I gotta say. I love your fresh honest no BS takes on movies and pop culture. But during the opening moments of this video you said something along the lines of “one of marvels most beloved characters…” I read thousands of comics in the 90’s during marvels heyday. Black Widow was always more of a background character. She had moments here and there sure. But was never a major player. I feel like the MCU in this day and age felt like they needed more stronger female characters and when scarlet took the role of Widow and the writers didn’t totally eff up on her character, then all of a sudden she became this major presence. That she never was… I mean in the world of Marvel and comics in general she isn’t even a true superhero. She would be classified as enhanced. Thanos could have flicked a booger at her with such speed and force that it would turn her into atoms. Let that sink in. Because in a particle accelerator a particle the size of a grain of sand colliding with another similar minute-object can create antimatter. Or At least a big effing explosion. Especially since Thanos could throw objects at around re-entry speeds.

this commet is not about how the fall is deep or what the ground is made of. It’s about mocking the stupid amounts of crazy stunts they pulling off and somehow surviving with no movements restraining injuries in Black Widow which are equal or even crazier than Furious movies.
I honestly thought that was what movie would be about, giving a more meaningful emotional loss to when you see black widow die, since it will build on the relationship between Clint and Natasha
@@toneman8478 He was mentioned after the end credits. Yelena is tasked to kill Hawkeye and that will be a plot of "Black Widow but not so much Black Widow 2" i assume.
I think the movie should have been "Hawkeye and Black Widow" where they reference Budapest through flashbacks and deal with the demons and consequences of what happened in Budapest.
@@awildsnorlax3075 Oh yeah? Well how about this, My Little Pony didn't even create toys from 1992 to 1997 in the United States, and the movie doll appears in pristine condition (as well as not existing).
@@typo691 good i don't hate ScarJo's BW, in-fact i love her this movie wasn't her fault this was woke popular culture's and the Marvel pinheads and writer's fault, have loved the human down to earth BW since 2010's I.M.2 classy fictional woman
The part that bugged me is… you’ve told us every black widow is sedated before entering and leaving to keep it secret, and they’re MIND CONTROLLED but who are all these dozens of soldiers working on the base? Do they live there permanently? How could that possibly be kept secret? Are they all mindcontrolled too? I presume not, since we’re supposed to feel no guilt about their deaths It would’ve been much better if it had just been the widows up there, but I guess they needed faceless goons to beat up.
Damn, when they hinted at Natasha having a dark past and having been turned to the good guys by Hawkeye, I was hoping to see that in a movie like Salt or Red Sparrow (and I don't even like Red Sparrow). Beats me why instead of an origin story they told a pointless spin-off side story.
Beats me why they'd bother telling either story post Endgame. Anything having to do with Black Widow is something they should have done years and years ago BEFORE killing her off. The whole movie was pointless from the beginning even if it had been an origin story. And the people running the MCU knew it, which is why they gave the movie to a bunch of unqualified nobodies with no accomplishments. They made it to bolster the number of movies with a female lead and that's it. They didn't care if it was good or not, they just cared that it had a female lead, so why not hand it off to a bunch of nobodies who will work on the cheap cheap.
The scenes where Nat and Hawkeye are dealing with the sacrifice demanded by the soul stone, are the most deep and emotional in the entire MCU, and no one in production saw a point in working with that chemistry ever again... :-(
You missed the bit about "severing the nerve" to kill Black Widow's sense of smell, with a bunch of hand gestures suggesting that there's one nerve that controls the sense of smell that for some reason runs down the middle of your forehead on the outside of your skull. The actual nerves controlling your sense of smell lie on the inside of your skull (funnily enough) and it takes major brain damage to destroy your sense of smell. If Black Widow had hit her head hard enough to sever those nerves, she'd have lost a lot more than her sense of smell... So that's two movies Scarlet Johansen has been in now where she should have been drooling on the floor.
Literally the first thing I assumed when Task Master first showed up in the film was that they were going to reveal it was *gasp* really a woman at some point towards the end of the film
They had an opportunity to make a really dark spy movie featuring Natasha. But marvel blew it with the typical whole save the world plot. It was really good in the beginning but then towards the middle I kept rolling my eyes.
I thought the beginning was a joke too. They tried to show that whole experience of a fake family and make it heartbreaking, but it was just strange and poorly timed. Overall this movie was written in the wrong theme. It should have been the Black widow version of Winter Soldier. A dark gritty drama with her learning that the program isn't over. And it also should have been more down to earth when it comes to effects, Atomic Blonde comes to mind.

Gotta hand it to Scarlette tho , she remained consistent throughout the film , she just fell victim to bad writing , still she managed carry it till the end somehow .
@R Coffee imo, this was the most illogical movie i ve seen in my entire life. She couldn't survive a fall, she survives 69420 explosions(near the bridge at night, blue car when taskmistress shoots the explosive arrow, in the red room, outside the redroom...), her sister was the most annoying thing to ever exist. Red Guardian was a logical, rational, intelligent person, who didn't get caught every goddamn time*sarcasm intensifies*, a floating castle as in fantasy/magic(cinderella, beauty and beast...) movies. Of course, they had to make all male characters either misogynist monsters or useless or bad or stupid dorks.
It should have come out way before!! Maybe after the 1st Avengers movie considering she was one of the main original cast. Captain Marvel should not have been the first female MCU superhero with her own movie when we didn't know/care about her
Phase 2 is a copy/paste of Phase 1 but with women substituted for men, and heavy feminist themes, "men are all awful" and "women are all victimized, but no more, we won't take it anymore." And all these women happen to be extremely attractive and therefore the most privileged people on the planet, so their victimhood doesn't ring quite true.
@@sup9542 exactly. People who are defending this movie should name a single male character that is either useful or not bad or not stupid. Isn't this sexism? Or reverse sexism? I wouldn't know. But reverse sexism is not the answer for sexism.

What a waste of Taskmaster as a character, antagonist or otherwise. A badass assassin with photographic memory(or some shit like that) that allows them to perfectly copy the fighting styles of those they study. I mean cmon you can’t get much more Marvel than that.
@@MrTeamFoolish Of course, Disney had Palpatine to return, just like Snoke. So it wouldn't be any surprise if they recycle Taskmaster in a similar way.
The fact the widows have to give up their ability to have children is something pretty heavy they learn to live with. In this movie it's used as a punchline when Red Guardian asks if it's their "time of the month". What. The. Fuck.
Thank you. I've seen so many people commenting how it's one of their favorite moments from the film. One article even called it "brave" and "a great blend of humor and insight into the horrors of the Red Room." Note to self: having a woman discuss such an event with someone she cares for in a mournful way = demeaning, stupid, and bad. Having a woman crack jokes about it because it doesnt matter while talking down to a man = brave, hilarious, and insightful
I hated that scene too it was such a serious and sad Story and red guardian should feel what a bad thing he has done to the Girls.instead they make it loughable. What is it with Marvel and new Movies about there weird Moral.
I think the scene worked well to start with, but it should of ended with showing that Yelena was deeply effected by it to the point her rage makes her unpredictable. Then by the end of the movie Yelena should be so broken by her brainwashing and abuse that she turned into a villain because she has blind rage against the whole world. But nah, just tell her hawkeye killed her sister. Dumb. She would of been an epic deep and complex villain
The Widows speak perfect English because they’re taught it practically at birth. In Agent Carter, we see a scene with the Red Room spy, Angie, learning English from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The same might be true for the Red Guardian but we never really got backstories on the Widow and Guardian programs. Only people who read the comics know who and what they represent. The movie was as vague as possible when it comes to the Red Room’s origins and the Red Guardian’s and Melina’s early history.
Taskmaster is meant to be this big intimidating person with a deep voice and cocky personality They turned him into basically a robotic wannabe Captain America
I would have been fine with if they had Red Guardian be more like the wannabe Captain America because that's basically what he is in the comics,anyways-he's Russia's answer to Captain America and their own super-soldier but here,Marvel made a joke out of BOTH Taskmaster and Red Guardian.
It's basically every film he sees. At this point it's tiring, like go do yourself a favor and see some indie films. There are some good ones out there.

What’s missing with the Black Widow movie 1. darker tone, though they did that at the beginning. But it’s not enough. They could’ve done better. Ever Anderson is good though 2. Back story of the red room training. Like winter soldier training the little widows and nat herself. And the psychological effects of the red room on Nat and Yelena. 3. Budapest. What really happened right? How did Clint and Nat became solid bffs? That should’ve been covered… 4. Iron Maiden or Melina should’ve been the main villain. Like in the comics. They destroyed Tony Masters aka TASKMASTER character. It was a waste. 5. Alexei Shotstokov should’ve been Nat’s love interest like in the comics. Enough of the male hero body shaming. 6. Ivan Petrovich should’ve been present in this movie. He was mentioned as nat’s father in Endgame. But why isn’t he present in this film? In the comics Ivan adopted Nat. And he recruited her to be part of the red room spies. 7. THE RUSSO BROTHERS should’ve written and directed this film. Cate Shortland and jac schaffer had a lot of SHORTCOMINGS. The movie was so badly written. 8. The film should’ve been released after civil war or winter soldier. It’s came a little too late for Phase 4. Don’t get me wrong I love Scarlett and how she played this character through the years but this movie was so late. A lot of us fans were expecting a DEEP DIVE of her PAST but we never get the chance to see what really happened instead we got a pixie dust and twisted stories. TO BE HONEST… It feels like the movie was a swan song, the origin and an apology. Basically overall it was confusing. I also hate the fact that Natasha was a secondary character in her own movie. Give this women her deserved Spotlight! I love Florence playing Yelena but noooo Yelena is bitchy, cunning and evil in the comics. They basically changed her. Changed her overall persona. MCU basically ruined Natasha Romanoff And now they’re moving on already with Yelena? Noooo she deserves so much better. I love Yelena and Florence but I hope MCU realizes the mistake they’ve done with this movie. Cate Shortland, Jac Schaffer and Ben whatever did an awesome job of ruining one of the greatest comic characters out there. Lols 😂 they should’ve hired David Hayter and the Russo Brothers instead.

I was so excited for a movie where a woman who wanted children was forced to become a killer and eventually break free from her harsh, ingrained values. I loved the idea of the widows being a cult where they WANT to be in the widows. The widows are their family, their reason for living. It would make them much more formidable than a bunch of girls who don't even want to be there and just need some juice to set them straight. Really, what I had hoped for was a girl who wanted to be a mom, a wife, maybe an author or a pilot or something, and who was forced into a different life, tortured and manipulated but STRONG (did you hear that modern media?) enough to overcome it. Instead I got crap and they ruined a character I thought I could relate and look up to.
6:28 Medical person here. This is strange to me. In order to break your nose in such a way to where you couldn't smell anything anymore, you'd need to break the cribriform plate, which is located directly between and below where your eyeballs sit within their orbits, to sever the olfactory nerve as it passes through. The problem is: 1. This would most likely lead to complete and irreversible loss of all olfactory function 2. Any force sufficient to break this structure would probably also cause a skull fracture and/or an epidural hematoma and would certainly knock the person unconscious. 3. Because the cribriform plate is a direct part of the anterior cranial fossa, you also would probably have cerebrospinal fluid leaking from the nose, followed by massive septic meningitis in the next few days as bacteria bypass the blood-brain barrier. I don't expect Hollywood screenwriters to have medical insight, but they should at least get someone smarter to proofread this stuff. Also, why not just pinch your nose closed with your hand and go grab a clothespin or something? I guess that would have looked stupid but probably better than fracturing your skull.
Exactamundo. American dollars are a bonus not the main goal anymore. People need to wrap their head around the fact gigantic multinational corporations have never been your friend and now they are increasingly treating you like garbage…cause they can.
@@AmericanNope Yeah man. Disney totally only makes movies for China. That's why Shang Chi, Eternals and Dr. Strange 2 will not be shown there. China only allows a handful of foreign movies each year.
But Chinese people are on average muuuuuuuuch more conservative than the average American. Far most of them thoroughly dislike LGBT-rights, actual female empowerment (i.e. what we had before feminazism took over), and social justice. They don't give a crap about racial equality because to them being ethnically Chinese makes you automatically worth more than anyone else (unless you are a high-ranking celebrity). So pushing an SJW-agenda would be commercial suicide if you want your movies to appeal to the Chinese market.
It would've been better have Taskmaster as a mercenary hired by General Ross to hunt and capture the remaining rogue members of the Avengers. That way, Black Widow is cought in a difficult situation where she has takedown the Red Room while also evading a deadly new opponent. While Dreykov's daughter Antonia would instead be revealed to not only have survived but is also the one who took control of the Red Room after her father died.
As long as the ending was already, I totally expected the "red jizz" to have no effect on TaskMaster. I expected her to get up and be like "I didn't do this because I was being controlled..." It would have made much more sense if Dreykov controlled his daughter the old-fashioned way: through grooming, manipulation, and the promise of revenge. It also could have set up Taskmaster for the Thunderbolts, but it looks like we'll get Yelena instead. I like the character, but I was hoping to see Yelena in a new Avengers team with Sam/Cap instead of joining the Thunderbolts (aka Marvel's Suicide Squad).
The avallanche which killed innocent people and dogs in the prison was caused by that bratty sister of Natasha, who claimed she loved dogs. She also made disgusting jokes about their death, like "cool way to die". Let this sink in.
This whole movie was a plot armor fest, and to make it worse we all know nothing is going to happen because is a prequel, so all the action scenes feel empty and lacks urgency/risk to the characters.
I enjoyed the first act of the movie, but the stuff aboard the sky thingie was absurd. Nat could've doubled for Spider-Man the way she performed in the air up there.

I love how in these movies (and videogames like Tomb Raider) Siberia, being a region that encompasses like half of Russia, is always portrayed as this desolate snowy land of eternal winter and depression, with gulags full of dangerous babushkas guarded by bears with balalaikas&ushankas. Also I remember reading the Civil War artbook and in the chapter on locations there's an interesting passage about hydra base at the end that goes something like: "The setting was a region of Siberia...so we google mapped some 360 shots from Iceland"...Probably because when (if at all) they've tried to goooglemap Siberia they got themselves some cognitive dissonance and panicked.
it would've been so cool to see an actual "natasha perspective" movie from beginning of her story at the orphanage, to the end of her sacrifice (or maybe even a small funeral after the events of endgame). We got a tiny bit of the first part, but after that it was just a team gathering to take down the big bad, along with some fake family drama. Black widow was such an interesting character that always gave hints to her past through most all of the phase 1&2 movies she was in, but we ended up with near nothing to tell of it.
And here I thought we were going to see more about her upbringing, training, life before she joined SHIELD, so we would know exactly why the organization was so evil and show us how she came to be the person she was later. But nah, we’ll just do a lot of shooting and explosions and fights and stupid jokes, that’ll be fine.
That's all Marvel has become now. They want all their characters to be fucking comedians, all witty and charming in the manner that Robert Downey Jr. portrayed Tony Stark. A supposed serious movie about assassins and a new world order, and they manage to fit a joke in every 2 minutes at least. It wouldn't even be as bad if they wrote good jokes too, but they don't. It's just cringe as fuck Tumblr-esque dog shit humor made for teenagers. What can you really expect though when Disney owns Marvel.

The Winter Soldier was definitely not a pointless movie in the MCU at all, it is one of the best. It was a well-written, well shot movie and one of the most incredibly important ones, setting up Captain America's crumbling faith in the government that would ultimately cause him to side against registration in Civil War, and put him at even more odds with Iron Man.
Is no one gonna talk about how they wasted taskmaster on black widow, AND THEN MADE HIM A MENTALLY 12 YEAR OLD GIRL WITH BURNS. The worst thing about this movie is how they wasted and completely butchered taskmaster. It’s one thing to turn him into a woman, as long as the character is still good I usually don’t care even though it’s an established character. But to make her a mindless drone with no personality is just a shame. And how do you have taskmaster on your team and not have him being the one training the widows. That’s like the whole reason you’d recruit him.
Not only that, now Taskmaster was "saved"/reformed/whatever you want to call being freed. Thats an issue with SO many Marvel villians now, they are one off villians when they used to be multi-story in size. what could they possibly do to TaskMaster now??? Make her a hero?? I mean, whats the fun in that? lol Also man they really only said "they copy your movements" once and didnt touch in on that in other scenes 😂
Taskmaster was wasted in this tbh. Was barely in it and treated as a winter soldier clone. Maybe he would have been better off in falcon and winter soldier.
Honestly, he just watches the movies I have no interest in, the superhero sub-genre’s so bloated and annually, that I’m just treating it like white noise.
I haven't seen it yet but listening to you describe the plot and all I can think is "Yeah, that sounds like a crazy, convoluted comic book plot." Now whether or not that translates into a movie is a matter of execution.
1:35 "making their way to Cuba" in a light, single engine aircraft, loaded to the gills, having suffered damage enough to affect it's aerodynamics, on a SINGLE tank of fuel...
100% This movie talked about Budapest, what I wanted was to SEE Budapest a Hawkeye Blackwidow movie shortly after The First Avengers would have been amazing, instead we got this trash. Even the ending was stupid Whathisbucket with the water prison comes up with 500 cars supposedly filled with badasses to try to collect Black Widow and all we get is a cut to 2 weeks later? What....BULLSHIT give me a fight scene or a captured but got away scene or SOMETHING but we got nothing a terrible terrible ending that you dindt even mention Drinker. Also the end credit scene...are we really to believe that shoehorned in Little Sister must go kill Hawkeye now....oh wait is he going to be a stumbling stooge in that movie...he's male...this is the modern MCU....yeah I guess so.
I dont agree, 10 years ago this character didnt had the same weight with the audiance. This movie is Marvel capitalizing on the emotional tone of BW death in Endgame.
I think they spent all of her screen time with her being part of every other Marvel film. I honestly got tired of her being an important part driving all the other movies she was in. I wish they had just given her her own movie early on and let the other characters have their own movies that weren't so heavily relying on cameos on steroids.
I totally agree, the way they handled taskmaster was what I was the most disappointed about. Not only do we barely get to see her powers in action, but she doesn’t even do that much outside of the first part of the movie.
"If you're excited to see Red Guardian in this movie, prepare to have your hopes shat on!" Nooo! What a wasted opportunity to say "prepare to have your *expectations subverted"*
Disney thinks they can have a “diverse” production staff, not based or merit or talent, and people with either not care or notice. Hopefully they will be proven wrong.
@@BoneistJ The Mandolorian was at least watchable and the last five minutes of season two, unfortunately, was the most emotionally satisfying Star Wars scene in almost forty years. I do believe the reaction/outcry from it didn’t go unnoticed by Disney. Whether a new trilogy would be good or not I personally believe nothing could be worse than the abomination we were given.
@@ElValuador "I personally believe nothing could be worse than the abomination we were given." Don't say stuff like that... Disney and LucasFilm might take it as a challenge.
