Canada has a flourishing rock and psych rock scene these days.....love this band and their music. They sound like Hawkwind meets Coven via Blood Ceremony on a dark psychedelic nite.
I wondered from this vid, but enjoyed them a lot last night at the Independent on Divisadero. Very nice live. The bass and Amber's voice mixed better than here, and they were 4 years more polished, of course. Warm-up: Marissa Nadler in a half-hour Mazzy Star-ish set.
This music unfolds like a picture book full of stars, where birds come chirping, spinning farandoles, cracking rattles and dancing wizards. From rounds to nursery rhymes, the arrangements display their mystery, the songs fill with fervor and the instruments have the roundness and brilliance of chimes 🌺🕊️
I think he probably said that because of how the keyboardist is really the only one doing anything at first, while the other members just kinda stand around and look at the audience.
IT IS CLOSE to Amon Duul and to Neu, but it is also close to some pieces of Pink Floyd, Live in Pompei of 1972, for me, listen to it . Very beautiful music, anyway !
Don't suppose they can be blamed for the environment they have to play in, but if the experience is meant to be primarily auditory and there isn't the visuals to back it up, then why not just dark out entirely? Hasn't the Vimeo and RU-vid generation ever heard of black boxes for live theater? What about smoke machines for example, or are they too political incorrect these days? So the only sanctioned drama is to be experienced virtually, via CGI and computer games is it? As awkward as a high school talent contest.
just because you close your eyes, doesn't mean the world goes away. But the trick is not letting that realization weaken the experience either . I suspect some amount of taking calculated dives is involved here. How UN-rock and roll is that!
