@@Umadoveracommentg I've got a gym near me in texas where the coach gets recruited by team usa to compete in grappling events. However I don't think he's ever won in those competitions. But, we do have practitioners in texas

I don't think he even in competed in the world sambo championship in russia last year, he certainly didn't medal in his weight class if he did. He also doesn't have a wikipedia page. In fact a quick google search of his name brings up a field hockey player. I
@@joeschmoe6908 he didn’t compete in the 2021 World Sambo Chamionships. He competed in the 2021 Youth, Junior, and Cadet Sambo World Championship. He did not do well there. He was the 3rd seed and left after falling to the 11th seed, who went on to take bronze, in the first round. He also is competing in the 2022 World Sambo Championship two weeks from now.
@@joeschmoe6908 Maybe it's because this video gained traction or maybe it's because I'm Irish and have 0 interest in hockey but his name popped up pretty quick for me didn't have to type the whole thing in and there's absolutely no mention of a hockey player anywhere. As for how good he is I guess we'll see starting 13th November he'll be in Kyrgyzstan at the world championship, though that in itself is testament to him not being a bum imo.
@@shitposterdosouthamericame8413 yea... but fedor really underestimated werdum. i love werdum, he was/is a great fighter, and that performance was incredible, but nobody can say it with his hand on his heart that he believes it that werdum was better than fedor. and khabib and islam kind of prove that sambo is the shit. bjj is serious too, it's a real thing, but it's rather the person practicing the sambo or the bjj that makes the difference, at high level, like ufc title fights.

Imagine there was an event where people from all fighting styles can compete against each other head to head with almost no rules. This way, each of them could use their style to its full potential.
How about one match BJJ, one match Sambo…. Then if they have a tie the rubber match can be anything. Eskrima, kickboxing, cinnamon challenge, Call of Duty, whatever… maybe draw it out of a hat containing like 100 different options.

I watched a mini-doc on Mikey...his grappling is on another level. Its ALL position and..science... he contributes none of his success to "athleticism" but more so science of the body. I'm way over simplifying it..but he said that's why he's able to basically control wnd man handle dudes twice his size. It's ALL off knowing how body works and responds...he's an amazing story
I fought an aikido master once, he moved my body in ways I didn't think were possible. I felt so vulnerable and powerless to his aikido control. I ended up tapping out although I wanted the moment to last longer. Ever since then I developed a respect for alkido and the strong young men who use it. Especially the men who use it on me since every time I fight an aikido master I gain experience. And the strong desire to fight again with these young men. I've been paired up against many men in my life but none of those men were as strong as the guys I fought in aikido. My aikido needs work though as last year this guy got me in a triangle choke, which I found it hard to get out. Especially since he had strong thick legs that squeezed me tight. Personally I'm better at submitting people in twisters or rear naked chokes, they're probably my favorite positions. Especially when I have an audience that always gets me excited ☺️

This brings up a fair point, there’s no accurate way besides MMA to really test which grappling art is most effective. A pure wrestler could destroy a BJJ guy in a wrestling match and lose in a BJJ match, same with sambo, judo, etc. never really considered the ruling but it’s a great point
Chael the wording of his challenge would heavily imply that its Sambo rules that should be followed. He didnt say I want to fight the no1 Sambo fighter, he said 'in Sambo' as in, in a Sambo match.

This is so true. I used to take judo, and I am often surprised at the different rules between grappling sports. There are also some techniques that are legal for one sport but illegal for another. It's hard to think about that kind of stuff when you're actually in a match
Sambo Guy is like Jake Paul. Needs to enforce limitations that don't exist normally in that event. Like Chael said, they don't need to talk. The rules of the event are the rules. . . Just show up.
I've never seen BJJ work on the Dagestani Sambo guys like Khabib and Islam.It's hard to believe there isn't a line of relatively unknown savages from Dagestan that would be #1 in the world in Sambo.
That’s only because of the cage, lack of knees to head from ground or soccer kicks or 12-6 elbows, UFC massively benefits grapplers, never mind the smaller cage sizes

Buddy, i usually agree with you, but they obviously are talking about agreeing on which of their fighting style's ruleset they are going to follow or if it will be some sort of hybrid rules. They very much meed to talk no matter what or the match doesn't happen at all.
As someone who doesn't practice any of this, if someone challenges someone from a different discipline, shouldn't the person throwing the challenge be the one to adjust to the rules set of the person they're challenging? Maybe I'm wrong but it sounds like this video is suggesting the opposite.

Well that actually makes a lot of sense because as far as i know combat sambo has striking in it and sport sambo doesn’t. At least it’s what I’ve been told in a gym
I love how all these commenters are blown away that a Sambo World Champion has a Western name, even though the *Brazilian* Jiu Jitsu World Champion is an Italian American.
To be entirely fair, Sambo isn't near as wide spread as BJJ. Sambo has branched out a bit, but is mainly practiced in Russia, other ex-Soviet countries, and elsewhere in eastern Europe. On the other hand, you can throw a rock and hit a BJJ gym in most areas of the world now.
sambo is mma, they focus on striking throwing & wrestling & submissions, so there was a high chance sambo would lose to only grappling event but still very interesting

If you put out a challenge to a fighter from a different sport there should be a no rules fight or mma rules,otherwise your challenge has no relevance. It's like a boxing match between Floyd and Connor. Entertaining as it was ,it had no relevance in proving wich is the best fighter.
Yea sambo rules are limited compared to bjj. Sambo had judoka, striking, grappling and submission’s. So limited you want him to water it down to just submission only. And there is no way a guy named Taylor is number one in the world. Bring over a Russian lol. And why are you yelling? Lol
There is nothing wrong with what Taylor said. It is true because the rules are so different. Kurtka/gee or not. Slams are not acceptable for bjj they are for Sambo, Chokes are not acceptable for sport Sambo they are for BJJ. Sport or combat? what are the pin/submission/ point rules? Whenever BJJ goes against sambo they really need to have special designated rules that make it as even as possible without handicapping one's strength over the other. If you made it sambo rules, sambo would win. If it was bjj rules, sambo would win. jk but there needs to be a balance of rules to make it as fair as possible for both fighters.
