If you're a blacksmith or bladesmith you can't go wrong with one. If you're making hammers or architectural iron work then they are definitely the silent helper. If your lone working or with a stricker they really do offer you that extra when it comes to accuracy.
The blacksmith helper or blacksmith guillotine is a great tool for any workshop and i've set up a kit that you can now get your hands on. This video is a how to build for the kit that I sell on my Etsy.

Duct tape is a good way to clean the chips and metal dust off of your magnets.

I've bought a small version of a guillotine from Cloverdale forge, and I do find it very useful. This Bad Boy is Big Beefy and even more useful because of the size. For the dies, you can grind the dies round, angled or flat to accomplish different effects. Great work Dan! Big enough for hammer making. Looking forward to how you handle the dies! - good information.

Damn right Dan, super useful! I have 2 of these tools, from Sam Towns, different design to yours but.essentially the same! First one I welded the hardie square to my anvil but after using it for a month or so realised it would be a lot more user friendly with the hardie at a diagonal to the anvil! So, rather than destroy the one I had trying to alter it I ordered another! I use both, different jobs with longer lengths of stock they both have usefulness! Get one, great tools!

Dude you honestly look EXACTLY like me except I have dark hair, and I'm also English, and a blacksmith...lol...great job on the video! Its time I upgrade to this type of tool...enough using spring fullers, etc.

Any decent hardware store here in the U.S. will have metric stuff so I wouldn't worry in that dept. too much.

You know, if you're getting them laser cut anyway, you could design it with mortice and tenon joints that could be peened, instead of having to weld. Just an idea. It'd make it a lot easier for those of us without welders.

I know but un like yourself I'll get shit about not taking it into account. Plus people might have a unf/unc tapes kicking about less likely to have metric.

Mr Daniel Moss.. Or Anyone else with experience in the community. I bought some forktruck tine a few months ago, I've now got around to processing it. Would you recommend I normalize it before forging or should I anneal it. Looking to forge my first hammer.

Dan, this type of "guillotine helper" is very useful. Thank you for showing how easy they can be to build. Also, will you make whatever settings are necessary for RU-vid to give the opportunity for closed-captions to be shown for those of us that have become hard of hearing? I've no clue what has to be done for Creators to give us that option, but most videos I watch do have the CC option -- hopefully you don't have to pay RU-vid to be able to add them!

I know but you can guarantee there will be an American thats butt hurt cause I made him buy new taps and I'll get it in the ear. Then I will need to have a conversation about how the USA have been using the metric system since the mid 70's and cause of the un relenting and compromising general public congress did role it out across the country to avoid kicking up a stink. So you see why I will be sending imperial bolts to the last great bastion? Just so we are all clear hear this isn't an attack its a joke and I'm being sarcastic. If I didn't make the offer I would have had comments saying "but I'm American and I don't understand your silly french system!" honestly I happens all the time. I try and have a mental plan when I do my videos, sometimes I have multiple takes which I then filter through during editing but my videos are still quite long. I am getting better and my video length is improving but I would also benefit from a script or a checklist too! 😂
