I do it the old fashioned way but sometimes I make the them into hamburgers patties to cook in the oven or put them in the big muffin pan thanks for sharing take care 💯💜💯
This one looks great. Another idea is to cook bell pepper, celery, and onion (the trinity some folks call it) and add louisiana style seasoning to it. Then, divide it. Mix half in with the meat and mix the other half in it some kinda cream of whatever soup. I use cream of garlic sometimes. Put that on top. I've done it like that before, but I didn't measure a thing, and plus, I don't remember what all I put in there or how much. 🙂
This is the meatloaf I remember my mother making. No written recipe. Just passed down by memory. If she were living she would be 108 years old. I've never run across anyone else that put oatmeal in it. But I have used cracker crumbs or breadcrumbs when I didn't have oatmeal and it is absolutely not the same!
Mine is similar, absolutely no bell peppers tho because of an allergy…my ex daughter-in-law absolutely hated meatloaf, until she finally tasted mine & then she started making it also!!! My 2 teenage grandson’s request my meatloaf for Christmas dinner & this last time I FINALLY had enough leftovers for a meatloaf sandwich!!! YUM
Been making this meatloaf with oatmeal for decades! The recipe used to be on the oatmeal box! I never added green pepper because no one cared for it! I also added just a touch of Worcestershire sauce to the topping!
There's so many different ways to make a meatloaf. My family has had it many different ways but our favorite is basically like your Aunt Peggy's, except we don't use Dijon mustard. We also put crushed up saltine crackers in ours instead of oats. We put ketchup, and all kinds of seasonings in ours. We've tried using bbq sauce and making it in the air fryer which was really good but we keep going back to our traditional way of making it since it is our favorite. But I will be trying it out with Dijon mustard next time we make it. I bet it's delicious!
Finally!!! I've been putting oats in my meatloaf all my life, and so did the now gone family members I got it from. Some folks think they've gotta put bread crumbs in everything, but sometimes it's healthier not to. Never was a fan of ketchup and sure don't want it on my meatloaf. If you use a leaner ground beef there will be less fat retained in the loaf, but just in case, all you've gotta do is tilt the pan and press the meatloaf with a spatula to get a whole lot of that grease gone. You can also cook it on a rack and lift it above the pan to keep it from sitting in grease. It ain't rocket science, though cooking, and cooking good is a science that not all folks ever master.
Hi Paula It's a go with your Aunt Peggy's Meat Loaf. I do them in a muffin tin the small ones that way they are just the right size for children in the school lunch box.
That sounds great. When I was little my mom made me and my brother and sister homemade hamburgers to take in our lunch for school. They tasted wonderful at room temperature! Better than any sandwich! All our friends tried so hard to trade their sandwiches for what we had. We couldn't resist our mom's lunches they were all so, so good! RIP mom.
My dad did not like my mom putting bread on the bottom to soak up the juice. He wanted more gravy. So even though we had meatloaf, mom made gravy out of that juice for dad to eat later with toast.
It looks good..I have to try it! I love meatloaf and I know I've had some with oats, the funny thing is I hate oatmeal! Except in cookies or on too of Boston market sweet potatoes, but the meatloaf I had with iats in it was good.
I cook my peppers and onions in a little beef broth and add that mix to my meatloaf, along with fresh bread crumbs in the food processor. Also season with some basil and thyme. No oatmeal. The bread on the bottom just makes a soggy, greasy, bready mess. I drain my loaf as it's cooking.
I agree no oatmeal! And no bread on the bottom. And I always drain off the fat. I made a meatloaf the other day and hubby just loved it he bragged on it for days, I got maybe 2 servings. Idk what was so different about this one but, apparently something was.. I also add a lot of finely diced veggies, whatever I have on hand.
I felt sorry for you when you were going through your ordeal. Even defended you to some degree and I am a black woman! But, with this newest crap, I hope you never get back to where you were! You don't get it! But, then again you just don't want to!
