Black Americans Express Their 1960s Rage. Have Things Changed? How Do You See It?

As my subscribers know, I have been collecting meaningful documentary material for most of my career. In the late 1980s, I produced a television series on the 1960s back then I was an independent documentary filmmaker working for the networks etc. This compilation was put together by me from footage that I collected back then and although I did not shoot these scenes, I worked for the producers that did. These black Americans are angry. And expressing it articulately. Does it sound like today? In some ways yes. With the murder of George Floyd, people have gone into the streets again and some of what I present here could sound like it was recorded in the present.
Some subscribers asked why I use the word rage in my title. Yes they are angry. Yes they are seething. Yes they are disgusted and frustrated, the speakers. Looking up the definition of the word rage, I feel that some of these expressions speak to that emotion. I have interviewed so many people of all stripes on this issue and the stories that I have heard from black Americans who have suffered indignities that seem hard to believe. Somewhat disgusting. Some people have treated them as subhuman.
There is not much one can say who has not experienced what they have but I feel that by presenting this history, certainly not all that occurred back then, but a part of it, that I am helping to create a historical record which is three-dimensional if you look at the dozens of commentaries I have posted on my RU-vid channel regarding civil rights, human rights, American history, family life, etc. during the 1950s, the 1960s, up into the present. I am over 80 years old and I'm still recording stories and commentaries like these.
If you found this video of interest, please consider supporting my efforts by clicking the Super Thanks below the video screen. Your support will allow me to continue to present videos like this from my archive.
Thank you

Depends on whose saying it. There was a samll group of AA who left America in the 60s and moved to a small town in Israel and today they have grown to where they are the majority in that town doing just fine outside of America's system of racism and ws. Some of us vacation outside of the US to allow the body and mind to heal while others see things that inspire them to move there part time or permanently.

@@slimpickens01 that sounds good for the minority of black people who were properly educated but for the most part a lot black people we’re denied proper education and probably didn’t know better. The 3rd speaker sums it up perfectly, the reason why segregation was a thing was because of the fear that black people would be equal or better than the white man and rise up. Clear and simple they just didn’t see black people as equal to them and did everything in their power to keep them below. Even after slavery “ended” they were promised equality but only got a crumb of it

@Peggy Wislon Well said! I agree that trying to reason with the unreasonable is a fruitless endeavor, and that after that noble effort feels, or is, wasted then there is no other choice but to speak in a way that they, the unreasonable, would understand, through screaming and/or impassioned pleas like some of the fine folks in this clip. I don't know if the majority of US citizens are unreasonable though, just too comfortable with the way things are or they have a differing view on how things should be improved. I don't know and hope that we all, as neighbors and as fellow Americans, can figure out a way to respect each other without a need to resort to shouting or screaming. Maybe an impossibility but I still hope it can happen and will do what i must to make that a reality.

@TravelWithBradley
@TravelWithBradley 3 года назад
@@donaldrex0495 Yes, I understand you entirely. It is an extension of your original thought process and still, in my opinion, entirely wrong and illogical. Plenty of "pure americans" have entirely different world views to you... But you wouldn't get out just because somebody like them gets elected, you'd say, if you don't like it here - let's improve it. But no, when race is involved, there is no extension or olive branch or hope, there is only your miserable view of "do what I say, be like me, or gtfo" which you don't apply to yourself, or anybody else who doesn't fit your profiling. Furthermore, when did anybody express that they were ungrateful for being in america? All I saw was people wanted to be treated equally, as they were brought here and used as slaves and were still feeling that effect? Additionally. It's a public forum, if you don't want others to respond, don't post your views in a public place. Plus, it's 2021, it's not hard to get an 'opportunity' to live anywhere in the world. It isn't a thing you can say that has value lol. For somebody so "American" You seem to have a massive problem with freedom of speech, freedom of expression, and an absolute problem with people wanting to live differently than you? Are you sure you're American? You sound like a fascist =) Also to further your analogy; "Somebody moved in next door to me and said the house was full of damp" - LOVE IT OR GET OUT! "meanwhile, you and your 5 other friends live in lovely houses and get to complain/improve it as much as you want" If you're allowed to complain, so is everybody else, we don't live in a world where people give up their rights as human beings just to be part of your 'club'.

@F Thomas The system that was put in place perpetuates racial antagonism. It's principles are based on exploitation. The conditions that allow it to continue would have to be transformed to a permanent system of justice, and a system must be judged by it's principles, not it's adherence. The revolútionary leap to systematic justice will change it all together. Unfortunately for our situation it can't be reformed away. We've ran the gamut of that "experiment" in the last century and here we are with the same problems that were created outside of our will and intent, but have not been solved as we have attempted to do in full measure within this system. It's for us to make that revolútionary leap to true liberation and independence. Then it wouldn't matter how hateful another race is of us, from that point forward they will no longer possess the wherewithal to carry out racist actions against us. They'll just be people smouldering in race hate without the means to affect us anymore. That's liberation.

Speakers in order: 1. Russel Meek 1968 social activist and teacher 2.William bouie Haden, a civil rights leader in Pittsburgh. 3. Akmed Lorence. The young black man that remarkably sounds a bit like Mike Tyson is Akmed Lorence, 1968 Vietnam war veteran activist. Of the "no Vietnamese ever called me "The N-word" fame 4. Man not yet identified 5. Angela Yvonne Davis? (identified by @Vernon Andrews, God bless you***but I'll place this as a tentative identification let's confirm. The lady in the clip has a distinctive American drawl, whereas the clips I can see of Angela Davis she has a British Accent and slower clearer distinct enunciation of words. Angela Davis also has a distinct gap in her upper front teeth - very prized in my African culture btw a mark of beauty - whereas this speaker doesn't but will leave this here as we confirm). Amazing amazing woman. Started out in the Student non violent coordinating committee, then Black panthers, then Che-Lumumba club, In 1970 she was the third woman in history to be placed on the F.B.I’s “10 most-wanted fugitives” list. Was acquitted of all charges. Ran twice for vice president of the United States in 1980 and 1984, still active in the movement to improve prison conditions and dismantle the prisons-industrial complex. Davis continues to be an activist and lecturer as Professor Emeritus of History of Consciousness and Feminist Studies at the University of California at Santa Cruz. She's among several prominent black women activists that initially were members of the black panther party: Angela Davis, Kathleen Cleaver, Assata Shakur, Elaine Brown, Charlotte Hill O’Neal, Chaka Khan, Tarika Matilaba, Judy Hart, and Barbara Easley. There was something on the air in the late 60's and early 70's. 6. Preston Lay Junior 7. Flyod McKissik - CORE national director Congress of racial equality (CORE) Floyd Bixler McKissick was an American lawyer and civil rights activist. The first African-American student at the University of North Carolina School of Law 8). Unidentified man 9). Unidentified eloquent young man 10) Fannie Lou Hamer, amazing lady - thanks @Rashida Saafir for this one - She led civil rights in the South, co-founded a polity party and in the end opted for economic empowerment forming a large cooperative company the freedom farm Cooperative. Entire volumes can be written on any portion of her life, pick any few years. 11) Last two singers duet “Everybody’s Got a Right to Live,” originated during the original 1968 Campaign: Jimmy Collier and Rev. Frederick Douglass “Kirk” Kirkpatrick (1933‒1987)

Imagine growing up in the 1960's and being called the N-Word from whites in cars just walking to the store. At least this has improved. My parents sheltered us from most of the indignities they had to endure so hate would not be instilled in us.. We were among the first bused students to a predominately white school. We were not raised to feel inferior to no one and we excelled, with most of us having advanced degrees now. My older sister and I both have law degrees. I had great parents.

They were never fighting for freedom. They were tricked into fighting for totalitarianism just like most germans in the 30s and 40s. Nazism and marxxism are two sides of the same totalitarian coin. The only thing that differs between them is who is named oppressor and oppressed. Hitler even got the ideas for camps and secret police from marx. If you're curious about how people are tricked, read influence by cialdini. He's written many books, but I wish he would do one about the mechanics involved in ideologies that result in genocide like these two have. If youre interested in how nazism and marxjsm are similar, there's a great article by the New York times which you can find by searching "marx was racist and genocidal "

America sold its freedom in 1931 with federal reserve act. Its not about just blavks anymore. Whites are realizing thus too. Why do you think more whites are raged. But this is where their trickery comes in. As soon as white rage started to build up in 2008 with housing crash and grassroots movement was building steam they infiltrated ut and controlled it through suggestions and persuasions. They needed to quell the black population by selecting first black president. Obamas role was to basically entertain the minorities. We all fell for it. I did. But when donald trump was elected america showed its true color. The racism we thought we have made progress over in the past decades was still alive.
