Last time, this squirrel successfully made a big jump from the tip of a tree branch a little far away, successfully jumped onto a food basket suspended from the end of a black iron rod, and safely reached the food. However, maybe the squirrel didn't eat enough? After a while, the squirrel reappears and tries to climb up the vertical bar, or jump from the tip of a neighboring tree branch to get to the food basket, but it just doesn't work. Even when jumping from a tree branch, the squirrel is in a blizzard, and the direction of the strong wind changes every moment, so it can be a tailwind or a headwind for the squirrel. On this day, the success or failure of the jump may have been left to the weather conditions. Although it was successful last time, the squirrel was shown the harsh reality that it would not necessarily be successful the second time.
前回、このエゾリスは少し離れた木の枝先からの大ジャンプを成功させて、黒い鉄棒の先に吊るされた餌籠に見事に飛び付いて無事に餌にありついていました。ところが食べ足りなかったのでしょうか。しばらくするとリスは再び現れて、鉄棒をよじ登ろうとしたり、隣の木の枝先からジャンプをして餌籠に飛び付こうとしますが、どうしても上手くいきません。木の枝からのジャンプにしても吹雪の中ですから強風の向きが刻々と変化しますので、リスにとっては追い風になったり向かい風になったりします。この日、ジャンプの成功と不成功は気象条件に委ねられていたのかもしれませんね。前回は成功しましたが、二度目も成功するとは限らないという厳しい現実を見せつけられてしまいました。

Surprisingly, a rather large piece of bait fell from the food basket suspended above the iron rod. The brown-eared bulbul was the first to keep an eye out for food that had fallen on the snow. However, the moment the bulbul swooped down, the squirrel made a mad dash to chase it away and finally got the big piece of food.
しかし、リスは諦めません。リスが何回も何回も試行錯誤を繰り返しているのを見て、幸運の女神が微笑んだのかもしれませんね。なんと、鉄棒の上に吊るされていた餌籠からかなり大きな餌が落ちてきたのです。雪上に落下した餌を目ざとく最初に見つけたのはヒヨドリでした。しかしヒヨドリが舞い降りてきたその瞬間、リスは猛然とダッシュしてヒヨドリを追い払い、ついにその大きな餌を手に入れたのでした。
All the squirrel has to do now is carry the food to a place where it won't be disturbed by competitors and eats slowly. This squirrel did a great job. The food was finally obtained through hard work during a snowstorm, so the squirrel was happily eating in a safe place surrounded by tree branches.
あとは競争相手に邪魔されない場所に餌を運んで、ゆっくり食べるだけです。このエゾリス、頑張りましたねー。吹雪の中、苦労してやっと手に入れた餌ですので、木の枝に囲まれた安全な場所で幸せそうに食べていました。
