"BITS n' PIECES"
Due to a long illness, I have been unable to attend the Ocoee Jam and pursue my video passion for almost two years. After many hospital admissions and physical therapy I have decided to try my hand at another video. My subscribers and my picker friends are my love and motivation. You have been so supportive. A heartfelt thank you to all.
Why the title, “Bits n’ Pieces”? Well, it’s because this video is a “patchwork” designed to bring you the best parts of a number of songs, which I put together by editing out my video bloopers.
You should expect this video to be a little rough from a technical standpoint. I am struggling with weakness and the weight of the camera. My hands were previously impaired, but now are mostly paralyzed. I am having trouble focusing, so if the visual is annoying, just close your eyes and enjoy the sound. As always, my videos are not about me. They are intended to focus on these wonderful musicians whose love for bluegrass helps keep it alive. I don't expect improvement in my condition, but I’ll do my best. Thank you for enjoying the Ocoee Parking Lot Bluegrass Jam. And now for the “boilerplate.”
Jam sessions are for players to interact with other players and make music in a freewheeling environment, without having to be concerned about performing for an audience. Some jams are impromptu, one-time occurrences, while others are weekly events that may happen in a private setting or in a public venue. Jams may focus on a particular style of music or even a particular instrument, and every jam has its own culture and etiquette.
As you watch THE OCOEE JAM, keep in mind this is an OPEN jam. It is not a rehearsed performance. Each picker, in turn, chooses a tune, and he or she sings or plays it accompanied by all the other pickers. Everyone gets a chance no matter the skill level. It seemed that this Jam was composed mostly of experienced pickers. The Jam meets every Friday evening at 6:30 in the parking lot behind the Starbucks Coffee Shop at 10870 West Colonial Dr., Ocoee, Florida 34761.
Personal Note: Phil, Thanks for thje dedication. Your version of "Free Born Man" takes my breath away, especially with Bill's bass runs.
