Orcas don't belong ther I am sending am sending a few letter to SeaWorld and to a few marine biologists what they think about captivity.

SeaWorld does not abuse it's animals in any way. People need to stop believing every thing they hear in that documentary. If you release these animals that are use to living in the perfect conditions, you are just going to cause more stress on them

No, SeaWorld does not abuse them. That is very clear. But that doesn't mean they should be held captive, or is happy to be in held captive. Yes releasing them to the wild now will be extremely stressful for them. THEREFORE, STOP BREEDING CAPTIVE WHALES AND DON'T BRING IN ANY MORE WILD ONES! Captive whales can also be transported to larger pens!

SeaWorld environment IS abusive to orcas. No - management/trainers don't BEAT them, but they are held in confinement when they are far-ranging creatures; orcas use sonar to communicate which - sonar - doesn't work in walled swimming pools; and their families are broken up and the traditional and primary family unit is destroyed,and merely being put in a pen with other random individuals of inappropriate age and sex confuses them socially and emotionally.

Ann Schurman And everything your accusing Sea World, they can accuse you if you have a pet cat, gerbil, dog, horse, or bird. Do you have one of those?

Conspiracy Fact actually I just thought of that now after you mentioned dogs. We separate dogs from their moms once they can walk with open eyes cause we’re like “ITS A PUPPER” and people get mad that seaworld separates moms from their calf, even tho that’s only done if the mother doesn’t accept her calf.

Important fact: What Carol Bay looks like doesn't and shouldn't detract from the matter at hand. Find more important things to do instead of focusing on a woman's appearance and unjustly insulting her.

Not just the trainers. The animal care staff, (some like myself anyway) also have/had the feeling of Needing to stay, to make sure the animals are cared for. The trouble with that was, it didn't matter that I cared. I was able to make some decisions in my position, but in the end, it was all about money and what was good for the Corporation.

Both women are coming from very different places during this interview. Carol is not being "a snot", she is clearly on the verge of tears remembering the splitting up of a family that she was deeply personally involved in as a trainer. IIRC Samantha was never made to participate in this kind of abuse of individuals she'd worked closely with-- it makes sense that she is able to be more composed and vocal than Carol in recounting these experiences.

Such an amazing documentary!!!

The documentary "blackfish" was amazing and parts brought tears to my eyes. These dolphins are such spectacular and extremely intelligent creatures and I'd never go to any type of sea world again!! In there natural environment they've never hurt a human and actually are quite friendly but keeping them basically in a jail caused them to be psychologically damaged which caused this sad misfortune!

Watched the film finally and saw that it didn't touch on the whale in Miami aquarium. It was focused on the Seaworld involvement in whale captivity and glad it touched base in the Canary Islands. I think it was Josh Hargrove that was the most amazing to me, for he just stepped off the Seaworld boat to do this film, denying them previously. His words were the most telling.
@francescordobas1600
@francescordobas1600 2 года назад
Honestly, the Miami Sea Aquarium hasn't any relation with SeaWorld, however, Loro Parque had some relation with SeaWorld, as you can see in the movie, SW sent four young orcas to Loro Parque, Gabriela strictly focused on SeaWorld themed events.

The blonde on the left, her premise in saying that the killer whales need to have a trainer care for them is so off base. The reason why trainers don't like to quit their job. These whales never needed someone to look after them in the first place! To have someone look after them in captivity is perpetuating abuse.

Samantha Berg is awesome but Carol Bay looks so much like a snot next to her. Sam is well spoken and vocal, and awesome.

How does she look like a snot? They’ve clearly seen some rough stuff and it’s hard to talk about. She just looks like she’s holding back tears

I believe Carol just didnt connect with the orcas like other trainers did or the industry just didnt suit her which is why she is left.
@roselucas1

I beg to differ, the very moment she starts to speak, Carol stiffens up...Samantha wasn't a trainer as long as Carol, nor had as much experience with the whales as Carol...but watch...and it deters from the message they want to give. neg votes or not...its there...

Its not about her appearance but her demeanor...watch it again...your moniker is very telling, perhaps its your issue with "appearances" you are projecting here...

The entertainment portion creates the revenue to pay for the research facilities, the rescue programs, the staff, the insurances, the healthcare for the animals, etc etc etc..... While it is stated that they put a minimal amount towards the rescue program, i would like to highlight something (as someone who manages a large budget), is that the employees, the equipment, the insurance, etc is all already paid for. the costs associated to a rescue program would just be things like Overtime, Travel, Meals, Fuel, Rental vehicles, and so on. Its simple budget allocation.

All the people in the movie knew what was going on way before the documentary. Outrageous they didn’t speak up beforehand

Right. Cuz it's totally feasible for a single individual to go up against a multi million dollar corporation and their attorneys. p.s. It was a documentary, not a movie. Big difference.

Something I'm confused about, and I know no other place to ask than here: Carol, in the film, quotes herself saying "Namu's not doing that because she has to..." cut to a clip of Carol while working at SeaWorld, saying "...Namu's doing it because she really wants to." To me, it really sounds like Carol is saying "she" both times. But the only orca named Namu I can find, was a male who died in 1966. Can someone clear this up for me?
@Aethuviel
@Aethuviel 10 лет назад
Really? Because I visited SeaWorld only once, in 2000 (before Believe), and Shamu was certainly the only stage name I was familiar with. But that would explain it, as the real Namu was a male who only lived a short time in a sea pen.

+Frida Nyberg you know i actually just got done watching your video called "blackfish vs seaworld" n was gonna comment but you disabled the comment, but a lot of your statements were false. I think you should watch blackfish again and maybe do another video. 2 examples 1 samantha never claims it is her that was riding the orca in that video and john never said capturing orcas was illegal he was talking about cutting them open and filling then with rocks. which was and still is illegal.
@Aethuviel
@Aethuviel 8 лет назад
That video I made is somewhat incorrect, but I've got a lot more where that came from (written far later, when I had done more research): orcinus-ocean.tumblr.com/blackfish

Namu and Shamu are stage names she was talking about that over their actual names. She could have just been referring to a whale that she calls namu in her shows. She used the term namu because that’s what the audience generally knows the whales as

These two are PETA worshippers. If you would actually do research, Samantha Berg was only working with Dolphins and Belugas - no experience with Killer whales (compared to Mark Simmons or Dawn Brancheau (both over 15 years experience). SHE NEVER RODE A KILLER WHALE - as she says in the film. SHE NEVER WAS around Tilikum. She hasn't worked at SeaWorld since 1993. And just because she witnessed some trainers mishandling the animals - doesn't mean all SeaWorld Trainers mistreat the animals. Carol Ray lied about Mother and Calf separation and about Katina "shaking" after her calf was transferred - No Evidence supports the claim. SeaWorld has changed tremendously - The Shows do focus on Education - SEAWORLD MADE A COMMITMENT OF $1.5 MILLION OVER THREE YEARS AS PART OF A NEW PARTNERSHIP WITH THE NATIONAL FISH AND WILDLIFE FOUNDATION (NFWF) THROUGH THE KILLER WHALE RESEARCH AND CONSERVATION PROGRAM (KWRCP). THIS SUPPORT IS JUST PART OF SEAWORLD’S $10 MILLION PLEDGE TO FUND RESEARCH AND CONSERVATION FOR KILLER WHALES IN THE WILD. These two women are speaking for PETA - who have been investigated multiple times of euthanizing over 2,000 shelter animals a year - 38,000 total as of 1998! These two are NOT THE EXPERTS. They are Liers. Quit falling for the Blackfish Propaganda. Blackfish? more like Black Lies - with Animal Rights extremists posing as "experts"

What you said doesn't make the reality of orcas being kept in captivity a matter less than what it is. Wild intelligent marine mammals being exploited and abused for entertainment and money.
