Captain Marvel is a villain. So its not really the first solo superhero movie of Marvel in the MCU. She will drift to the dark side like the movie already setted in some way. In real life she already is. Her character has no real motivation and she is crueless. She becomes a bad enemy. As second stronges character in the MCU.
I think it is mainly about character's background Black Widow is a cold war product, not belongs to today or even the US despite the fact that she is an American comic book character. While she usually reflected American prejudices and fears about communism, the Soviet Union, KGB, Russia etc the character as a relentless and problematic former Soviet spy has nothing to do with gender issues, current political correctness nor SJW's. Writers cannot force a character who is simply completely out of context. You could not have those issues in the Soviet Union as all these stuff was pretty much out of context and out paced by a totalitarian Leninist ideology which sees no distinction between "men or women" comrades unless they are straight, not capitalistic or corrupted! Yes homophobic against non straights but partriarchal society or any feminist monologues? Gender based discrimination? Hell no. This type of discrimination was against communism, it was against Soviet Russian culture where women have huge roles and where Widow originated from, so it looks very weird if she shows feminism because she never ever has seen this kind of a political junk before. You cannot made a feminist out of a seductive former KGB spy with death seriousness and conscience / loneliness issues. The core character itself is more interesting than this political gender focused bullshit.
Cheater Romanoff the reason people want a Black Widow film is because she's a character with interesting traits and flaws and a badass origin story. Captain Marvel is just Space Jesus.
Being serious, you know former head of Marvel Entertainment Ike Perlmutter literally believed (and still does) that a superhero movie without a white male lead won't sell? That's why it took so long to get much diversity into the franchise in the first place. As for why Captain Marvel came out first, it's probably because Larson was coming off of an Oscar win while ScarJo was coming off of a massive box-office flop and has generally become a very controversial figure due to some horribly misguided comments.
@RobMacRay gha who cares what the real fans of the Marvel movies think... I am only acting for the .0001% who might decide to see the movie because vagina!
@WinterHell Larson is an accomplished actress. She won an Oscar for best actress. You don't have to agree with her politics but she is a very good actress. The issue is Captain Marvel has the Superman delima. Marvel is an OP character with no real weaknesses or reason to fear anything. In the comics Marvel is basically able to go toe to toe with Thanos, one of few. How do you write anything of note for a character like that? Nobody is ever going to think she is in danger because we know she is more powerful then anything she faces. They could have put someone who didn't have devicive politics and the movie would have the same exact issue.
@@MrDeath1458 yep. Captain Marvel is able to go toe to toe with Thanos. good thing she was in End Games to defeat......oh wait, she didn't defeat Thanos. The mortal human Tony Stark killed him. What was Captain Marvel's roll again?

Yah the fact that we pretty much know who dies and lives before endgame removes all tension from this movie... action scenes might be cool to look at but with no tension whatsoever.
Imagine how much more meaningful Black Widow's sacrifice would've been if they made her movie instead of Capitain Marvel and explored her friendship with Hawkeye and her backstory.
@@TOA57Y ngl if she is still alive thats kinda annoying, because when a film company kills off a character it's pretty cheap to just say "well it was her sister the whole time"
SJWs: Unacceptable choose another female heroine that could go toe to toe with Thanos. * Now they'll have to choose CM* Marvel Fans: Wanda Maximoff/Scarlett Witch SJWs: Rreeeeee
@@normadgarmez7026 Lol The funny thing is, Scarlet Witch would rip Carol Danvers to pieces without breaking a sweat if she went all out. And that's even WITH the MCU's nerfing of her powers (which is one sided, as they didn't nerf Carol really, but at least so far Wanda has been heavily nerfed).
Captain Marvel was Marvel trying to beat Wonder Woman... Was pointless, since Wonder Woman is the female icon of super heros, but they want to force us to accept that inapt character, for the sake of competition. That was the mistake of Marvel, they think it's a measure of character power, when in fact for fans, is popularity. Black Widow have no chance to beat WW, but it will go toe on toe with her, in terms of popularity, Captain Marvel, on the other hand probably has power enough to defeat WW, but doesn't have the same popularit, in fact, she is a nobody.
They should have made this first instead of Captain marvel, they should have saved her movie for later. That actually would have been a perfect time to release this movie, as it was right in the middle of the hype train, and would have been a great time to make a movie about a underrated character like her. She would finally get the recognition she deserves. THEN focus on Captain marvel.
@@markusandrew3680 I absolutely agree especially because If they made this first they would have been able to show Captain Marvel what a good movie would look like and how you write a character to be likeable. I think taskmaster is going to be a good villain even if he looks like any of the other faceless soldiers she fought. I believe they can finally write a movie with a realistic female character because it seems like people don't understand what a well written and realistic one looks like anymore. Captain Marvel just blatantly ripped off Wonder Woman and this is coming from someone who thinks WW is overrated but using Stan Lee's twitter after he died to promote it just made me done with it along with Brie Larson (Cheese Theft) coming off very obnoxious and unlikable, that scene in endgame with Thor was awful while its obviously forced and she has a huge grin on her face the entire time. Honestly they just needed to make this first and make Captain Marvel good in the first place. The fact that a human gets superpowers and then starts to act better than everyone instead of like a normal person is sad because even Vision was more human ... even how shes framed as constantly looking down on people in the movies and its tough to enjoy when the actress comes off as unlikable as the character is. Her story is exactly what would fit in an after story its like Rouge One which also had some problems so almost exactly that. It didn't matter then but can work after things were over already and Black Widow fits after Avengers best I would say or after Civil War.
@@toufiq309 could have made it better but I think the character is flawed from the start even if they still did a terrible job making it into a movie. But honestly when your main actress defends a Wrinkle in Time as a good film besides all those *WHITE* people ... there wasn't really any hope for the film for me. I think having a hero not act realistic is a problem or else you get superman acting above everyone even though he was a farm boy ... but now with marvel
DarksUper3DgeLord Toufiq I think Captain Marvel was rushed because they needed the movie to come out before Endgame, and it doesn’t help that her movie was filmed after Endgame.
"right movie, wrong time" is the most fitting title for the movie. i was just wondering when the movie finaly will come out. and here i am, watching a 7months old review.
I hate that trend in action movies. Bourne was the last Hollywood series where it looked like pain actually hurts people. But the action was ruined by that shakycam nonsense

i really like how they made her a Strong Female Badass Character, but then _also_ made her flirty and relatably female . . . like that scene where she's hanging out playing bartender in that second _Avengers_ movie. she had regular desires and wants _beyond_ being perfect and above reproach. whatever, i like her.
They actually made a strong woman character. She's a proficient fighter and a force to be reckoned with, the other Avengers treat her as an equal, but she is still a woman and they don't take that away from her. Unlike captain marvel, who's all strong and no woman.
That moment in endgame when captain plank says to spider-man “hey Peter Parker, you got something for me” I wish he’d put the middle finger up on the gauntlet before handing it over
Christ for a character you people think is boring you seem to fucking despise her, have you tried devoting that energy to something else, maybe painting?
Am I the only one NOT bothered by him being fat and having an awesome beard? Seems like an idea that could make for an interesting movie, if he's not played for cheap fat-guy laughs. Or maybe I'm just desperate for characters that are interesting and different, instead of the same old cookie cutter creatures we've been getting.
ElveeKaye i see the fat comment as a friendly jab between practically family members. It’s only because Marvel is a popular scapegoat these days that they like to jab on small things.
@@ameybirulkar7503 but now the movie is already overshadowed by other projects. The hype train is gone. They just made Black Widow more and more irrelevant.
I love that her fighting style recognizes that she cant push back against someone bigger than her, so she instead uses a style that uses their weight against them. And what's this? A properly deep character?
exactly like a 125 dude wouldnt even be able to just fling people across the room. i mean some of the female characters they write these days are a big yikes.
Right I noticed that too. Her choreography uses finesse and momentum instead of acting like a woman of her stature could dispatch men with brute force.
This should have come out before endgame. If it had, the scene with the soul stone would have been even more heartwrenching, having known of her life before the avengers, knowing why she would put her life on the line when her training said to not. Disappointing, I'll be waiting for the DVD, since there's little reason to watch this in theatres.
Still, not interested. ScarJo always gives interviews where she's pissed because the mcu oversexualized her character. You don't want to be a misogynist by paying for this movie, do you?
UserName UserLastname How was she oversexualized? If wearing skintight, yet NOT revealing outfits and just BEING feminine is what Hollywood deems oversexualized, then it’s no wonder Hollywood is a joke anymore.
If we’re going by entertainment value, awful is great be cause you can at least laugh at it. There’s just nothing in captain marvel, which makes it awful because it fails to entertain.
I was gonna comment that that's something the more recent cartoons do pretty well but the movies never seem to approach aside from some token nod to it in the first Avengers' movie. Done right...you're never entirely sure as a reader where here loyalties lie or who she's ultimately working with / for. She may seem to be helping the protags or be doing something suspicious with the villain or someone related and I think it makes her more interesting than someone who's all the time 100% good / bad.
We wanted this back in like 2013. Me and my friends wanted a black widow solo film after Iron Man 2, we thought it was a sure thing that her solo film would be one of the next few. It’s kinda late to give it to us, now.
If it had happened before Infinity War, it would have been golden, since it covers the post-civil war stuff and we wouldn't know if she was going to live or die. If it had been done before Endgame, it would've been alright timing, because it'd give us a good glimpse into the character and really add some serious weight to her death in End Game. Pushing back Captain Marvel to *after* Endgame would also helped let some of the bad PR die down some more and give the audience a better introduction to the character than Captain Marvel did. In that, she showed up being strong, because she was a character with an established backstory and only hung around the minimum. That could've actually gotten people more interested in the Marvel character, similar to how introducing Black Panther in Civil War built up hype for an otherwise fairly mediocre movie.
Isn’t it odd to give a character their own movie after they died...Ah nevermind, if it worked for JJ Abrams...I mean Rian Johnson...oh God my head hurts
@@lordofthepizzapie9319 I think this film takes place immediately following the events in Civil War. I saw someone on Reddit claim that the trailer at D23 showed that, but I dunno
This movie should have happened after winter soldier or civil war. I am still excited for it! Has a mission impossible type feel to it! This should have been MCU first female led movie, not captain marvel!
Kicknowledge Smith yeah that was a weird decision anyway considering scarlet Johansson is a much more established and all around bigger actress than Brie Larson. I feel like just from a commercial perspective she makes more sense for that role.
it's what the entire fandom wanted... back in late phase 2/early phase 3. but, this one has iron man in it! funny how these movies make fun of men at every turn now, yet still rely on them to sell tickets.
Are you still excited for it? It's been over 7 years since winter soldier came out and that would've been the best time for this movie. Now it's just more and more irrellevant.
Imagine seeing a Black Widow solo movie that made you fall in love more with her character just before having her taken away from us in Endgame. That would have had a way stronger impact in the movie than OP Captain Marvel conveniently showing up at the end of the movie. That being said, I don't necessarily think the timing is bad. Marvel can capitalize on nostalgia if they successfully add a depth to her character that give more meaning/grief to her death and land the whole Budapest joke properly.
@Soapy-kun the kind of people who become actors are the kind that really want fame and attention and we know that many of them google their own names for a boost of self-confidence or whatnot. So it wouldn't be weird for them to look up videos about them on the most popular and dominant platform in the world.
There was an Irvine Walsh ( _Trainspotting_ guy) short story about Hollywood A-listers avidly reading lifestyle magazines and watching fly-on-the-wall documentaries about the lives of working-class Glaswegians.
Thor's hammer was destroyed in Thor Ragnarok but they brought that back so they will find some way to bring her back I guess, they haven't stated if sequel or prequel but made Red Guardian look older so would assume is a sequel, Red Guardian was younger when introduced in the comics.
Well one not a fair comparison as the few complaints was " we dont want a han solo prequel as he dont need on and or disney is gonna ruin his persona as he was a smuggler, thief, essentially a bad guy cleaning him up in the prequel ruins the latter films as them he has a heart of gold rather than being a bad guy that changed cuz of the latter episodes circumstances. " Or the alternative reason y nobody saw it was to boycott SW:last jedi which was a horrible movie that destroyed the characters of both the new and old. Black widow should have been got a movie as for years we wanted it but also most of us mite be biased cuz the director is going with the clean cookie cutter deal of it as the director said she was going for a clean movie where Natasha doesnt kill or even uses guns which isnt black widow. Its the opposite of her as she is an exassassin meaning she had to kill . We don't really like this as its not the prequel we wanted. We wanted her as a spy that ends up crossing russia and joining shield and killing Russian bad guys . Maybe run into winter soldier and meet up with hawkeye in Budapest and then become a good guy. And it having an atmosphere similar to winter solider as we love that movie cuz how serious and gritty it was. This movie mite be a generic as the infinity and endgame meaning it'll be clean and have no tension.

@@chriswilson7288 Unpopular opinion: Solo movie actually made Han´s turn to the good in OT more believable. It shows he was a good person, he still is partly good person but he was turned into a cynical survivor. He gave up on trying to be good because the circumstances were bad. When he finally had a chance to do something heroic after years and help people who needed him, he did it and became the person he used to be when he was younger, just with more life experiences.
If Scarlett Johansson the "face" of the MCU for the next ten years instead of Brie Larson, and people would have been fine with that. They could have killed off Captain Marvel in Endgame and people would have been fine with that.
I'm calling it right now: One of these discount Black Widows is going to get passed the torch, so they can have a Black Widow for their future Marvel movies.
"There is a lot to be said for a character with an air of mystique about them, lending an element of ambiguity to their actions and intentions because the sad reality is that if you peel away too many layers of a mystery, you often end up with answers that are less satisfying that the question." Nick Fury: First time?!
"We can't have a strong, powerful, competent man assisting the ladies." This. This right here should prove to you their target audience isn't the ladies. What woman would be against watching a handsome suave guy helping the main female character? It's not like we have 6 billion of them in romance novels. It's as if even in this day and age, when diversity and inclusivity is shoved up our noses, they refuse to give a shred of fan service to us straight ladies. It's eye candy for lesbians and dudes as far as the eye can see even while pretending wokeness.
This is an extremely good point I never even realized before. Makes me wish we had more of it not only in the MCU but in other movies as well. Otherwise it kind of comes off as the guys not caring at all about the women 😒 (Which is somehow woke in modern Hollywood, I guess… ugh)
Iron man (billionaire, ladies man, handsome), thor (handsome, muscles, god), hulk (handsome, brains, shy), capt. America (handsome, muscles, moral), loki (handsome, bad boy, god). No eye candy for the straight ladies am i right
Here is an idea on how Nick should have lost his eye. The Black Widow movie we should have seen were she leaves Russia to join shield. Nick gets blinded by a traitor in shield. It would have to be a "prequel" like origin story for Widow to work, but I'll take it. Oh also must have Haweye.
I didn't see the Captain Marvel movie, so I found it super weird when she just showed up in Endgame and started trying to boss around the other Avengers. All the others joined the team gradually and them joining the team was shown in the previous Avengers movies. It wasn't just like origin story, oh now you're a big bad Avenger! It was origin story, then they meet the other Avengers in the next Avenger movie. Captain Marvel was sort of just thrown into the team and then they had to give her intergalactic excuses to disappear for most of the movie because having her there was weird
The problem with Captain Marvel is that the writers, director, and actress all took her character for granted. They went in with this mindset of: "we have nothing to prove" and assumed that any criticism was a product of misogyny or trolling. And, being fair, a huge chunk of it was - but not all. The thing is, they DID have something to prove. Not because Captain Marvel was a woman. But because she was a new hero, and this was her first movie. They had to prove that Captain Marvel would be a good addition to the MCU, just like every other character who came before her. They had to establish her as the formidable powerhouse that she was meant to be - someone that Nick Fury himself is afraid to call upon even in the face of world-ending threats. They had to establish her relationship with the setting and characters in a way that didn't detract from her own story or the stories of the already-established cast. And they had to make her entrance to the story feel organic. The thing is, it wasn't even unfair to place these expectations on her. Robert Downey Jr. in Iron Man was the one who kicked the MCU off the ground. The actors who played Captain America, Thor, and the Hulk had to prove that Iron Man's initial success wasn't a fluke. Then in the first Avengers movie they had to prove that they had chemistry and could work well on screen together without a single Avenger hogging the spotlight or being neglected. Everyone involved in this process worked hard for it, and for the most part did a good job barring some exceptions. You can criticize individual actors and directors, sure, but for the most part they did good work. But the people involved in creating the Captain Marvel movie failed to meet these expectations. Because they didn't try. They thought that Captain Marvel being the first female hero to have a solo movie would be enough for people to praise it anyway, and drown out all the dissent. And they introduced her at the last possible minute, and expected us to accept that she was just here the entire time, doing supposedly more important work in the background that we never see or hear about. Avengers Endgame simply wasn't her fight. She never encountered Thanos or his minions before that movie. She didn't lose anyone to the Snap. She has no personal stake in the conflict. No secondary objective that she needs to fulfill.
On one hand I'd like to see Scarlett Johansson in the MCU again, as an alternative timeline Black Widow, or some bs excuse. On the other though it would really lessen her sacrifice and honestly the new MCU phase doesn't look hot right now.
I just re-watched Winter Soldier, that filmed opened the door for a Black Widow movie on a silver platter. They should have done it as a follow up to that film. They wanted too long
cb_spock nobody wanted to make it. Which is funny given the whole “gender equality” push in Hollywood. Preaches about equality but yet takes its sweet ass time making a movie fans wanted for years.

Because Black Widow doesn't the the Civil War bump and Captain Marvel did. Also, I suspect that Black Widow will be introduced something or someone important to the conflict with the next Marvel Big Bad.

I'm one of the few who actually grew up reading and loving the Black Widow comics, and her character was so badass and she had such iconic enemies (I miss the Iron Maiden personally) that when she actually appeared in the MCU I was overjoyed, even though the character seemed a bit off, and relied more on handguns then her own far more effective widow-bites which I think I saw her use about 3 times in the movies, also nerfing it down to some kind of super-taser bracelet instead of a high explosive shot that could blow a hole in a wall (or a person) that was about my only problem. Johannsen played her as well as could be expected, and I was pretty damn happy, until.....you know. Anyway totally looking forward to this and hope it comes out soon
she hitted the wall years ago and basically killed her career when she reduced her breast. she was not an academy award actrees, atractivness was all she bring to a movie, she is old for a sex symbol, and she is not jennifer aniston Milf material, there always new and younger women borning all the time and better actreeses and milfs to see.
Watching Black Widow movie would feels like watching Solo: A Star Wars Story. We know this character's gonna die but we need to see their backstory anyway.
I have two questions about this film. One: why does Taskmaster look like a edgy blue Power Ranger? Two: if Red Guardian is meant to be the Russian equivalent to Captain America, where is his shield?
one: cuz logically, realistic spec ops are equal to dark, sometime edgy costume (according to Hollywood) two: His shield is the endless conscript who fight for mother russian
