It's more than that. After his first battle, a defeat, his father was pleased with his effort and named him Ironside. Bjorn was upset, his work didn't matter because he lost.
@@abdul-rahmanlawal2183 You make that statement as if someone with a scoped rifle was just waiting to take a shot. Combat archery was vastly more skill/luck based.
@@abdul-rahmanlawal2183 Even if there was a headshot, the same nonsense wouldve gone on. They all already thought he was dead, it was him riding out at all that made them terrified, not him taking a few arrows without falling off his horse
Bjorn was nothing like Ragnar... Bjorn wanted to be like Ragnar, but was more like Rollo in almost every way. Especially his brute strength, while Ragnar was more of an agile fighter.
@@thelordjester I would say for the most part he was other than killing the farmers but the Vikings did horrible things too so for the most part I would say he was good person for the west saxons
Yo I’m just now seeing how much like his father he really acted. Makes sense seeing as how Bjorn spent by faaaaaaaaaaar the most time and had the most real connection with who his father really was. The others born to a legendary king and bjorn to a farmer named Ragnar
An amazing acting job... He and ubbe's actor were the only ones who really ever mimicked Travis Fimmel's Ragnar mannerisms. And alex did it far more as his Bjorn aged... Really brought to life exactly what you described. Both a great performance in its own right and a fitting tribute to the foundations Travis laid.
Bjorn is just a monkey trying to be a big brother, Ivar is the man who killed him only by using his brain. Bjorn got no brain, he never plan any good strategy. He always loose against Ivar...
@@eindeutschlehrer8508 a killer winning instinct and mindset, often in NBA games, if a team is leading by say 20 points or more, they often begin to slack or relax a little bit more as such leads are very hard to catch up with, Kobe Bryant learned from Michael Jordan, that its never over until the clock runs out, no matter how many points you are ahead, dont slack, dont relax, keep playing your best until the clock runs out.
Bjorn was the inbodiment of ragnars Ivar was ragnars anger and intelligence Hvizerk was open minded like him Ubbe became a journey man like him And Sigurd was all of his rage which eventually got him killed
I think Ragnar lived deep within Bjorn. I remember when they had the talk when he was younger, Ragnar says something along the lines of "who told you you were supposed to be happy?!" He was a thought dad that only Bjorn really got to experience
I love the last kingdom, I think it's an amazing show with great characters, but I've seen people say that the fight scenes are better than Vikings' fight scenes, and that can't be more false. Never once in Vikings did I think to myself "Those are just two actors doing choreography and not actually trying to hurt each other" when that happens several times in TLK. And when you see Bjorn, Rollo, Ragnar, Floki, Lagertha, etc fight you get pulled in and it makes you feel like you're right there on the battlefield with them, watching them kick ass. Ad how could I forget Athelwulf!! Dude was a straight monster on the battle field. Seeing him be used as a pawn by Ecbert, and then still coming out alive every time made me a fan. "Kill The Queen" was insane.
Vikings has that Hollywood style combat fighting whereas in The Last Kingdom the battles are always more realistic I.e. always fighting in shield wall formation which is how both the Saxons and Danes fought each other which this show excludes and has generic melee fighting.
@@mijanhoque1740 Vikings focuses a lot more on the earlier history of them raiding England and France, before Danelaw, so the tactics wouldn't have been as sharp as they were 100 years after someone like Ragnar would've lived. Not gonna argue that Vikings is historically accurate, though. They mix and match a lot of history, or give characters historical scenes where it was a different character in real life who did it. Like when Ragnar acted like he was dead to get into Paris. In real life, that was Bjorn and his half brother. But as far as the actual action scenes are concerned, Vikings is perfect. It's filmed perfectly, it's perfectly choreographed, and the actors actually look like they're swinging swords at each other as hard as they can while in TLK I've seen countless times where Uthred or someone will either be stiff while fighting or you can just tell they're holding back.
Of course he is more like Ragnar than any of his brothers, think about how long he raised Only Bjorn. Bjorn was born, grew to be a teen, and witnessed his father's return home from the first trip to the new world. All while living under the same roof with Ragnar. The other brothers may have had some teaching from Ragnar here and there, but Bjorn grew up hearing Ragnar and Lagertha talking, fighting, fuckin, discussing plans and strategies. Bjorn is Ragnar made over because Ragnar MADE Bjorn
He was actually a son of ragnar lothrbok, his name was Halfdan ragnarson ( according to Anglo-Saxon sources)... but the norse sagas name him Hvitserk so they are probably the same person.
The fact that King Aethelwulf gets taken out by a bee 🐝 sting (allergy) after fighting in multiple wars & walking away, IS STILL SO WILD TO ME!!! Vikings was a brilliant series overall, but that was jaw-dropping!
Now i remember Kobe Bryant was asked why he is not celebrating while his teamates were jumping for joy when the Lakers won the western conference finals. He simply said "job's not finished." That kind of mentality is amazing
One thing they never seem to get right in movies and TV is that the vast majority of deaths during most battles don't actually occur during melee engagement, but actually occur when one line falters and breaks into a rout. Then the vast majority of deaths occur as the fleeing force is simply slaughtered as they turn to run. When a line holds there are few deaths.
Bjorn fought with and learned from legendary Vikings, including his own father. Obviously they all taught him well. Bjorn was different from his brothers. I think that's why he was my favorite of Ragnars sons, followed by Ubbe.
Bjorn too like his father and mother was the child of farmers, he saw his father rise up the ranks and become the king from the ground up- he saw what steps he took and how he executed them, he saw enough to learn it when he got older. The other brothers were the son of King Ragnar who they only saw as a high figure in the social hierarchy. They grew up well but didn't have the same mentality as bjorn
Bjorn seen a lot more than his brothers at this point and really understands the reality of their battles and the death that comes with it. You can see Ragnar really display the same emotions towards battles in the earlier seasons after the fighting has ended.
Sheesh what a super team they had coming for everyone’s head in Wessex. Half Dan, harald, all of the ragnarsons and then floki making ships for a massive invading force of just pure savages lol. No wonder they killed everyone they intended too, idk who could’ve been able to stop that freight train if anyone.
Aethelwulf was a good man, a great warrior who fought in many wars to defend his country. He was smart and strategic. In my opinion, he was a better man than his father. It's a shame that he was killed by a bee.
Ya everyone else is happy for the win. They all were in it together and just wanted to come out on top. Bjorn cared more about his self and his rep than actually avenging his Father or gaining lands, wealth, and privileges for his people. So the fact that Ivar's plan worked, a plan that assumed that the English would have outsmarted Bjorn and lured him into a location where his army would have had no protection or chance to avoid total devastation. Which is why he's different. He's pissed, embarrassed, and sulking. He believes he's the good guy like his father, but he's actually like his real father. Rollo. He's jealous, selfish, and only pretends to care about family bc they are smarter, better tacticians and, invoke high emotions in men that cause them to display an unbreakable loyalty to them. Its this moment right here and his Rollo like morals and personality that causes the Scandinavian civil war and leads to the destruction of the brotherly Bond of the Sons Of RagNar.
Crazy to think on a planet that is 4.5 billion years old we essentially had no rules parking lot fights to determine who gets what only a few hundred years ago. Wild.
Just started watched vikings and I'm hooked ! Literally just watched this scene and the way Bjorn fights is insane 💯, absolutely kills me knowing that he gets taken out by Ivar, what a joke of an ending for him 🤦🏽♂️
