Saying they shouldn’t have killed off Natasha or Tony is doing a disservice to both characters. It wasn’t fridging her, it was the perfect culmination of her character arc, just as Tony’s sacrifice was the perfect culmination of his arc. Natasha is the second major Avengers character after Tony. She deserved to go out in just as big a way as Tony. I agree they should have done this film years ago, but her decision in Endgame was HER decision. Don’t steal her agency by saying it should have been Clint.

The guy was brainwashing and physically altering women to use them as weapons. That's enough to hate him, isn't it? What more could we gain with spending more time with someone like that. His personal connection with Natasha is that she tried to kill him via his daughter. Natasha lived with the guilt of killing a kid but at least she had taken out a monster but when that turned out to be false, that is enough motivation and personal stakes, I think. I loved the movie. Loved Natasha. I saw only the first promo that came last year. So almost everything was unseen for me. Also having no comic book knowledge about these characters, serves me better. What I also liked was that when she says she has some friends to rescue from prison means she helped Rogers rescue people like Sam and Wanda from the Raft, he did not do it alone and makes more sense to me.

I mean, the guy was definitely despicable. But he seemed more like a caricature than a person who had a real history with Natasha. Also, for me, the lines like "the only natural resource the world has too much of: little girls" was just not subtle and felt like the directors/writers didn't think we would understand the point without explicitly hitting us over the head with the clunky dialogue. I liked the movie overall, but this was the weakest point for me.

Honestly, his long scene with Milena/Natasha was just enough exposure for me. There were enough hints to sell him as both the abusive father and the merciless pimp - I didn't need to see him enjoying torture or pawing at his branwashed widows or sallivating over new arrivals.

That was my big thing, I dug the movie, had fun and laugh a couple of times but, this would've hit harder right after CIVIL WAR. I wanted more time with Yelena, Alexei and Melina. The beginning scene and the "family back together again" scene are the best moments in the film.

100% - I agree with what the guys say in the review too: More than one movie would have been so much better. Imagine the first one in phase one where we get Black Widow's backstory including her building a relationship not only with Yelena but also with Dreykov's daughter perhaps. In that first movie we also could have gotten that very first mission with Hawkeye where she defects from the program. That would have given this movie (after Civil War) so much more impact. They could even have thrown a full parallel backstory for the future Taskmaster in there.

Damn there no need to blame one of my favorite characters in the MCU Hawkeye, the man was fighting to kill himself for Nat he just lost. Yelena wouldn't know though, and the revelation in the hawkeye series will probably hit haaard in the feels. That way, all the potential dark avengers (us agent, yelena, ghost, taskmaster, potentially even loki, sylvie and ronin) have something in common - trying to get revenge for the wrong reasons and growing in character by overcoming that drive and finding the good in themselves.

The tragedy to this movie is that it should not have been the first and only Black Widow. The story they were trying to tell had some real meat on its bones, but it was told far too quickly to establish its depth. Natasha's family reunion, the revelation about her biological mother, and the shameful (monstrous) moment from her past coming back to haunt her all could have resonated so much more strongly if given time to properly develop over a series rather than in a single exposition-laden film.

It’s amazing. Out of all the original Avengers, Natasha really did have a great three chapter arc. The other characters had movies that moved the overall Marvel story along, but Natasha had a really great personal story they could of developed that would of evolved the character so much. Take on the movie was interesting, take on Hawkeye is asinine. He's not perfect, but he doesn't need a redemption arc any more or less than Black Widow...Also, though his actions during endgame weren't right, he was going around killing Yakuza and Cartel members, not civilians, so it's not like he was doing anything worse than the Punisher ever did. Do I like his character as much as Black Widow? No, not really, but it would have been terrible writing to kill him on Voromir, and I respect the fact that Marvel (90% of the time) services their storylines in ways that make sense. It was a B/C movie for me. I enjoyed it a lot still. I expect this film to be one of those Marvel films where people go “it’s garbage. Terrible film,” only for a few years to go by and have them do a 180 and go “it actually wasn’t that bad,”. That is a trend I’ve been seeing with Marvel property recently and I don’t know why. It’s like everybody is expecting Mephisto now. Expecting the next big bad or event. I guarantee you at the end of Loki, when we don’t get Kang there will be people who call the show garbage based on that alone.

its just like how hydra used the winter soldier, to assassinate people for their own cause. even the way dreykov said it was literally similar to hydra's super soldier program. the red room assassins were used to stir up conflicts, or start wars, starve 1/4 of the world. The girls are scattered all around the world and with Dreykov watching from above he's basically God himself while his angels do his works for him while he takes all the credit. They're mind controlled so that what happened with natasha doesn't happen again. Natasha deserted the red room and betrayed them and almost killed dreykov and his daughter. That's why the mind control thing for the girls was created in order to prevent them from deserting and if ever they're compromised, dreykov can self destruct them

I don't get the Hawkeye hate. It's not like he forced Nat to sacrifice herself or pushed her off the cliff. He was just as ready to make himself the stone swap-out as Nat was to the point where he'd do whatever to ensure she DIDN'T do it, but couldn't because, like Hector said, Nat is more skilled than him and in the end out-played him. The way he collapsed in guilt and regret and sadness when everyone comes back to current time in Endgame isn't something a character who was all for killing their friend would do.

I disagree with one point you guys made about Natasha talking about her sterilization in Age of Ultron that it didn't really matter and that was a dumb thing to do because its not. It's true that women's are not defined by their fertility, women's have their own personality, capabilities, creativity, achievements etc etc which is enough to define them and they don't need anyone's certification that they are complete or not. But there is an old saying in our culture that says- "Until you feel the pain to give birth to a life, you can't feel the real pain of taking a life ". In Age of Ultron I took that scene through this perspective. And it doesn't only refers to only women, it refers to men also. It certainly affects everyone in some level whether it's a men or a women. It is sad that someone had to go through that kind of situation where they were robbed to see children of their own but some people bravely took it and give their love and care to the children who needs it, that's a most noble thing to do. Maybe you have a different understanding of the scenes and I respect that. But I just wanted to share my thoughts on the same, that's it. But I totally loved Black Widow. I wish someday I can watch it on theatre with my friends again as now here it's still under lockdown situation. I hope to see at least Shang-Chi in theater next.🙏🙏🙏

I totally loved Black Widow. It was great to see Nat’s character in the MCU expanded, and I really want more Florence Pugh. Not only was she a riot, but so so sincere. It was heart wrenching to see what little Yelena lost through her eyes. For Agustin: I’m not trying to make you or anyone like Clint; just offering an alternate take on Nat’s death: Nat didn’t do it for him. She did it for his family, whom she loved too. I also feel like blaming Clint for her death undermines her agency in making that choice. If he was in her calculus at all, then it was to repay him for saving her from the Red Room. Going all the way back to Iron Man 2 she’s been the savior by keeping her eyes on Tony. Avengers she not only shook Clint out of Loki’s grasp, but she’s the one who closed the portal. Age of Ultron she’s getting Cap his shield back, AND being the one bring Banner back. And now we see how pivotal she was to the MCU post Civil War. Clint didn’t throw her in like Thanos did to Gamora. In fact he wanted to jump to escape all messed up stuff he did as Ronin. If you think about it his jumping would have been selfish, whereas Nat’s death was selfLESS. I do agree that Clint’s days are numbered. I think nearly everyone’s days from phases 1-3 are numbered. Anyway. Much love for all y’all. Watching you 3 always makes me miss my nerd squad from back in the day. The only way Taskmaster being female affected anything in the movie was to increase Natasha's empathy for her. The only difference for viewers is that the twist of Taskmaster being the main villain's supposedly dead kid was a little harder to guess. Taskmaster in this movie didn't display much in the way of being an induvidual character with a personality, so being male or female didn't really alter the character. I would have liked another minute of fighting though.
@lastudentessa
@lastudentessa 3 года назад
I agree. Most of the time when a character is masked all the time, it's hard to connect with them. So to viewers who aren't aware of Taskmaster's comic history, this version is just a highly skilled and cool but "empty" villain. With the twist, Taskmaster became Natasha's indirect creation, her Frankenstein if you will. Natasha blames herself and has to face a consequence of her actions. The reveal gives Taskmaster some personality which they could always revisit. To those who are upset, don't forget MCU plays the long game. BUT I would have preferred if their fights scenes were longer so I could've have really seen Natasha struggle emotionally.

So, I liked the movie quite a bit. It definitely should've been made after CA:CW...but it is what it is. I prefer this version of Taskmaster to the comics. Mostly because I feel it fits the nature of the MCU better...and partly because I've never actually enjoyed comics...too Campy Soap Opera for me. Could've been more screen time and things for the character to do, but the movie was already over 2 hours. I'm not sure how I feel about them "freeing" her at the end. It'll be interesting to see if she stays "good", or turns hardcore vigilante like Hawkeye did as Ronin. Florence Pugh was terrific as Yelena, and even though everyone did their part well, I really feel like she was a standout even next to ScarJo. She'll be a great "replacement" BW, filling the position extremely well, and still being her own character without copying ScarJo. As for everyone complaining about the end credits scene with Valentina blaming Hawkeye, it's not because anyone actually blames him for Natasha's death...it's because Valentina's organization wants him eliminated, and Yelena can possibly do that, and she'll believe the "He murdered your sister" line. What will almost certainly happen at some point is that when she goes after Hawkeye, she'll find out the truth before she kills him. Maybe they'll even team up and that's how she finds her own spot among the Avengers. I enjoyed the movie. It was worth it. And that's all that really matters.

I enjoyed this film, but I have a bone to pick over how this changes Natasha's Endgame decision. I kinda agree with Agustin, but from a different point. Nat sacrificed herself because unlike Clint, in HER WORDS in Endgame, the Avengers were her only family. Steve even says this after her death. The idea was that Nat was willing to sacrifice herself for her only family, the Avengers and their mission, and that it was wrong for Clint to do the same because he had another family to protect. But now, Nat has another family, which she says herself in this film. And so she completely ignored them for all of Endgame and didn't tell anyone? And didn't tell them what she was doing? And so now I have to suffer a "misunderstanding-style" subplot where Yelena wants to kill Nat? I'm so tired already.

I couldn't care less about who Taskmaster is but the whole character was dumb, lame and mostly a HUGE plothole. And to be honest the same old recycled story. I've seen this millions of times. Marvel just can't be serious for more than 5 min. They made fun Nat's death in that credit scene and they made fun of what happened with those young girls. Their organs literally teared out and they acted like it's funny. This movie isn't about Nat at all it's just a movie for the future. I loved Yelena but come on this movie should've been about Nat not her sister. Feige just can't make a great movie about women they can't handle female characters. This is the second movie about a heroine and they ruined both. The CGI was almost as bad is in the Black Panther. And the score, I don't even remember there was any in this movie. MCU has like 4 or 5 good score in their movies in the past 10+ years. Such a shame. The first 40 minute or soe was good but the rest is totally pointless and ridiculous. Nat had a lvlv 9000 plotarmor. David Harbour and Rachel Weisz was like there to part of the movie but they didn't had any meaning except the first 40 minute. This movie is the prime example how to waste so many great actor.
