Honestly all you need is 2% corn syrup. Make the mycelium work, the strongest will survive and your LC will be nice and clear to see contam. Whatever works for you man but you'll find alot of that stuff really isn't needed. A mycocologist taught me that and ive never looked back.
@@ninailsgimpinstant pot will work perfectly fine. Just adjust your time. You can use steam baths as well, if you have the time to dedicate to sitting in front of your stove.
Karo is corn syrup yes, sorry I didn't specify in the video. Not sure it works better, it's really just what you prefer to use honestly. I've tried honey and preferred corn syrup for the clarity of the finished product.
It doesn't matter what sugar source as long as you stick to _that_ source throughout. If you plan to work with agar, use the same sugar you'll be utilizing for your LC, or if you make drippy corn. Source does not matter, the mushrooms dgaf.
@@SirDydimus86 As I mentioned, it really just depends on what you prefer to use or what's available. In my experience, some strains respond better to different sugars. Different LC broths and different agar recipes.
I don't believe there is such a thing as one LC recipe that best suits all mushrooms. For example, right now I have 3 LCs of lions mane. Each one is 350 mL, with just 1/16th of a teaspoon (about 0.1 grams) each of malt extract and peptone. One of the jars has a half teaspoon of honey added. The jars without the added sugar have grown more. Conversely, I'm running the same experiment on golden oysters, and the jar with the added honey seems a little stronger.
I agree, depends on strain for sure. I have some strains that take right off with this recipe, then I have others that don't do a darn thing, it seems. Been playing with the sugar content on the mixture and I am as well about to start using some honey in a few batches to see how it differs. With mycology, gotta change variables one at a time, to see how the mycelium reacts to that changed variable. Keeps things interesting and you can see first hand what works and what doesn't.
