Black Powder ACW Epic Battles, Hype or Hope? 

I was a big miniatures gamer years ago and got out of all gaming for a while. I have recently been rebuilding my board game collection and have started looking at getting back into miniatures. This looks like a great way to get started in ACW again. Thanks for the video.

Thank you for your thoughts! I have the set and waiting for a decent chance to get it built. I remember one of the Warlord monday videos here on YT addressing the price difference for waves 2 and 3; IIRC they were expecting lower volumes on those products so they are made in resin rather than plastic, so definitely maintaining their profit margins with waves 2 and 3.

Thank you for a good review of this boxed set and although I might quiblle in detaiuls, for the most part you are spot on. The old seasoned ACW gamer will likely not buy this, simply because they already have their armies - these are also likley to be the ones carping about detail and size comparisons - nor is it there for the "painter" wargamer, so you are right it is aimd ast people wanted to try a new wargames period or even just tip their toes into miniature gaming. I am currently painting my stuff up, but if you do not want to why bother . Price wise this starter box is dirt cheap if you consider the cost per figure compared to other 10/12/15mm miniature lines, albeit they are in lead. I was a doubter but even the cost of the add on boxes is reasonable , although I am adding some Kallistra and peter Pig minis to get variety - I actually use the Kallistra cavalry mounted/dismounted for this very reason As for the future, I think this was a test to see if there was an appetite for this scale, it appears there is. That being so I think another line will be produced but not Napoleonic - too much variety. I am guessing at 7 years war, simply because the bulk of troops are fairly generic, however this time around I think they will have a mix of all three arms - infantry, cavalry and artillery- in the starter. Probably enough for a taster that leads to more buys for bigger battles - the GW or Warlord model. Note that comaptible 3d printed files are out there, principally Eskice, but cost wise there is not that much in it except with a printer you can tailor your army a little easier

Good honest review, I would be interested if I didn’t already have two huge 6mm armies fully painted.

When the price of armies gets to be greater than a 4k printer and associated cost the end gets nearer for cast miniatures.... tabletop simulator is another contender for those that don’t need “paint therapy.” Another example of Toffler’s message of Future Shock. All we can do is adapt....
