A real blacklight protagonist like Alex would be one of the things that even the Flood would nuke from orbit. I think it would be trivially easy for him to wipe out a feral stage Flood outbreak.

I think you forgot a key factor of the Blacklight Virus: it's unparalleled adaptability to environmental and malicious factors, often coming out ahead after a period of being crippled. While I can imagine the Flood infecting Blacklight, I can also see Blacklight adapting to the Flood, and turning the tables.

There is a catch though, as you said, the blacklight virus DOES NOT play nice with physical contact, trying to infect whatever it touches like the flood, it may not have spores,(that also brings up another question, how would it react to a microscopic organism trying to infect its host, when the virus, being a virus, is smaller than a cell?) but it does act in a similar way with more ease, as it goes for every cell, and isn’t constrained by getting to a nervous system. But that brings up another point, intelligent human infecteds like Alex, and few blacklight forms, very well might not have centralized nervous systems anymore, being masses, sometimes incredibly dense masses, of tendrils consisting of blacklight flesh, taking the appearance of whatever they wish, clothes included.

I want to point a few things out since I've been playing both Prototype games. The virus doesn't just infect people - the biomass it generates also creates hives that as the time goes on makes more and more mutated beings. These hives may vary depending on where they're made - they can range from infected buildings with large cysts generating said mutants to underground sections covered with that biomass. These hives house massive amounts of Walkers and can give life to more dangerous species such as Hunters, Brawlers, or Juggernauts, and if a really large building becomes a hive the biomass it generates can make for a really tough armor for such hive, one that requires extraordinarily powerful ordinance to break through. Not only that, but the virus constantly evolves as it infects more and more people, which can lead to massive and powerful mutants such as Goliaths, or potentially even more dangerous monsters Another thing is that the superpowered humans made with Blacklight Virus, called "Evolved" while rare can transmit their brand of virus to other people as it was shown at the beginning of Prototype 2, when Mercer infects Heller with his brand of Blacklight turning him into one of them. In the game itself there's enough Evolved to make a small army that becomes stronger as they consume more biomass. Also the virus itself is highly adaptable. It evolves along with the creatures it infects, can survive in most, if not any environment as long as there's life in it and can be modified into more lethal, or contagious brands, for example a Whitelight virus, which can be transmitted through air and has a higher chance of turning others into Evolved. Development of such virus brand could potentially lead to an outbreak, that would cover not just a city, but an entire planet with the Evolved being the most powerful beings and the potential leaders of the swarms of mutants.

I gotta say, that the blacklight virus is a bit under estimated in this one. A large part of what the black light virus is, is adaptability, their whole thing is evolving. Against your typical black light virus infected, the flood could corrupt and use the infected for their own gains. However in the case of infected individuals who bond with the virus, such as Alex Mercer, if they themselves consume enough flood biomass over time, it's very possible that the black light cell structure would evolve into a sort of black light super cell, along the same lines as the flood. And from their, they would be able to introduce this evolution back into black light as a whole.

I know how to win against both. EXSTERMINATUS.

They are both have the same goal, wouldn't just one assimilate each other willingly and become a deadlier virus? Imagine a flood that has access to evolved like Alex Mercer.

Don't forget that Mercer did survive a nearly point blank nuke. Which was mostly caused by the high amount of biomass he had collected. But I can see that flood would could be better of the Victors. But Blacklight is quite Hardy, even the slightest piece that remains can go under the radar. And can become another Mercer. Kinda like Deadpool really, just one cell is all that is needed for survival.

The blacklight is underestimated by far. We have never seen the full potential as alex wasn't allowed to because remember it was man made it has obstacles since the start. Give black light full control of one planet and the flood with another equal pops letting blacklight have alex mercer with full hive mind control as because when he absorbed Elizabeth green he became the central core

Well, only one place to go after this... Flood vs Necromorphs. Let's do it.

Alex Mercer made all of the other Evolved (the beings like him). Once one exists, he can make theoretically a massive amount more. Mercer didn't make that many because he wanted to infiltrate Gentek and break them fron the inside. All it takes is one and the Flood may very well be doomed, because if one can make an army, an army of Evolved may be impossible to beat.

I've always wanted to see how the black light virus would do against the flood and this video was great. Thanks :)

IMO blacklight at its full potential seems like it would easily devour any biomass, flood included. Flood infects and over time mutates the host. Its a parasite, if a very aggressive one. Blacklight on the other hand seems to literally be able to consume huge amounts of biomatter and transform it into almost any form in seconds. I guess the key though is that this potential isn't really unlocked except in the few special individuals. I think Alex Mercer (edit:correction) would consume flood biomass just fine - but blacklight as a whole, even if it prooved to be immune to flood mutations might struggle to outpace the flood on a global scale and likely lose by attrition.

In theory, he could consume the biomass of an entire planet, assuming the biomass is all connected And the mass production of these powered individuals is possible if mercer wanted it to (and by extension, so should heller)

You're under estimating the blacklight. IF say someone like Alex Mercer was more creative with his powers then he could easily adapt to the flood as well. Then it'll be a battle of who can out adapt the other.

Is there even a point in watching all the way through? I mean the Flood is literally an unstoppable force that doesn't give two shits about immovable objects.

it would be interesting to see a good simulation about which would win, even more so since I do think you underestimated the blacklight virus. Once someone becomes an evolved they can take control of all infected and start making other evolved who would be almost on same par as the first and would be under the first control but also be able to think for themselves. While the other forms are formidable opponents the top tier from what we can see that they are capable of they are at lest on same level of threat in terms of combat as a spartan. Both blacklight virus and the flood has their weakness and strengths but the main thing that would have a big effect on a fight between them (besides the blacklight virus having good chance of being more organized near the start) is if one can absorb the other and if they can't (which is possible since they are alike) it would come down to who can produce the best troops. And in truth the flood is more attack when have superior numbers while while a blacklight infected (hunter and above) are more made to be able to take on a good number of opponents with out having a lot of help.

Once the flood attaches itself into a living being, it starts to learn, the more it spreads the more intelligent it gets. It’s simple they possess and adapt.

Flood. Easily. In the time the virus took to infect part of Manhattan, the Flood would have conquered the planet.

Blacklight would win 80 to 90% of the time if it was a fight between the two due to how they both work. But if your talking about domination of the planet then I'd say the flood would take over but Blacklight would win in the long term. if two specials where made from that small infection and one special would easily run though flood its clear flood would be under pressure. Also the writing only scaled Blacklight for such a small scale I have no doubt if prototype sold better we would have got a much larger scale sight of what it would of been capable of.

Given the stipulation of being contained in a single city with a set population, I personally think it could be considered 50/50, with certain stipulations shifting the balance to either side. Both sides can generate numbers rapidly, infecting hosts cells to reproduce through a number of means. The flood is capable of releasing spores in areas high biomass growth in addition to direct infection via the infection form (those lil face-hugger things haha). This is counteracted by blacklights ability to infect via bodily fluid contact, normally through scratches/bites from infected, being affected by hive spores - just like that of the flood - as well as infection via water sources. Therefore, whilst the blacklight has more avenues of infection, the flood can reanimate recently deceased and as such, there would likely be no significant difference. As for the infected "troops", for lack of a better word, I believe blacklight has an edge given the range of advanced infected forms. Whilst the immediately infected units of the flood are arguably stronger, capable of wielding guns, it still relies on infection of those with guns anyway. This still provides advantages over the zombie-esque blacklight infected though and should be considered. Both can generate advanced forms from biomass, with hunters and pure form flood virtually cancelling each other out in terms of abilities. Hunters are all-around versatile whilst the pure forms contain more specific strengths and weaknesses, therefore making it difficult to discern a clear winner. Hydras could make a difference in this regard though. Furthermore, if all infected are counted from the prototype series; leader hunters, juggernauts, brawlers and goliaths all exist to sway it further in blacklights favour. The final winner would likely be down to whether there is a presence of a gravemind, for the flood, and/or a hive mind like Mercer or Greene are shown to be. This allows the infected groups to be coordinated and, if the gravemind was present, would likely mean the flood wins given superior intellect. However, this is the final evolution of the flood and requires thousands of bodies and the greatest minds to be collected. In contrast, Mercer and Greene are described as being there from the beginning, with a small but possible chance of people developing their traits. As such given the population, it is more likely for one of them to be there and, given their immense abilities, absorb others knowledge, control the infected as a hive mind, and evolve both themselves and the infected at rapid rates; I believe it more likely for blacklight to overtake the flood. That is given the assumption it is in a city of 1 mil though, and different circumstances would likely change the outcome completely

Alex Mercer is unique to Blacklight itself. He is a different strain and from what we saw so far in Prototype, only he or other Evolved can spread their virus to others to turn then into Evolved soldiers rather then typical Blacklight forms such as zombies, brawlers or juggernauts.

Hey Eck, two things. After watching your quick video on the Last Jedi it made me reconsider how i felt about the new saga. I re-watched both episode 7 and 8 and have to say you are pretty spot on about the 8th movie unfortunately... My proposition for videos today are as follows. I would love for you to talk about the in universe science behind a hyperspace ram and if it is indeed possible to ram 1 let alone several ships through hyperspace. My second idea is for a new series. I would love for you to take an iconic "supercapital" ship like the eclipse, give it a small escort fleet and pin it against a fleet that would leave the playing field even. The fleet make up and size would be completely up to you; whatever you feel stands a chance against the super's. I personally would love to see videos like this because they would help me understand the power of these supercapital ships and I have a feeling you would have very interesting fleet composition and dialog

I’d say underestimating the flood as one flood spore can cover an entire planet, you also have to take into account of the floods fast infection which allows it to fully infect a human/brute/elite between 30s to 2minutes, and if it was just who infects more first, the flood would likely choose to make more carrier forms

I like this video, however due to my own personal knowledge of the blacklight virus, certain genetics will also effect it, I. E mercer gave it adaptability, heller gave it resilience so I think overall black light would survive depending on those genetic boons, that's all I really wanted to say
