I do want to add that people ought not prostrate themselves at the feet of those they deem "oppressed" out of some misapplied guilt. That's the most illiberal thing I can think of: reducing yourself and diminishing yourself to appease a group and only seeing the group, not the individuals within the group as individuals. Me, personally, I need to constantly challenge and control my heuristics and schemas regarding other races (I'm white) because I know I have the ability to be a nihilistic asshole. I have countered this by choosing to see the best in people and give them the benefit of the doubt when I meet them. This is not easy. And I'm not looking for social brownie points or a pat on the back in including this anecdote. Hopefully some of this will land on anyone reading this and they'll learn greater levels of self-control that is directly applicable to their own experiences and personalities.

Absolutely. Everyone needs to be accountable for their own actions. This isn't just a white persons problem to fix. Start with yourself first. Life is not fair all the time. I dont owe anybody anything for being white and I'm not going to apologise for it, but I will accept my privelidge and the role I have in uplifting and advocating for the voices who arent heard in society. Do not give your power away by accepting a common perception of you. Be better than that. All black lives matter. Not just the ones killed by whites, but the ones killed by their own race too. Start at home. We all need to do better and not accept bull or hypocrisy. Listen and learn, accept hard truths, and then do better.

@@amyzing8775 Agreed. But remember no race has a monopoly on privilege. Different kinds of varying degrees exist which are more or less advantageous depending on context. Yes, whites are given lighter sentences and the benefit of the doubt more legally (which has logical reasons based on statistics and the survival instinct), but being white doesn't automatically mean your life is a cakewalk. I imagine a white man in West Virginia whose entire family is addicted to meth and he was born out of wedlock doesn't feel particularly privileged when he sees a black man who is a lawyer making 6 figures a year. And as a white man, I have to be incredibly careful that I not offend someone of a different race or a female because in the court of public opinion, I'm guilty until I'm proven innocent and I do not possess the material resources to prove my innocence.

Yup. I agree also. People don't communicate anymore. All I hear is lecture, condemnation, hate , anger and bitterness. Anyone having this directed at themselves just shut down. They don't want to listen to a one way conversation since their not allowed to really take part in it anyway. If we just treated each other the way we want to be treated, things would change. The word liberal has really lost it's meaning. The left expects everyone to listen to them but they refuse to listen to anyone who has a different opinion or is on the other side of politics. The only way to change someone's mind is to listen and have a civil and respectful discussion with that person or group. If you throw labels and insults and expect that person or group to change their mind that way you're dead wrong, most likely if you insult and try to silence someone they're either 1. Say they agree with you because they don't want conflict or 2. They'll be pushed further to the other side

When George Floyd was killed and protests have just begun everyone on the left agreed that it was wrong and that something has to be done but when riots started and more and more videos where innocent people are getting hurt, where their homes and businesses are getting burned down, some people felt bad for them too so they started saying that riots are might not the best solution.. What happened next is exactly what I'm talking about. They received such a negative backlash.. People started saying that they don't feel for George, that they are protecting racists even calling them directly racist.. 2nd example I use more often.. Labeling people like Dave Rubin "secretly conservatives".. In general people on the left have said that Dave is only pretending to be on the left to push right wing ideas.. Which is basically untrue.. Dave is for gay marriage, pro-choice, for legalizing pot, against death penalty.. Those are all left wing ideas.. However he he doesn't believe identity politics to be such a good idea. He doesn't think political correctness and cancel culture is a good idea.. So I guess that's the biggest problem with the left.. If you don't agree with them 100% they are coming after you.. And I don't think that can work.. I don't think you can have large group of people with 1 mindset..

Why were laws for the longest time on the books before and during the civil rights era, that if a black man laid with a white woman he was guilty of death with no appeal? Because people are flawed. It doesn't mean they are right, or that what they did should be overlooked, nor does their flawed nature excuse them of wrongdoing. Absent mindedness is no excuse. Tupac grew up very intelligent, very self aware, very socially aware, very about helping society, the one wrong move he made was to get caught up in some gang stuff in Vegas.

Sometimes they're right, sometimes they're wrong, and most of the time you need to look at several to get somewhere near the truth. The truth, in my opinion, is that the division between men and women actually heavily influences couples and marriages in a negative way, which has clearly resulted in generations being raised in less than ideal circumstances. All the studies as a whole, show that good parents in a strong relationship raise the most level-headed and productive children with a very small total of exceptions. I think the whole "battle of the sexes" degrades society through relationships and the potential to raise strong children suffers because of it.
