Bissell crosswave roller stops working, plastic smell, bad bearings issue..

So the roller would stop working but was the vacuum making noise? If you opened it up and you saw that the belt was kind of worn away and smelled funny then you needed a new belt that you can't get unless you buy a whole new stupid head. I always use wet vacuuming ( I use other vacuums for dry vacuuming ) and I'm very careful as I showed in the video with how much water I use when I use the self cleaning system. the bottom line is that water gets into those bearings it's over quickly. I inspect my rollers to always make sure at that end with a bearing is that nothing is worn out. Usually if there's some the plastic on the roller at the bearing and we'll start to warp a little bit because it's moving around cuz the bearing is starting to go. and not to mention there are bearings in a belt inside there. WHICH MEANS THAT THERE'S GOING TO BE A SHELF LIFE NO MATTER WHAT THAT YOU CAN'T REPAIR. REALLY SUCKS THAT BISSELL'S NOT MORE LIKE HOOVER WHO OFFERS REPLACEMENT PARTS AND HAS WAY MORE SERVICE CENTERS.. I mean every single vacuum I've ever heard of has the ability to replace the belts!! You have a little door you can open and shut. just bissell's way of trying to in my opinion like a lot of companies do FIND A WAY TO LEGALLY STEAL FROM PEOPLE MAKING THEM HAVE TO BUY A WHOLE NEW UNIT. UNBELIEVABLE!!?

@@muzikmon2267 So, replying to your first question. Yes, the vacuum can still be powered on as long as I don't tilt the handle to trigger the roller spinning mechanism. If I do that, the roller doesn't spin and then the vacuum shuts down after approximately 5 seconds. Probably some safeguard system to prevent overheating. But I hear you brother. Getting to that belt, which I didn't get to btw cuz it's in a closed section in the head that requires further dissasembly and I didn't even think that it's the belt (cuz I hadn't watched this video at that time). Getting to the belt will be freaking hastle that requires digging through some wiring and removing the dynamo that makes the roller spin. Yea... I think it's time for a new head... IF I CAN FIND ONE!!!!!!!!!

WOW THAT'S FANTASTIC!! I was looking for that bearing but I didn't know what it was called when I tried to take my bearing out ALL THE BEARINGS FLEW EVERYWHERE IT WAS TOTALLY DESTROYED I COULDN'T READ ANYTHING!! The Next step would be to find out where you get the belt there is a belt inside that is not replaceable as you obviously probably saw.. I wonder where they get that one? What a ridiculous company that they don't replace parts like Hoover does. I mean there's a belt inside and you can't even replace it it's a freaking belt just like any vacuum has If Hoover made one just like this I would buy it in a second there's so many stores that fix Hoover products and they fix things down to a parts list. And you can easily get the parts yourself.. I'm glad they fixed mine because it was under warranty even though I bought it used I was lucky that it was still under warranty. they go by the serial number but at least I know now if it breaks again I can fix it with these bearings I'm so psyched!! But if the belt goes and it will go because it will dry out eventually then we're screwed again cuz you can't find that belt LOL

Also you said yours wasn't rusted my bearings just fell out completely and they were rusted.. I do remember how difficult it was to get the bearings out you used an arbor press but man it's hard they don't make it user serviceable How was yours working still? Me personally I'm so careful I have a cup of water that is the exact amount needed to clean the brush I never go over that line. I pick up the tray and crosswave and put it right on the sink. Then I pour the exact amount of water in let it clean itself shut it off, and do it again until it's clean. Any of that water that you overpore will definitely get in the bearing and destroy it. I use mine since this video about three times a week and I haven't had any issues. But I know it will happen again. One theory is if people are using the rug brush because it's wide open bristles I think a lot of water gets splashed around it can get in the bearing I think people should not use the rug brush and should just use the all-in-one floor brushes because it absorbs more water... Nothing to absorb water with the rug one. But thanks I went on Amazon I found those bearings I'm just going to buy them ahead of time. It's too bad they don't do serviceable parts as I've mentioned. Great product great design. BAD DESIGN IN TERMS OF LONG-TERM USAGE!! Come on Hoover make one just like it!!

@@muzikmon2267 I wish I would have taken video of how I did it, but unfortunately I didn't. There was a lot of rust and dirt inside and originally I tried some WD40 to try and loosen up the bearing and that took most of the gunk out. When I took the bearing out and it came apart, it was rusty inside but after cleaning, it didn't appear to be from the bearing. After putting it all back together, it work like new. Up until now it's been great, but it does sound like it's starting to get louder. I might have to get in there and take another look to see how things are going.

Yep if Hoover made one a lot like it I would buy Hoover they sell all types of parts right down to the bearings. Bissell does not like I was saying you have to replace the whole freaking thing what a freaking scam!! It's unfortunate because they have a great invention!!

@@MA-qj9vz Then how could they screw people out of money if their products lasted? There is a walk around to buy the bearings and do it yourself that someone discussed here. I've already taken apart the unit in the first place which is how I discovered this problem but there was no bearing to be found anywhere. But you can get them on Amazon if you know how to take things apart so the next time it happens I'll be replacing the bearing. That's if the belt on the inside will last? I mean imagine there is a replaceable belt on the inside just like any typical vacuum cleaner but you cannot get to it and it will break down, like any old vacuum cleaner, it will get brittle it will snap and there is no replacement. They're made to break they're made not to be fixed they're made not the last And they cost $300 to $400 It is just unbelievable it drives me crazy..

I didn't buy mine through a retailer either.. it goes by the serial number not by the receipt. As long as it's within two years I think you can have it fixed.. I called them up and they just asked me about the serial number that's it. Give it a shot it worked for me... The only problem was I didn't have my machine for three weeks...

Yes exactly someone else wrote about this on my video.. It's not that hard to replace the bearing.. I've taken mine apart before but I had it under warranty after I put it back together.. yeah it's so stupid.. One of the most important things is how you self clean it if you could see in my video.. do not put too much water in it.. But actually when I open mine up I think the bearing was sealed.. I still think it just got rusted and worn out anyways... The other problem you're going to have and you will not be able to fix.. WHERE DO YOU FIND THE REPLACEMENT BELTS!!! If you opened it up you'll notice there is also a belt in there that's eventually going to wear out.. I CAN'T FIND THAT ANYWHERE!!

Here's what another guy wrote to me on this page a while ago see below. ---------- Brad Bogedain • 2 months ago (edited) I have the same issue. You can fix it and Its not too bad to repair if you are handy. Keep reading for directions to replace the bearing. What I found on mine was that the bearing is only sealed on 1 side. The sealed side was on the inside away from the water...It appears as though they put it in backwards at the factory when my unit was built. Here's how to repair it. 1. Remove all the screws on the bottom, and the top of the foot assembly will come off. 2. There are 4 screws holding the brush motor cover on. Remove these 4 screws and remove the motor cover. This will allowed the motor to swivel and make accessing the belt and belt gears easier. 3. On the side, where the belt is, there are 2 C-clips, one on the brush belt gear and 1 on the motor belt gear. Remove both of these with a flat tip screw driver. 3. Remove the belt, belt brush gear, and motor belt gear. 4. Remove the 2 screws holding the plastic housing that holds the bearing. 5. Press the bearing assembly out of the plastic piece. I used a small arbor press. Hopefully the bearing all comes out in 1 piece, but for me, the bearing broke apart. 5. Use a small bearing puller to pull the bearing off the shaft. (In my case the bearing came apart when I pushed it out of the plastic. I used a bearing puller and press to remove the inner race from the shaft, and external pliers in a vise to remove the outer race from the plastic. (That was the trickiest part.) The bearing is a standard size and says R4RS on it. It appears to be Stainless Steel at least since after almost 2 years it's not rusted. I bought a R4-2RS Stainless Steel replacement that is sealed on both sides, about $9 on Amazon or a local store (I used Motion Industries). Press the new bearing on the shaft, then the assembly into the plastic housing. Now, just work backwards and put it back together.

@@muzikmon2267 I have a feeling they bought whatever bearings they could find cheap and depending on when it was built, that's what you got. My bearing wasn't sealed on either side, but instead shielded on both sides which of course failed in wet conditions. The marking on my belt is somewhat out of order. A traditional synchronous timing belt should show the length first, tooth pitch 2nd, and the width last. My belt shows 3M-196-6. What it should say is 196-3m-6. The total length of 196mm with 3mm tooth pitch and 6mm wide. It has rounded tooth profile. I found this belt on Ebay and Amazon for around $6. I just ordered one just to have on hand so I'll find out soon enough. It's a PowerDrive 195-3M-06 Timing Belt. The picture they use is garbage and doesn't match what it should look like according to the size listed. But if the number is correct, this is the exact belt.

@@lorraincassesso1611 my crosswave is still working perfectly after all this time. make sure to spend time in between wd40 sprays and wiggling with pliers . continue spraying letting it sit and wiggling for like 20 minutes and it'll start to give.

Mine was under warranty so they replaced it if you're going to do it yourself you have to buy the entire bottom half which costs like 106 Someone mentioned they put WD-40 in there sprayed it in their good and it started working again.

It's most likely that the bearing is starting to go ( I can't emphasize enough about trying to not let the water get into the bearing ) I have a measuring cup that I use so when I clean the machine I pick it up put it on my counter into the tray I know exactly how much water to put in. Turn the vacuum on then I put more water in. You do not ever want to go above the fill line. And then of course check your brushes and rollers there is a protective sleeve that goes around the bearing that's on the brush itself mine actually broke off and I didn't even know it. It is ironic but water is the enemy with this type of stuff.. What a bummer that this company makes a product that really can't be fixed. Cuz if it's broke you can't get the bearing, you can't get a new belt you have to replace the whole entire head which will cost you over $100 if you do it yourself. I hope that Hoover makes an equivalent to this because they usually have replacement parts for everything the bearing only costs probably about $10 at most the belts about 6. with Hoover they have more repair shops and they would probably have the bearing and the belt if they broke and they made one of these machines. Bissell is a lot like shark. They don't have replacement parts if they break your shit out of luck!! I understand why shark does it because they keep the prices of their products down pretty low but Bissell there's no excuse..

Also check the brush itself make sure it is covering the bearing where the gear side is sometimes that piece comes off and breaks as I said before.it's like a cup or a sleeve that goes over the bearing that's attached to the brush. Also try spinning the other side of the brush the brush actually has a bearing too if you can't turn it with your hand freely you need a new brush you should replace that ASAP cuz it could do damage to your motor and your belts inside the machine.

There is no way to fix it, they'd never made any parts for it that's how Bissell is That's where they suck when it comes to fixing certain parts Hoover is much better. But they don't have a crosswave. You have to buy the whole head and replace it.. so it's going to cost you like $100 no matter what for the whole head. Then if you can't put it on yourself you're going to have to pay some vacuum cleaner place probably another 75 to 100 At this point you just better off buying a new one on Amazon for around $200 or less. It really sucks Like I said the most important thing is to never go over that LEVEL IN THE TRAY.. Don't turn on the machine until you have the correct level don't put the water in there while it's going.. I think I showed it in the video. What a rip off in a bummer... My suggestion if Hoover make something similar stick with Hoover. if they came out with a crosswave type of thing I would buy there's. At least you can get parts..

So how do you take that off to pull the hair out of that bearing

@@davidrosales6036 It's not just a hair that is stopping it from spinning. It's the bearing that are starting to rust out. So even if you get rid of the hair the bearing is ruined..

Right? My issue is caused by hair!! We have 4 girls with long hair in my household and I have had mine for 3 years in November and I have tried to pull out the hair with every use and it died today it smelled like burning plastic and the roller stoped working. Thankfully it was purchased directly through Bissel and when I looked at their website it says warranty is good for 4 years 😬 wish me luck.

Thankfully it was under warranty.. But you have to replace the whole head with your probably cost over 100.00 it's so sad the Bering only costs like $10. But you can't buy it. Not to mention there is a belt inside a regular rubber belt that is also not supposed to be replaceable. Which means overtime it's definitely going to get dried out and ruined and you'll have to buy a new machine or a new head.. I love Bissell but they can't fix things for instance like Hoover can when it comes to spare parts . Basically they do not have spare parts.. My Hoover cordless vac broke I went to local repair place they recommended. The guy told me don't buy Bissell by Hoover because Hoover can replace things on a parts level. And you can get the parts. Unfortunately Hoover doesn't have a crosswave type machine.. It really sucks because I use my crosswave at least four times a week because it's so easy I clean my house all the time.. The big bulky shampooer that I have I almost never use because it's a pain in the ass. ;)

@@muzikmon2267 my, bissell just encounter this problem. i thought hair was stuck in between the motor or something. im going to pour some cooking oil between those bearing to see if it can lubricate it.

@@muzikmon2267 ok my started to work again after i lubricate it with cooking oil lol. i took a pliers and spin the motor with cooking oil until it felt it got easier to spin. i need to use real lubricate oil later as cooking oil make a bad lubricate. the problem i have now, prior to lubricate it, i took some of the screw off and forgot to put it back on. while i was testing it, i vacuum it. lol. i have to find those screw in the waste container
