I've been using blender for a HOT minute and I gotta say, it's hard for me to find tutorials that do not drag on and on for forever, or are filled with the same useless information that almost everyone already knows. Thank you for diving straight in and getting to the meat of the tutorial. This is the first tutorial I've had to actually pause to keep up, or do some experimenting on my end, and I think that's a great thing. I also love the way you explain these concepts in such a straightforward, universally understandable manner. +1 Subscriber

I do all the 3D work in Blender. Also the compositing part for smoke/sparks etc. I did use the Octane render engine for fractals, and applied a bit of motion blur using Davinci Resolve.

This is amazing! I'm just gonna drop a request, I hope you don't mind: would it be possible to show your process from making the finished 3D model and animation to the actual video that you posted at the beginning, where the camera goes around, lights work nicely, there are different shots and POV, edited all together? I'm asking because I feel like there are a lot of tutorials that show how to do "NFT-like" static loopy things: you have your nodes, you set animation points and materials, one hdri and a camera that stares still at the thing, and that's the render. But there are not so many that show how to start from a nice idea with GN and actually make a full short sequence with it, and since you always deliver not the plain boring GN but a whole scene at the beginning of your works, and they are all pretty damn good-looking, that's why I am asking! Thank you in advance if you will read and think about it!
@BadNormals
@BadNormals 2 года назад
This is definitely the top 1 request I get, and it's nice as it shows there is definitely some interest for it. However it's not an easy video to pull off (in the sense of RU-vid algorithm and views). But I'm constantly thinking about how I could do that, so sooner or later this will probably happen. Cannot give any promises but someday for sure!

22:18 I believe you should be able to get that information of the curvature of the curve from the curve tangent node. You'll probably have to pipe it through a align euler to vector to get the correct rotation as the tangent gives you a vector that flows along the curve and you basically need a rotation vector perpendicular to it. For me with the same rotation of the scene as you had it, using the tangent as vector input for the align euler to vector and switching it to y axis did the job. This method would require you to use a curve line and resample it instead of using a mesh line, though, but it might be a bit cleaner.

You could also add a grid and instance the fern on the points giving each instance different parameters you setup from the original fern etc etc

Not attempting to be a notional socialist, but I just (and I curse so it will seem like hypocrisy) recommend against beginning your verbal part with invoking God's name in assessing your abilities about facing this project: "It was so Goddam hard..." etc. You risk alienating a significant portion of viewers. Saying FUCKIN' hard would have been less risky . You of course get to make your own risk assessments.
