I've been using the Black Diamond 15 Running Vest for close to the last two years. I initially bought this pack because I thought it would be great for shorter hikes in warm weather, colder weather long-distance running, and mountain biking. As it turns out it's pretty good for all of those things. It seems much larger than 15L when compared to my Ultraspire Zygos which is a 12 liter vest. This thing just swallows gear. There is hardly any organization other than an internal pocket and some covered zips on the shoulder straps.
I don't love this pack as my main running vest. I compare it with my Ultraspire Zygos running vest and the differences are clear. However, now that I live in Tucson and the weather is never cold or rainy I find myself using this pack for nearly every hike that I don't bring multiple cameras.
The Black Diamond Distance 15 is comfortable for the long haul and has proven durable and weather resistant. Is it the right pack for you? I think if you're a multi sport athlete who has bigger days in the mountains this is the perfect pack. Should it be your main running pack? Probably not. Your mileage may vary.

Thanks, intersting comparion! I own the Uultraspire Zygos 5.0 and previously used the Zygos 4.0: I really love the Zygos - and a few more Ultraspire products. I do agree though that for winter conditions when you need extra layers, the Zygos tends to get a bit too full very quickly, especially since I like to use it with an hydration reservoir. A bigger version of the Zygos would be awesome for when you need to carry more gear!

Agreed! I had their Epic a while ago but that was too large for what I needed and at the time it wasn’t offered with different torso sizes and that really can make all the difference.

@@PagosaCreative I also have their Epic XT 2.0. I really like some of the features and recently used it for a multiday ultra race: great pack but I agree with you - it's often too big unless you need to carry a lot of gear. The one-size-fit-most was also my main gripe about it. I heard they might release a new pack of around 20 liters (roughly 1200 c.i.) sometime this year. They mention it in this video at minute 21: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fIZL5sLI2vI.html Their Epic XT 3.0 is now offered in two sizes so the new pack might also be available in different sizes.

those straps on the side can be used to store stuff on the outside... but really they are meant to be used for load compression... i use this partially full and these straps keep the load close to your body...

That excess room is actually for a headlamp.
