I love this scene so much. The intentionally bad edit fucking kills me every time. Normally, a take like this wouldn't make the final cut for obvious reasons, but it's something you can totally do for a great gag in a movie that's lovingly poking fun at genre that's known for being low budget. This is so smart
It was done as both a parody and homage to actual blaxploitation movies of the 70s. They often times didn't have the budget for multiple takes, so they'd have to leave in the fuckups out of necessity.
Bullhorn's actor was the person involved with the movie who had near-encyclopedic knowledge of blaxploitation tropes and movies, so no expense was spared in looking like no expense was spent. 😂
I can't say if the actors here had little theatrical martial arts training, but it's great how they interrupt the intentionally terrible martial arts poorly covered by intentionally bad editing with a very good fake slap with an actually realistic sound effect and emotional reaction.
This is a throwback to how quite a few movies back in the day were personally made and really didn’t have the best editing. There’s an old martial arts movie Blood of the Dragon(1971)the main character is dueling a king and defeats him easily and takes his sword. He taunts the king as he fakes that he’s about to kill him with his own weapon but he the actor accidentally drops the sword. They didn’t even cut it out, they kept it in🤣. There are a lot of horrific edits in the film, it is however a badass fantasy martial arts film.
Correction, it really did come out in 2009. It's a parody of blacksploitation (black exploitation) movies FROM the 70s! Dude that wrote it and starred as Black Dynamite played Spawn!
It was a joke. The actors in -this- movie are playing actors -in a movie-. This sort of thing happened in blaxpoitation movies. Actors had to be replaced mid-scene. This is a spoof on that.
00:13 "Even when slapping was fashionable, you know they did it in Paris. 'wap pap! I challenge you to a duel!' They had a gun fight after that, someone had to go!"
Okay, I'll try to make this easy for you. The part of the movie where he slaps the guy and changes actors is intentional. The other comments mention this because it's a funny, intentional joke. Shit like this happened all the time in blaxploitation movies, so Black Dynamite, a satire of the blaxploitation genre, intentionally put it in for a few laughs. Clear?
Wait! What? I didn't read your comment fully because I got distracted by a fly in my livingroom. Could you type it again except this time without the fly distraction?
never before or after in my life, did i laughed harder, than at the midnight movies when they played this, it was a RIOT, my friend literally laughed so hard,,,she pissed herself, yes!she peed a little. if your in a good mood, i highly recommend this flick!
The original "Sundance Cut" as I call it was even funnier. The scene instantly cuts to the replacement actor after he gets angry about getting slapped without the beep and editing frames.
Another thing I noticed that made the scene even funnier is that the second actor is wearing the same jacket as the first. Look how baggy it is on the second guy
