Some black enchantments that could be an interesting addition to your commander decks. Patreon / edhdeckbuilding TCGPlayer Affiliate Link www.tcgplayer.com/?...
Hecatomb seems great in a Beledros witherbloom deck! You make a pest every single upkeep, and can pay 10 life to untap all your lands to ping twice with all of your swamps.
I was gonna say this too!! my witherbloom deck could definetly hecatomb, and combo with the cards from dominaria united that make land dryads. Make a ton kf land tokens, play urborg, then hecatomb. Deal like 20+ damage xdd
I found the better commander is Valentin of the Dean. I just made this golgari deck. You make more pests than you think bc it's when your opponents creatures die and Valentin is a 1 drop. I'll be adding hecatomb.great job Demo...love the old cards
I made a Lethal Vapors / Kardur Doomscourge and I DO activate it haha. The deck is where you skip your own turn 1,000 times and uses "until your next turn" things like kardur. very fun to set the trap and watch them try to get out of it, of course doesn't always win haha!
@@KryptOKnight184 Wouldn't the claws of gix sac just go on the stack, giving your opponents priority before it resolves to activate the lethal vapours ability?
@@Toowe222 well since sacrificing a permanet is a part of the cost for claws of gix, lethal vapros will be gone before the opponent can react. They can react to things that happen on the right side of the " : "
I really enjoy playing Pestilence in my decks. It's always a good way to sneak in some damage and wipe all the little creatures of the board and nobody removes it because it's not a big threat
Also very nice synergy with Circle of Affliction on black. Pest deals damage to you, triggers Circle to drain for 1, so you never lose life to Pestilence
I have Hecatomb in my Endrek Sahr deck. Sacrificing 4 useles Thrulls is no problem and the ability to ping anything is really effective, especially when sacrifing creatures causing people to lose life, discard cards and sacrifice their own creatures!
Koskun Falls is so good in my Jon Irenicus deck, Jon seldom needs to attack so he's a great little tapper to keep even more hate coming towards you than there already will be anyway XD
demo i would also like to mention the lethal vapors+ teferi's protection combo. cast teferi's protection, then in response, active the last ability of lethal vapors an infinite amount of times, each one in response to the last. unless your opponent has alternate wincons, they draw their whole deck and die.
I play lethal vapors all the time to trigger graveyard recursion combos. It's also good to shut a player down for a turn. I'm kind of known in my group for finding and playing weird ass random enchantments no one has ever seen or heard of before that just completely wreck the board. As a result they all have enchantment removal on deck now... I call that success.
Yes! Yawgmoth's Agenda is a lynchpin in my *Ghen, Arcanum Weaver* deck. I already run many self mill and Rule Of Law effects, and Ghen can sacc the thing when it becomes too cumbersome. EDIT: Lethal Vapors too! Ghen can sacrifice the card in response to an opponent trying to activate the self-destruct effect, and their turn is still skipped. Diabolical.
I do have Koskun Falls, Desolation and I knew about Gate to Phyrexia (but 90€ Oo oO). Lethal Vapors is one I didn't knew about. Some clunky cards, but some really good. Honestly as a mono black player, just grab a Sword of Sinew and Steel, it's essential to answer artifacts. Nice video
I made rakdos chaotic enchantments using ur red enchantment video. Time to update it!! Funny cards I used that were black, was endless whisper and a sorcery that basically made two players take eachothers next turn.
Hecatomb won me alot of games in the 90s Ran it with Sengir Autocrat and Breeding Pit back then. Also had a Lord of the Pit thanks to all the sac fodder
Endless Whispers and seems like it might be decent in Jon Irenicus. Yet another way to exchange control of your creatures. Seems good! Never seen it before. Season of the Witch would also work in some kind of goad deck. It actually seems like it would be one of the more powerful cards in the deck if you build it right.
Thank you for unique content. Please keep on adding the estimated secondary market price value around these cards, it was a good way to actually see if they are worth aquiring 😅
Hecatomb is such a fun card to play around. Seedborn Muse + Urborg + Hecatomb = good time. You can also play Hecatomb as a one-time 'burn spell' by not to sacrificing.
Lethal Vapors works really well with indestructible commanders. Some good fits would Athreos God of Passage, Mogis God of Slaughter, and Zur Eternal Schemer. With Zur, if you're playing enchantments and making them creatures, they get around the etb destruction.
In a donate deck, (typically Rakdos Xancha or Blim), there is a great enchantment that is so aggressively bad that it pretty much destroys an opponent. It's called Oath of Lim-Dul and it has a lich effect (you must sacrifice another permanent--including lands--or discard for each 1 life you lose, but you can pay BB to draw a card). Donate this to an opponent who can't generate black, and it's just the worst curse in the game which will gradually force them to sacrifice all of their permanents except the Oath, which can't sacrifice itself. It actually has one of the most dispiriting total locks I have managed on an opponent with Underworld Dreams, as every time the opponent draws, they lose a life and must discard it. You just clear their board and prevent any recovery. The same deck runs other things like Demonic Pact, which similarly disrupt an opponent.
Just started the video and already started thinking of some. Necropotence, No Mercy, Grave Pact/Dictate of Erebos. I know these are pretty mainstream, but they're all very effective in edh.
I would also mention: Mortuary which is pretty unique. Works well in Nalia de'Arnise types of decks. Death Pit Offering if you could play before playing creatures or maybe you want to sacrifice them anyway. Spreading Plague + Darkest Hour can be very annoying to play against.
i use hecatomb on my 5 color landtype maters deck. (5 color cause i love last stand) there are so many interesting effects and thanks to green you have a lot of effects that ad basic land/ or all landtype. that theme is completely fine just by being green/black. there are enough landfalls but also alot that say for each forest get token creatures and with black you can double/tripple mana and do the damage/drain/lifelose. also strands of night is a unice black enchantment that works well if you can use lands from graveyard. find a way to sac a creature that let you play additional lands and have at least one swamp doubler and you get endless without doing anything (if you get at least 3 mana from a land you have endless mana^^) red has the fewest effects, so its not needed. white has the most swamp hate cards, but for each player. and blue carddraw is so good, you mostly can ignore the landtype carddraw effects, but i wanna metion there are also cards like realmwright, or stormtide leviathan to add colors and Flooded Shoreline to bounce lands/go endless??? (btw there are more bounce your lands effects so you can technically save lands without needing a grave)
Another way to abuse lethal vapors: cast teferis protection, activate vapors 1000000 times all while holding priority. Add a grand abolisher effect and it will win you the game unless someone has a shuffle effect to prevent decking themselves, but less experienced players will often forget that they can also just activate it a bunch of times in response to you doing it.
Endless whispers: Have the Leyline that makes you Hexproof and fractured identity it to your opponents. Then board wipe. You’re now the only person that can be chosen to give the creatures too
Great cards. I have most of the cards in my mono black enchantment deck from which I got an inspiration from Jumbo Commander. It's a grind type of game and make your opponents salty and pissed. Its also a deck that I hardly win so I seldom play. The spells are costly and have no evasion. I have to wipe the board 4 times to win by opponents giving up and calling the day.
I used to use Hecatomb in a green/black deck with Night Soil, essentially making my opponents pay the sacrifice cost.i still use Lethal Vapors in my Sophie's Choice Deck. It's fun to make your opponents choose between 2 bad options.
8:45 [Season of the witch] basically attack or lose your creatures. Add [Revenge of ravens] so them attacking causes them to lose life. Now, it's attacking me causes you to lose life while I gain life. However if you don't attack you lose your creatures
I got a copy of Yawgmoth's Agenda to put in my Yawgmoth themed deck, but I often found that by the time it was useful it was too late to really matter. Great if you already have a Rule of Law effect tho!
I can see Hecatomb working well in a Shirei deck. So long as what you sacrifice has power one or less, they would return to the battlefield on the next end step.
One of my favorite black enchantments from back in the day is Last Laugh. 2BB cost. "Whenever a permanent other than Last Laugh is put ibyi the graveyard from play, Last Laugh deals 1 damage to each creature and Player. When no creatures are in play, sacrifice Last Laugh." Put this in an aristocrats deck and watch the fireworks. Oh, but make sure you have an Exquisite Blood like effect to mitigate your own life loss, as Last Laugh hits you too.
Hecatomb would be amazing in my Moldrotha deck. The amount of search, ramp, board control the deck would make getting both it and Urborg on the field pretty easy.
I've used Yawgmoth's Agenda in my Korvold deck for years. I can replay all my sac lands, and recast all the sacced creatures and permanents. And if the very same Yawgmoth's Agenda becomes annoying for what I'm trying to do... I can sac it with Korvold. ;-)
I run Gate to Phyrexia in my Yawgmoth deck. It's mostly aristocrats, so the sacrifice is inconsequential and I think it's pretty flavorful for the deck. Desolation I have in my Zur lockdown deck as another way to Stax people out while I kill them with commander damage. Lethal Vapors I have in my Nicol Bolas Superfriends deck because it barely runs any creatures and it pulls a lot of weight to protect my board.
Yawgmoth’s Agenda was mostly used for playing 2 cards a turn. You would play a card during your turn, then play an instant card from your graveyard during your opponent’s turn, like a counterspell or destruction spell. I’ve never had it out but I’ve seen other people play it.
Hecatomb is a HOUSE in my Shirei, Shizo's Caretaker deck. Mono Black and I want creatures going into the graveyard, I get them all back, and they all have ETBs, LTBs and/or Dies triggers, or activate other value engines.
Hecatomb has a pretty solid combo with Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth and Kormus Bell. Sure, board wipes get a bit rough, but that's for everybody. And pinging everybody's else's lands down is pretty effective.
Gate to phyrexia can be really helpful in mono-black or black primary decks with removal. If you pair it with either liquimetal coating or torque then you can target anything. Which is great considering black is terribly weak for targeted artifact and enchantment removal.
I used to run Phyrexian Reclamation in my Muldrotha deck. Costs a single B to play with, "1B, pay 2 life: Return target creature card from your graveyard to your hand." I play a lot of kill-on-sight creatures, so it definitely gives me another chance to keep my creatures on the field in a deck where I don't really care if things die.
There is an entire selection of cards that have combo shutdown potential and should be included as a possible drawn and or tutor I remember just including a ancient runes in a mono red deck and having it strait with. Me a few games the first card feels like it could shut off so man combos
Hecatomv would be AMAZING in a grixis deck with Urborg and a Gherson Starn Kelermorph on the field. Each tap could ping for 3 and do some serious damage
I'd suggest No Mercy, since WOTC finally reprinted it so it is reasonably priced, to have an effect that states ''Whenever a creature deals damage to you, destroy it''. I use No Mercy in my Group Slug Mogis deck, Rakdos Enchantment/MLD is hilarious no one expects that the finale is mass land destruction followed by a ''cage match'' with Mogis, horrible enchantments and no lands but in true Rakdos fashion sometimes the enchantments kill me instead LOL :P
I had Desolation in my Obeka deck. Really cool way to control the board, really good way to get focused until you're sitting there playing Arena on your phone, watching everyone else play commander. There's a reason some of these don't see play... As the caster, you won't be playing that game much longer after casting it, you either win for sure or become the main target.
Not sure how often you check older video comments but I think hecatomb works great in my Beledros deck since I can untap my lands and sac my pest tokens
Yawgmoth's Agenda doesn't see play because it has two major downsides for only one minor upside. Being able to play cards from your graveyard is great, but you can only cast one spell per turn from _anywhere,_ and if any card would be put into your graveyard from _anywhere_ it gets exiled instead. Considering exile is the most permanent form of resource loss, the downsides far outweigh the upsides. Endless Whispers seems fun at first glance, but just like all other "chaos" cards it just pointlessly makes the game take longer and greatly increases the logistics and mental upkeep of the game for practically zero gain. Season of the Witch is actually a rules nightmare. It says to destroy anything that _could have_ attacked but didn't, so what happens if someone has Silent Arbiter? Every creature _could_ have attacked before the declare attackers step, but then no longer could have after, so are they all destroyed or not? What about if someone has a Norn's Annex and you only have enough life and/or mana to pay for some of your creatures? Some _could_ have attacked, but not others, but you were in control of which could and couldn't, but they all theoretically could have.
Don't be that guy...don't be that guy...don't be that guy...damn it all, I'm gonna be that guy! Demo you spelt "Normally" with TWO M's! LMAO 😵💫 But in all seriousness I love that haunting winds artifact hate, may have to look into acquiring one of those for my mono black deck.
In a Rakdos deck, could Hecatomb, Urborg and Torbran make all your Mountains ping for 3 dmg instead? The mountains are also Swamps, they still count as either red or black and with the Ping effect they are a red/black damage source? Would this work?
