WHAT AN INTERESTING AND MELODIC VOICE COMING FROM THE PARKING LOT TONIGHT. NOT THE USUAL BANJOS BUT A CHORUS OF MANDOLINS. (720p-HD)
A BRIEF AND INTERESTING HISTORY OF THE “MANDOLINCAFE” CAN BE FOUND AT www.mandolincafe.com/archives/...
The origin of the mandolin in its early form as a loot dates back to 15,000 BC. Bill Monroe brought the mandolin to center stage with his original “bluegrass” style of music in the 1930’s and ‘40’s. "Separate your notes, keep your timing right, and let your tones come out." Monroe said.
Aside from the prominence of the mandolin in this video, there are other fine acoustic contributions which make for a full and different sound. The pickers’ names are listed below in random order. First, a note about the Jam.
Jam sessions are for players to interact with other players and make music in a freewheeling environment, without having to be concerned about performing for an audience. Some jams are impromptu, one-time occurrences, while others are weekly events that may happen in a private setting or in a public venue. Jams may focus on a particular style of music or even a particular instrument, and every jam has its own culture and etiquette.
As you watch THE OCOEE JAM, keep in mind this is an OPEN jam. It is not a rehearsed performance. Each picker, in turn, chooses a tune, and he or she sings or plays it accompanied by all the other pickers. Everyone gets a turn no matter the skill level. It seemed that this Jam was composed mostly of experienced pickers. The Jam meets every Friday evening at 6:30 in the parking lot behind the Pizza Hut at 10870 West Colonial Dr., Ocoee, Florida 34761.
PICKERS:
Johnny Adams - mandolin, guitar, vocals
Bill Miller - acoustic bass
Phil Gregory - guitar, vocals
Gerald Creed - guitar, fiddle, vocals,
Russ White - guitar
Doug Buchheister - mandolin, guitar, vocals
Tim Clifford - mandolin, vocals
Denise - ribbed crow sounder, vocal
Adam - guitar, vocal
Don Alexander - dobro
Dave Folta - mandolin, vocals

My goodness, Jeff. That's quite a nice compliment, but as we know, the credit belongs to the pickers. I'm just the button pusher. You are very kind.

Living in a Banjo dominated world is fine but this Mandolin trio is out of this world! It's hard to deny fate when these mando pickers somehow got together and you were there to do the recording. What a treasure having these jammers perform and captured by you so the rest of us can have a front row seat. Regards, T.

We never know what to expect It's an open jam to all stringed instruments, so we never know who will show up. Next week we may have five banjos and no mandolins. It's like a box of chocolates, always a nice surprise. Thanks for the post.
