BLACK CAP TOE OXFORD | One Shoe Every Man Needs 

Thursday Boot version of a black cap toe oxford. It does not have some of the details as your's but I also believe that it's price is a little less. Very comfortable, takes and holds a shine well, very little creasing in the vamp, and looks nice in overall. For that price range, I highly recommend it. Great videos, please keep it up.

I have a vintage pair of Bostonian captoe oxfords from about 25 years ago, and a pair of Allen Edmonds Oxfords with a toe medalion, which is close to a captoe oxford. I don't wear them all that much, though, but I did wear them to my wedding 22 years ago.

AE and Alden are both great brands. But like you said, most guys in the States have heard of AE. So I like bringing attention to less known brands that are just as good or better. JFF makes really nice shoes and size have a fe shoe trees from them as well. Hopefully your son likes them.

Thank you and Happy Father’s Day to you, Adam! My very first pair of Goodyear welted shoes were Black but they weren’t Cap Toe Oxfords and had some brogueing. That sounds very expensive. I’m guessing you can’t buy Vass directly from their website in the U.K.?

Those are all great options. I would go with Carmina at 1 then CB and JFP as a tie. Have you ever tried any of these brands lasts?

@@v_r_ I recently bought my first pair of nice dress shoes but they haven't been delivered yet. I got a pair of Cobbler Union Half-Brogue Oxfords in dark brown. The last is Louvre in 10UK. I'm crossing my fingers they will fit properly. The only reference I have is an old pair of Park Avenues 11E which fit OK

Congrats, CB is a good brand. Buying shoes online is always tricky as we all have different types of feet. With that said, hopefully everything works out.

Hey Tianyang, personally I’d go with Vass, C&J and Carmina in that order. Vass is handwelted while the other 2 are Goodyear welted, so I prefer them.

If you have a pair of Black wholecuts, you don’t necessarily need a Black cap toe Oxford. To me, it’s one or the other as I don’t wear Black shoes too often.

I'd say it depends on the occasion as a blucher is definitely more casual.

What up, fam? Vass shoes retail for €560 starting. As far as my suits, it’s a combination of Made-to-Measure and Off-the-Rack. The MTM are full canvas with working button holes.

What’s up, Seweryn? That’s a tough one, last I checked, the Meermin pair besides being handwelted also comes with JR soles. CU has better finishes and better quality control, so less defects. Assuming that the handwelted line doesn’t take a lifetime to break like the regular line, the Meermin might be a better buy, I think.

Haha...way too many choices. To be frank, Vass is a really hard brand to gauge. Sadly, they’re not the best fit for my feet. I’m hoping one day I can go to Budapest to get a personalized Last made since I love them so much.

Kero I think he mentions in other videos that he has flat feet which he was unaware of before. Some shoes with “high instep” might cause problem areas. He also mentions that there is a “gap” that develops along the sides of his foot. The sides of the shoe start to spread out causing a gap or space. I think this is what he might’ve meant.

Meermin is a very good value. The break in period can be a little tough but they’ll mold to your feet and get real comfortable after about 10 wears.

Hey Raphael, thank you! I prefer cap toes cause I find them more visually appealing. I shy away from whole-cuts because they crease more since it’s just one piece of leather at the toe and I don’t like that. Both styles are nice though and that’s just my preference.

Without the brogueing is dressier so that would be my choice. Unless you have a plain black cap toe Oxford already.

Brogues are nice but too casual for many occasions. If you need to a mirror shined plain cap toe Oxford is perfectly fine for black tie where a brogue isn’t.

A cap toe Oxford with a mirror shine is perfectly acceptable for black tie. Not sure upon what you’re basing that statement. The wholecut, the opera pump are dressier but the mirror shined plain cap toe is entirely appropriate.

I’m sure there are videos on those brands from some guys that are more fashion forward, if you will. But when we’re talking about Style and Classic Menswear, those type of brands don’t stand a chance. What you’re really paying for when you go with those names is exactly that, the name. The craftsmanship that goes into a lot of the brands that I talk about and beyond is really what sets them apart. Also, aesthetically there’s no comparison.

I don’t disagree with anything that you said. I guess where I’m coming from is one don’t really need more than 1 pair of Black shoes unless they have a ton of shoes. And if they’re gonna go with one, then it should be a Black Cap Toe Oxford. Then they can wear their Brown shoes for more casual occasions. I hope that makes sense.

@@v_r_ yes, it makes sense, but this is my take. I can only speak for my experience. Though i don't like black shoes as much as brown shoes, I still need to wear them about 20 to 30% of the time for the following reasons. 1. If you are wearing black pants, then you have to go with black shoes. (and for some reason, I have multiple pairs of black dress pants in my closet that I usually wear with a grey sportcoat, or sometimes a check or glen plaid sportcoat.) I would do this because if I am wearing something as loud as a black and white plaid sportcoat, or maybe a fancy shirt or tie, I would want to not call attention to my lower half . But, black captoe oxfords are no appropriate for blazer or sport coat and tie look. Hence, the plain toe blucher, or wingtip brogue, or even the black monk strap. Another reason I wear black pants a fair amount is, they can take a lot of abuse before they show signs of wear. And as a go to item in the closet, it is surprisingly versatile, even though a black suit is not. 2. Black shoes are the default choice for me with a charcoal grey suit or dress pants. not the most sylish look, of course, but again, there are times where you just want to look presentable. Not always, and when i am trying to be more sylish, I would go with dark brown or burgundy, but at least half the time, i would go black shoes. But again, for a regular business setting, I would say black balmorals are too dressy, at least here in the Midwest. 3. Darker shoes hold up better to rain and snow than lighter shoes. Black shoes are darker than brown shoes, which are darker than Chili, which in turn is darker than Cognac, tan, or walnut. Thus, when the weather is bad, I reach for my oldest pair of black laceups. But again, if the captoe oxford is your special occasion shoe, you don't want it to be your bad weather shoe. Just my opinion.
