Tunago my dads a cop and the reason cops never live in the city is so the suspect does not find where the cop lives and either tries to harm there family or the cop also I agree that there are bad cops and it's growing but my dad and the department he works for are not bad people and my friends dad was a cop and he was nice it's not just because I'm white because my dad grew up with black and mixed people and was in the military so he's seen there life and if has its differences. I don't hate black,brown,mixed sadly some people do and I think some police hate black people becuase some of this happens in the southern states where they hated black people. I appreciate the fact that this video had a number of dynamic opinions about the police. What broke my heart was the fact the the younger boys saw the police as these wonderful protectors and as the age progressed, the definitions became a lot more negative. So what are we as a society supposed to do?
@tomogaso
@tomogaso 9 лет назад
The kids are less negative because they are too young to be arrested.
@solargeknowles4354
@solargeknowles4354 9 лет назад
For me, it was heartbreaking too but not at all shocking or surprising. It goes back to innocence and youth. It reminds me of W.E.B Du Bois' chapter "of the passing of the first-born" from his book "The Souls of Black Folk", was that he was extremely sad but relieved that his son didn't have to grow up to realize he was a black man. In my class the white people were like "OMG, that was so sad, I could never" and I said "Well, this is what it is like for us (black people) till this day"
@KingMeeqs
@KingMeeqs 9 лет назад
***** The kids are less negative because they're less ignorant at such a young age. The black men in the video recall a few incidents regarding police brutality, generalize the entire police force and forget all about the millions of other officers that sacrifice themselves to protect the community.

Instead of judging try putting yourself in the shoes of others and try to figure out why that might have that perspective. Many of these men are talking from first hand experiences where someone close to them had been killed or hurt by a police officer. I feel like a lot of people look at this video and only think about the age and about the events right now. The Black males who are older have not only dealt with the hardships that are facing minorities now a days, but have been through true and real racism and have seen more hate, disrespect, and injustice then any Black male can today. They are going to of course have different viewpoints of the Police then people of a younger generation. This is a good video, but don't watch it and only see the age difference and think of the times now, but think about the past and how much more hate and injustice these men have seen. Things were not even close to as good as they were 30-50 years ago and there is still a lot of progress that needs to be done.

@mike414993
@mike414993 9 лет назад
lucy stein That is such a good thing to hear and I am happy to hear that we are getting to the point where that does not happen. I know some day we can get to that point where no one Black, White, Hispanic, Asian, etc experiences racism of any kind. It just takes time and hard work and I know we can get there.
@mike414993
@mike414993 9 лет назад
When I talk about true racism I mean when it was more common, where if a Black male looked at a white female or male in a wrong way they could be hung and dragged through out the street and that was for any Black male. Now a days there are Black people who have never experienced racism at all. I am not saying Black people today do not face racism to me it just does not to seem to be as bad, harsh, or often as it was back then at least usually it is not. I was not saying their definition of racism is different, which like you said probably is, but their viewpoints on police is because in any society police are usually the one who enforce what the majority of society wants. not all, but most police do that.
@mike414993
@mike414993 9 лет назад
***** Racism has not always been around. It has been around for a long time, but not always. Also it is not naive because I have had Black individuals tell me they have never experienced racism. If they have not clearly been treated different due to the fact of their skin then that have not experienced racism. I would never say no Black person had ever experienced racism, but we have gotten to the point where there are ones who have not experienced it.

Thank you Cut Video for opening a dialogue that is very difficult to discuss. Moreover, getting people from opposing views to share their individual beliefs and experiences. I recently came across this startling data while researching the topic: 2014: - Number of people killed by police officers: 1000 or over (does not include cases deemed justifiable) - Number of police officers killed in the line of duty: 54 (assault , gunfire, or vehicular assault) 2013: - Number of people killed by police officers: around 1200 (does not include cases deemed justifiable) - Number of police officers killed in the line of duty: 43 (assault , gunfire, or vehicular assault) I do not believe that a single party is to blame for the escalating conflict. I do believe that open discussions like this will help close the vast seperation between people's views and help come up with solutions for a very serious problem. Hopefully soon, people can put aside their differences and realize that the loss of ANY innocent life is unacceptable. My prayers go out to all the families that have unjustly lost loved ones; and also to the families of the officers that were killed in the line of duty.

well whoever made these need to make more if you dont realize this kinda video is the type of thing to start a movement if more people see this maybe we can make even a small change in this world and its no just blacks getting discriminated againstmatter of fact its not even discrimination to race people are so seperated today that we look for differences in people just to give us an excuse to stay in out little bubbles people need to expand and educate themselves before they go judging others

Tim Gagne Agreed. There also needs to be some underlying education about what community means in general. I don't know how to go about this but I think that every city in every country could benefit from a good look at how their communities work. There are some countries in the world where towns/cities are given prizes for the cleanliness / tidiness of the town over a year. Nice concept but superficial. Maybe some sort of prize for the best community would be nice to see.

The US justice system agrees with you.
@mickles1975
@mickles1975 9 лет назад
"They" refers to everybody. I agree with you that there is certainly a racism problem within the US justice system but assuming a "counter-racist" attitude doesn't counter the problem, it only exacerbates it. "If it's ok for that black guy to be racist, why is it wrong for a white guy like me to be racist" Arguments like that are what come from it.
@zahrai1235
@zahrai1235 9 лет назад
the Issue is about how White people are treated respectively and Black people are treated with Suspicion and are portrayed as villainous. So yeah "his" people meaning black people are being killed with Impunity. when you deal with the same trails of injustice and racism as his people do, you can class yourselves together
@tomogaso
@tomogaso 9 лет назад
mickles1975 I'd say cops getting only 6 months of training and judges getting to do whatever they please is a bigger problem than a "counter-racist" attitude.

I've been robbed 4 times in my home and on the streets in Walnut Creek and San Mateo and Oakland CA, guess what they all had in common? One attempted theft was by 4 little black boys about 9 years old who took a glass cutter and cut a big hole in my front window trying to break in - in the middle of a Sunday afternoon!!!!!. I saw them running away. A black neighbor cutting his front lawn said he saw nothing. The little thugs came back later and cleaned me out!! Anybody have a problem with me carrying a gun?!!

You know what's the biggest cause of crime? *Poverty* Now look at poverty rates in the US for black people. *The fact that it was black kids was because of muricas fucked up racist goverment, not "black culture"*. People lie, statistics don't. In the US: -there are 3 times more black prisoners in jail than white ones -blacks are 7 times more likely to be incarcerated for drugs (with similar use rates) -blacks get 20% longer sentences on average for similar crimes *That's* why you had black kids on your door. I rest my case.

oh fuck off, i highly doubt a fucking nine year old would be able to steal glass cutters and be able to use it perfectly on your glass, and maybe the guy didn't actually see anything. what do you think he is just going to be looking at your house 24/7 remember its like a game or even real life or a movie a man can pass right next to you but if you move at the right time you can miss them exactly.

It’s important to contextualize. If a black man grows up in the ghettos during the 1960’s then he will detest the police and what they stand for. If a black man grows up in the ghettos during the 2010’s with gangster culture then he will detest the police and what they stand for. If a black man grows up in the ghettos during the 2010’s with a culture that values respect and responsibility then he will appreciate the police and what they stand for. Culture and time play a huge role into the way we perceive others Times have changed. Now it’s time that our cultures do so too.

@timbo4356

I think this is a great video that shows that there is difference in opinion within the "black community." I think that media outlets like to generalize what the "black community" thinks and a lot of times they make it sound like "every black person thinks 'this' way," while in reality, it is a diverse community with diverse ideas and opinions. It's good to see a video that shows that not everyone thinks about these topics the same way, not painting them to look like they are all radical people.
