I got this 1971 17” griddle for Father’s Day. I have read manual carefully,put it together just like it said (pretty simple) ready to season and can’t get it to light. Tried calling Blackstone 30 minutes no answer. I put bottle on three times to make sure it was right. Tried using a match nothing.

Great review - very easy to follow and you answered questions that a lot of people are wondering. I bought one of these (already an owner of the 36" version) and I really like it. I was able to cook pretty easily for 6 people (burgers, buns, etc.) After using it a couple of times I am finding that (for my personnel preferences) I should have gone with the 22" version for one reason: 2 separately controlled burners. With the 17" single burner you do not have the ability to have a lower heat/cool spot for resting food. This is usually handy for burgers or steak where you want to sear something and then set it aside for a slow heat and cook. With the 17", you are cooking everything at the same temp - no cool spot for slow cooking. With the 22" model you have 2 burners where you can separate your cooking. For the $84 at Walmart the 17" is great and I will continue to use it for ease of use. I just wish I had gotten the 22" model for the dual burner. One thing that might seal the deal for anyone looking at the 17" is the *awesome* Blackstone 17" griddle BACKPACK that is available at Walmart. If you get the 17" (no matter the model) strongly consider the Blackstone Backpack as it makes carting this thing around insanely easy. The backpack is built specifically for the 17 griddle and has room for carrying utensils and propane. This is not a piece of junk black vinyl bag - this is a sturdy square backpack with straps, handles, pockets, etc. I think the cost was around $45 but worth it in my opinion!

Attach the REGULATOR 1st, THEN screw the 1lb. tank to the regulator. Less chance of propane leakage before you turn the piezo knob to start flame.

Hi Jeremy, I've owned the previous version for over 2 yrs now (front grease tray) & love it. Got at Target for under $25 (end of season clearance-hidden under a table cloth). Been doing breakfast outside in the morning so far, but have done stir fry of veggies & chicken, etc. Enjoy your newest cooking tool. Look into getting the Hood for the grill & the cover-carry case set-worth it.

Hey Jeremy, what level did you have your burner set on while cooking? I have found that 'high' is far too hot for this little griddle (unlike the 36" griddles which do not get as hot at high.)

Jeremy how heavy is it? Is there an adjustment for the grease to run out the back? Would you recommend the bigger version with 2 burners for tabletops?
@bubbalo3388
@bubbalo3388 4 года назад
The feet screw in so there is some slight adjustment you can do there by playing with the feet. You may need to just get something to place under the two front feet if you want the grease to really drain towards the back. Would definitely recommend the 22 with 2 burners for more cooking surface and two seperate burners for adjustable cooking zones especially if you plan to use it a lot and have a family or like to entertain.

@JeremyHill

This model did not come with a cover or top. I know Blackstone sells a griddle hood for the model with the front grease trap, but I haven't found one that will fit the rear grease trap version.
@stillsearching5780
@stillsearching5780 4 года назад
The one that is made for the model with front grease trap works very well also. You just remove mounting hardware that comes on it and then bolt it right onto griddle. I did it after finding video on RU-vid. Easy, takes about 5 minutes or less. But I do believe Blackstone is making one now for this model sold exclusively through Walmart. If not the other is a PERFECT FIT!
@stillsearching5780
@stillsearching5780 4 года назад
On RU-vid search, 17” Blackstone Adventure griddle hood. It is by Gary Mayhak. He doesn’t talk at all on video. It shows the mounting hardware he removed on each side. Again, I did it to mine, works great.

@JeremyHill

The grease tends to pool in the front left corner on mine. I put a bottle cap under one of the legs to get the grease to naturally flow towards the grease tray in the back.
@bubbalo3388
@bubbalo3388 4 года назад
The legs can be adjusted some by screwing them or unscrewing them to try and level it out. Just make sure you screw them back in all the way when you are done.

The 22 inch is on sale now online at Walmart for $95 fyi. But if you want portability then you may want the 17 over the 22. The 22 is nice though cause it has two zones.
@YoyomaG6
@YoyomaG6 4 года назад
bubba lo wifey was saying we should get the 22 in case ppl show up and want some dinner. Its for the rv so I do worry about space. How do steaks taste like over a traditional bbq? I got some hankering for a philly cheese steak on that thing with onions, mushrooms and montreal steak spice 🥩 🧀 🥖 🍄 🧅
@bubbalo3388
@bubbalo3388 4 года назад
@@YoyomaG6 I have the 17 and it gives a good char for steaks and burgers so that's flavor right there. As far as taste goes vs a grill is a personal preference thing and two different cooking methods. You season this thing right it will be like a nonstick pan but far superior results than using a nonstick pan where your food won't really char. I got my 17 before the 22 came out and I was like aww man. But I thought about and I have no regrets because I bought it for the purpose of being able to take it places and the 22 would be bulkier and heavier which would defeat the purpose. I'm thinking about buying another one either another 17 or a 22 and thay way I can get the benefits of more cooking surface and the flexibility of taking the 17 or a 22 for travel. The 22 is nice because it has two cooking zones and more surface so depending on what you cook and for how many people it may save you a some time. Just weigh out how you would be using it. Also you would probably would want to hook it up to a 5, 10, 11 or 20 lb. tank vs using the little green 1 lb. bottle because it won't last long if you use both burners. It's give and take. Oh yeah, forgot to mention that I think the 22 at Walmart comes with a tank adapter hose, hood and a stand. It's a great bargain. I might pick one up myself now. Get one if these griddles, you won't regret it. I have a gas bbq and sometimes I just take the griddle top and place it on my bbq and use it that way. Just make sure the grease doesn't drip onto your burners.
