Another excellent video and awesome tips!! I love back-button focus and wouldn’t change for anything! Egrets and Blue Herons are my favorites, but it sure is a challenge to keep from overexposing the bright white bird on a sunny day🤪. I love a good challenge👍🏻

Super, excellent and useful clip Emilie. Now video - another subject entirely. If I shoot video I try to use a tripod (not always possible) especially if zoomed into subject. Also use a variable ND filter and a larger LED screen mounted on the camera hot shoe. I could chat about these aspects for hours ha ha. Keep on posting Emilie. As predominantly a wildlife and nature photographer and videographer I can relate to all you say 🥰🥰😊😊

TY for the fantastic hints. Was out yesterday photo walking. I also dont use a tripod I like the freedom to move around when shooting birds and wildlife 😊. Love the concept of setting up Shutter speed before hand. Need to practice back button more, definitely.

Enjoy these! Did I miss your statement about how many focus points you use when using bird detection.
@systemanaturae105
@systemanaturae105 Год назад
Agree 100% with your starting point settings although I generally start with SS 1/1600, f6.3 and ISO between 1600 and 2500. I also use back button focus which is great for lots of reasons especially once AF focused on BB then release to go over to MF and if necessary and possible magnification on lens function button. But hey wildlife is so unpredictable so all the best laid plans of mice and men do not always work ha ha !!!

Good advise. Liked your shorebird photos. And the coyote/harrier encounter. Personally, I am not a fan of Starlings, not the nicest birds (introduced/invasive).

with back button focus, can that be in manual mode on the lens and camera? I've been using autofocus on the lens and manual on my camera. Thanks!
@EmilieT
@EmilieT Год назад
Yes it works if the camera settings is MF as long as your lens is on AF. Try it. You will be able to go from Manual focusing to letting your camera focus for you using BBF.

I have a ef100-400L USM Mk2 and I’m Mode 1 IS the image can take up to 3 seconds before settling down. Is this IS getting tired? Time for servicing?
@EmilieT
@EmilieT Год назад
What do you mean by 'the image can take up to 3 seconds before settling down'?
@chrisschindler7634
@chrisschindler7634 Год назад
@@EmilieT literally that. When I half press the shutter button to start image stabilization (camera is R6) and bring the camera up to my eye the image is wandering around in the EVF for a few seconds. It’s almost like the IS in the lens has to “spool up.” What I’m asking is how long is too long for it to settle down? Should this go in for servicing?
@EmilieT

@@chrisschindler7634 I have never experienced this so I would call OM SYSTEM and ask them. They will tell you if you need to send it in. They are super responsive and helpful.
@gregm6894
@gregm6894 Год назад
Chris, I am an Olympus/OM shooter, but I may know what your problem is. The R6 has IBIS and your 100-400L has IS, which you have set to Mode 1. If you have both lens IS on, as well as your R6 IBIS on, they are probably fighting one another -- this is a common problem unless, like some Olympus/OM lens and body combos, your camera and lens have 'Synch IS' which I doubt. You need to turn off, either the R6 IBIS or the Lens IS and just use one or the other, but not both. I experienced what you are describing in the past when using an Olympus body with the Panasonic 100-400mm, which does not 'Synch' with the camera IBIS -- I simply turned off the IBIS when using that combo.

Your accent is a little difficult for this old man to understand but a second attempt, with closed captioning, turned on, saves the day. I've been using back-button focusing since I got my Canon EOS1-n and won't shoot any other way....Tho it does take some getting used to it but once you've become accustomed to using it there's no better way to capture any action shots. Keep the videos coming.
