The reason the pilots weren’t really panicking during the crash was because they are 160th SOAR pilots. They are Army special operations pilots who are called “night stalkers” and are some of the best pilots in the world. Also the reason you stay off the walls is because if a bullet ricochets on a flat surface like a wall then it will travel along that wall and hit you if you’re leaning on it.
@Kosh800
@Kosh800 2 года назад
Most military pilots are going to be like that. Hell most professional commercial pilots are like that. Pilots are trained to stay calm when shit goes sideways and depend on your training. It's why we have check lists, why we constantly practice emergency procedures, why we have to stay current on everything we can. We're responsible for every single person on that aircraft, and in the case of the military also the mission itself.
@Fergus_0703

basically, most if not all pilots (civilian or military) are trained to be calm in times like this.

@@Kosh800 not to take anything away from your service/ abilities. But SOAR pilots are the best of the best. It has been recorded and hypothesized that Elvis Wolcott intentionally dipped his bird at the last minute nose down to try and save the lives of the rest of the crew. If I'm not mistaken there is a transcript of either him or Pilot Mike Durant in which you can clearly hear them, after being hit by RPG fire sounding calm and relaxed as they go through their checklist pre-crash. Again not to take away from any other pilot, but the SOAR guys are, without a shadow of a doubt, the best helicopter pilots in the world and thus would sound calm and collected as they were being shot down.
@ryckarduhryckarduh180
@ryckarduhryckarduh180 2 года назад
Generally pilots know your IQ drops if you panick, being calm is the only way to keep your mind sharp. Thats why pilots and astronauts always sound bored in audios before crashing and stuff

@@austinphillips4673 Nothing about the elite SOAR units goes against what I said. She said that they were calm, you said it's because they were SOAR, and I simply said that it's because all pilots are trained to be calm like that.That sort of reaction isn't exclusive to elite SOAR units. It's common amongst most pilots.

Several times Gordon call on the radio asking where was the convoy. Unfortunately, the convoy got lost and while trying to find a route to Super 64 site, they met with McKnight's convoy and helped them get back to base. The opening scene was showing international aid being dropped for the starving people and Aidids men showed up and took it by force. They knew Americans couldn't fire on them unless they fired first and used the peacekeeping ROE's to their advantage. Its similar to tactics used by the Taliban to avoid gunships and drone strikes. A Taliban fighter could literally be shooting at you and simply drop his rifle and raise his arms in the air until the gunship passes. There are recorded cases of gunships hovering high up waiting for fighters to pick their weapons back up in order to engage them.
@phillydelphia8760
@phillydelphia8760 2 года назад
I'll add on that, some of the veterans have stated in regards to that scene. That if they had even seen a technical (or any crew served weapon) they would have opened fire on it regardless. The Somalis knew this too, as in actuality, none have been reported as being seen active during the majority of their deployment. The scene works perfectly for the movie though in getting the point across.

@@phillydelphia8760 True, but it was not just Marine Air that was active, but boots on the ground with some armor patrolling and cleaning out weapons caches and fighters. That was why the warlords decided to hide out. But their efforts was done during Bush Sr. Admin. Corrupt Clinton installed "rules of engagement policies" that were idiotic, as shown in the first scenes. That was why the warlords went back into business. Bin Laden was in the Sudan, and committed his forces to help. Many of the more serious attacks using IED's and RPGs were his people. That led up to the Blackhawk down events as Garrison was told to "catch the criminals". My book Fatal Flaws Book 3 1975-Sept. 11, 2001 goes into detail on that time.

The reason the Delta operator tells Grimes to stay away from the walls isn't actually because of rockets and explosions. It is because a bullet can strike the wall at an angle and ricochet, following parallel to the wall 1 or 2 feet away and still carry enough force to be lethal. Colonel McKnight basically resolved himself to act like a British officer on the field, not ducking or dodging gunfire, as a result his men saw him very much as a godlike savior with how much confidence he portrayed.

So there's no such thing as bulletproof, this is something you've heard in movie cinema or potentially heard of while playing video games yea. In reality there's bullet resistance meaning they' can absorb lots of rounds however we make different ammo types for a particular reason and why we make AP rounds at well. It's also worth mentioning how armor durability functions. Distance is highly important when referring to armor effectiveness and even weapon effectiveness.

At the beginning of this reaction your girl Hannah was commenting about all of the little things the US military had at the base in Mogadishu. Much of this infrastructure was a logistical necessity for a modern military for operate in remote areas. Still the creature comforts were necessary to help with moral of the service members. We always have the little creature comforts of home whenever we get deployed. Again to keep moral high. It was usually far and above what the local pop had. The US military is very large with enormous capabilities to ship things around the world. Some large remote bases had things flown in every day. Smaller bases had less but it was still amazing to see. Camp Liberty in Iraq had Pizza Hut, Burger King, Subway, Popeye's Fried Chicken, and Taco Bell. There was also a huge PX (Post Exchange), that had every thing a large department store had.

I know a guy who was repairing coolant pump in an APC - the pump is located beneath the floor-plate at the rear door of the vehicle. He was using the rear door as cover and had placed his tool box on the floor at his feet. Half way through the job, a stray round hit the deck next to his tool box, bounced up, struck the tool box and ricocheted off of it. The bullet, now "tumbling" and having become very badly deformed, hit him square in the bollocks. The damage was...extensive. Oh, and he was nicknamed "Nutsack Nick" for the remainder of his career.

Watching this movie is hard for me because I met several of the guys who went through it and man, the things they saw were incredibly brutal. Before the incident, during it, and after. That place was a no win situation. You can't feed a bunch of starving people and fight a bunch of warlords Kotted up army who dont fear death while on that drug and at the same time who use the people you are feeding as target practice and as human shields both. I'm thankful I never went to that shit hole of Somalia. I did go to Afghanistan and did my duty but I am so thankful I didn't have to take a bite of that shit sandwich, but if my friends were there fighting, I would have been shoulder to shoulder no matter if we are in Somalia, Ghana, or hell itself. If any other vet is watching this with our crew of Ash and Hannah, thank you for your service brothers and sisters. God bless you all. The Warlord didn't bring the food. The United Nations had brought it and paid that truck driver and crew to deliver it to hand out, but the starving people were fighting for it, but the warlord's general was also sent to kill anyone taking aid from the U.N. I hope this clears it up. The guy on the gun shooting civilians was NOT the ones who brought the food. Peacekeepers did from the U.N. Also, you stay away from walls because bullets have a nasty habit of hitting walls and then traveling parallel down them and if you are leaning on the wall, the bullet will hit you. I deployed into the horn of Africa in Ethiopia (granted close to twenty years later) but America is known for its mobilization/logistics/supply capacity. It is simply unparalleled amongst modern militaries. It isn't that other countries can't supply their forces with what they need, they just can't do it en masse like the USA can. We had electricity when some parts of Dire Dawa didn't, because we brought two HUGE generators over to supply our camp with electricity. When they purchased our camp they bought (and then resold) a complex from a guy who owned the land there. So it had a few hard buildings, but we mostly stayed in clamshell tents that had AC. We also brought a water storage container so we would have water to drink/shower from, as well as an enclosed trailer that were the showers. Internet was very suspect there, we had to rely on satellites (and then in the middle of the night if anybody was up they could use the internet to call home), but we occasionally had it as well. Also, people have the idea in their head that Africa is dirt poor everywhere. And there are some places that are dirt poor with people living in thatched houses, but if you let a place develop and it isn't ransacked by war, it is also a place that can be surprisingly modern. Most likely the US set up camp in a place that was one of those modern places before the civil war. I think it was an airport, but I can't remember off the top of my head.
