packs is the bio orb thing, roll around and pick up all small enemies then use the ki spark channel spell. You can't get hit at all and it kills everything very easily. Best combo you can do
Post update- they fixed the casting spells not getting critical hits, that skill works as intended now and it totallyyyy breaks the class and makes it become number 1!!
The freeze spell isn't just about damage, even though 2 of them usually heals my whole health bar instantly from damage. Enemies slide around on the ice, and while very comical, the main benefit of this is that they can't attack you while sliding. And you are WAY less likely to slide on your own ice. It combos well with rads. You can use levitate with rads also but enemies will be able to shoot you still. Also freeze puts out the burning status. It puts it out on enemies so surely it's the same for us; it better be. Edit: Not to mention damage type makes a difference in this game, alot of times it's a big difference, similar to how Borderlands works. Some of the enemies really take a wallop to that freeze spell so it's nice to have for that occasion in addition to the aoe damage for healing from the psi-freak ability.
I just got this game, 6 hours in level 13 and I went with a Similar build. Its OP. No higher level mob has even come close to killing me. Plus I found sound high level gear early on and 99% of everything I've found is junk. Plus I havent even done any crafting or upgrading yet. Might change the difficulty to Hard
Was really let down by this game when it first dropped. Trying to get back into it but so lost now. Good to see my favorite class was tacked on and not fleshed out properly. Gonna try to push through this one.
I think psi freaks need a piece of equipment like spell catalysts to keep up with melee and range without the need to pump intellect every level up. Granted these are mind powers, but they could have implemented amulets and talismans or some sort of focus.
I’m doing just fine with my psi freak. I boosted luck for better loot drops and then intelligence. The end result is my guns do tons of damage, my melee does tons of damage. My gear gives me 30-40% crit chance to M/R and my gear is aimed at Ki and Energy Regen. So spam spam spam shoot shoot. Build up WungFu, spam spam repeat, mobs die.
I'm still watching so you might cover it. But I'm hoping psi freak will give me mobility with the damage coming from hybrid sources. Looks fun so far. Dual wield Ninja is appealing though, especially given the models.
Intellect is tied to Ki Energy. Isn't that useful for every class? I looks to function like stamina would in other games, where you are handicapped when it's empty. Wouldn't Ki energy be useful in melee and ranged as well?
No, because you don't consume it quickly enough. Dodge has a low cost and unless you spam Ki consuming moves without break you'll naturally recover it.
you need to use skills as sliding and rolling, slashing and then shooting.it will do all sorts if combos and crit hits. the crit boost follows of if your other move and attack style
Still going Psi-Freak, I was planning on going all out on intellect anyways and knowing that this class is the super tank, I have to problems with being a big brain racoon boy.
I like the game it just lacks in important places sort of like a boiled egg missing salt or sushi with no soy sauce. If they went back added some new enemy types and more quest Variety it would be a must play for most RPG fans
Yoo thanks my dude i love the psifreak but i was like i want in between but not ruin the character cause i want to deal damage with my powers so basically keep pumping intellect and just by perks that benefit help my guns or sword
It really feels like Psi-Freak was tacked on at the end. Bugged, almost zero support for it as far as perks and gear goes. It's a nice idea, but definitely needs buffing.
One thing I noticed, which to me seems like a bug, is that when you get the perk that returns life on power damage Skyspark does not actually return life.
You don't HAVE to pick it, if appearance means more to you then pick another. Also by and large your appearance can be changed after tutorial, still kind of locked into the base of the breed but the ability to customize is pretty open.
Here's my build Fip Psi Freak Every single point into Intellect Rad wisps Ki blast Sprint around activate rad wisps and occasionally dodge and reactivate rad wisps once you're done dodging With my intellect over 200 I have about 500 energy with armor figured in and my energy regenerates extremely quicky *PRO TIP* charged energy ball causes knock back You can sprint while using rad wisps and energy ball You can use rad wisps and ki blast at the same time and cancel both with a dodge at the same time Freeze creates an area around you where most enemies will slide harmlessly around you and can freeze even large enemies momentarily and with the perk that heals you it can save your biscuits, though sometimes enemies will ignore it, but if your moving on ice and you cast an ability that would normally stop you in your tracks, you'll continue to slide in the direction you were moving instead of stopping
If you’re doing biomutant builds could we see a proper bare handed martial artist build instead of the more standard big weapon melee builds ive seen in most videos? It’s what I want to play when I get the game
Psi skills as far as i know have a 0 crit rate so getting mind melt is the only way to get crit rate on psi skills and its only 10% if it works as the description says so every psi skill should crit at least 1 out of 10 casts
I still want to know how much race actually impacts your stats. Is it just initial stats, and as time goes on, it becomes negligible? Or does it actually make a really big impact, essentially forcing you into a race that fits your class?
@@KnobodyYT Lol I agree. I was set on psi freak build, when I made my character and saw the goofy race I'm like, nooope so I just went with my favorite looking race while still going for a psi freak
It's an open concept from skills and combat. U don't need to pick the best race for it as any race will do with only a slight knock to effectiveness ur not likely to notice unless ur min/maxing
@@Fextralife yeah its bonkers. i have a hard enough time doing my normal 9-5 and finding time to play anything. I will definitely be keeping my eye on the channel as you have piqued my interest with the mystery game you mentioned. Unrelated, i have been playing demons souls on the ps5 and your videos and wiki have been absolutely invaluable. just wanted to let you know that :)
Seems to me a good challenge build would be a psi freak/ hybrid class set up on hard mode. Maybe that would satisfy those who need a challenge. Or maybe go commando hybrid. But the games natural progression would kinda nullify that, unless you keep yourself weak. I can't even remember the last open world game i played that was actually hard or challenging for that matter. Most of them aren't. Don't know if I'd count dark souls as a open world game. 🤔. Even then..those games aren't really hard to me. 🤔🤔🤔🤷♂️.
Mmm, that's fair, but they do have a difficult option, like ghosts of tshushima is great for exploration and combat, but if you want hard or extreme it's there, if there was a hard mode on this game I'd get it, its put me off that everyone says its easy
Okay serious question. When I started playing my Freak and got him to my first level up (where you can only choose wungfu before a perk) it is basically saying that the "melee" weapon you start with is unarmed. So wouldn't the unarmed perks outperform a regular melee hybrid if you kept your spark fists upgraded as much as you can?
i dont know why but having max intellect apparently affects how hard the puzzles are. im not sure if its a bug or a game system despite how much moves you have. I lost health due to the controls of the puzzles being altered due to the stat build
Ya reviews are awful. Some ppl have chirped this for being repetitive then I see reviews for assasins creed games and they praise those. Interest is subjective but the game is definitely more fun then most aaa titles I've played this year.
Anyone tested yet to see if June 1st patch actually fixed the Magic Crit bug for sure? I'm trying to test it with a new character but can't really spam magic yet (only lvl 2). So I saved a level up just before the Wonky Mump, and with a save game tried fighting it using the starter pistol & spark ball several times, never got magic to crit but pistol did once or twice per magazine. Tried this with and without Mind Melt, and putting the 1 level up into Luck to raise crit to 9%. Guess the patch needs a patch. Sucks they also just nerfed my backup class/plan.
Am I losing my mind? I've been under the impression that mind melt wasn't intended for spell crit, but power damage ability crit. Regardless, late game psi freak is super OP. I've just been sinking everything into intellect, my intellect is at 400. And the only time I'm not casting is when I'm using power attacks to refill Ki energy. I hardly ever use the Super Wung Fu too.
I just played my first playthrough of this game and did on extreme. Just piled luck with dual wield pistols. Easy. Shame no achievement for beating on difficulties.
Can we build a melee focused (so points for melee damage) with some kind of damaging aura (or continuous spell) to restore health on this class? This would make a very tanky melee class
Should I still start with psy freak and pump intelligence if I wanted to play a melee hybrid build with melee as the primary damage dealer? I wasnt' going to try going 50/50. Mostly 70/30, with spells more as support abilities for mobility, buffs etc, with a few nukes here and there
I put 7 points into luck thinking I'll get high tier loot not knowing crafting is the way to get good guns. Been playing on Hard Mode and struggling with my dps since I started
sounds like they need to rework the psifreak SO disappointing on how many games mess up magic so few skills many dont do much damage and the other two classes out perform its the one thing you dont want to happen in any game. Looks like we need to some how get a hold of the developers and get them to get hot on some added gear skills and fixes to make magic better.
picked psi freak and promptly forgot about int and was going hybrid with melee and ranged and was confused why my spells weren't doing the damage my guns and swords were doing. I'm about 20 hours in, level 26 and 95 int, should i just restart/make a different character? or should i keep going and fully invest in int from now on to boost the spell damage?
Depends on how you want to play. If you're enjoying your playstyle then just carry on. But if you want to do meaningful damage with Spells then you may want to restart.
I guess I'm the only one experiencing this bug. I got Brain Drain and Ki Spark but I'm not leeching life from enemies using powers. Not sure whats wrong.
I’d like use the Psi-freak too, but that little character is really ugly, if I select another one it’s really so bad for the gameplay or I can still enjoy the game?
@@ryanladd4200 yeah I knew that then. But can I ask u something if you can help? How come every loot I pick the result it’s always something with lower power than mine??? The line of health energy Ki it’s always red or shorter than my actual one. I mean, I’m using almost the same clothes since I started the game.
