At 19:04 after adding the modifier, thickness and checking the box, your box has some wayward vertices on the bottom left corner. What key strokes did you use to clear up the box. Thank for a great tutorial.

Thanks so much. Really great video with easy go follow instructions.. I’ve been using TinkerCad for my prints, until now. But I want to switch to blender for a better workflow. You reply help me to do that, so thanks a bunch 😉
@fullstacklab
@fullstacklab 2 года назад
Thank you 😊I've tried TinkerCad as well and it's superior than blender for basic stuff. But when it comes to pattern generation and reusing stuff to create new objects, blender is much more superior in my opinion. You can create complex cutouts with a few mouse clicks which don't need to be final and still can be adjusted.

Hey Bruno! Thanks for your positive feedback😊 I was doing pure 3D modeling before and I was simply giving 3D printing a try. Most of it is learning by doing with Google research.

Thanks for the tutorial - question: could you do all this with splines/lines? Is there a reason why you/other people use meshes and subtract things instead of just drawing with splines and then adding faces, extruding etc later? Thanks.
@fullstacklab
@fullstacklab 7 месяцев назад
Hey vooveks! Sure you can do that but it will be less precise. Personally I use splines and lines only for organic or asymmetrical shapes that are hard to get right with primitives like cubes and spheres.
@vooveks
@vooveks 7 месяцев назад
@@fullstacklab Cool, thanks for the info, appreciate it. I think it’s because I like the idea of drawing things in 2d as it seems simpler (probably isn’t though, if you are used to working with primitives like you say). What do you think of Fusion 360 vs Blender for parts and things like that? I’ve downloaded the free version and thinking of giving it a go.
@fullstacklab
@fullstacklab 7 месяцев назад
@@vooveks There are many ways to Rome. Take the workflow which suits you the best. I haven't used Fusion 360 simply because I don't see the value in it. It might be the better tool for 3d printing but then there is the pricing if you want to go commercial (e.g. freelancing). Blender is a very good and free allrounder and it's definitely worth learning it.
@vooveks
@vooveks 7 месяцев назад
@@fullstacklabYeah, definitely. Blender is amazing, especially considering it's free! Incredible that w can get access to such complex software for that price ;)

I followed to the "T" but when I put the bottom on I noticed the area where it was extruded had a Bevel??? I may have done something wrong when you say click this then that you say it backwards sometimes I was lost till I watched the screen for the correct sequence .I really wish they made software for 3D printers only without the Library of congress to sort through to get to the tools you need. Blender is so complex 99% of it is not needed for this! or a mode selection to remove what we don't need. like some apps have "Game Creator" 3D Print" Video" etc..

Hi Pygineer, Thank you for the tutorial it is very good. I just have one problem. The base face is not solidifying. I am currently using Blender 4.0.2. I cannot work out what I am doing wrong. I have watched your video several times and am making sure I do everything exactly as you are doing it, but I still cannot get it to work. Any idea where I might be going wrong?
@fullstacklab
@fullstacklab 6 месяцев назад
Hi doischmark, I just tested it with Blender 4.0.2. The workflow is still valid and it worked for me. Just make sure, that you add the base face right at the beginning. Also make sure that by creating the base face, your are closing the entire hole which means, all verticies/edges have to be selected and connected to the base face.

so at the end you scaled the model to 10 because you down scaled to 0.1 at the beginning ? and what about the sizes of the holes ? they are random, so how to make sure the screw would fit in ? thanks
@fullstacklab
@fullstacklab 3 года назад
I didn't set the scale of the actual model to 0.1 but the unit scale. This doesn't affect the dimensions of your model. You can set it to 1000 but the actual dimensions of the model will remain the same. Feel free to try it out 😉 And about the screw holes, you can make them as big as the actual screw. Because PLA shrinks after printing your screws will sit tight. But dont forget to make the walls of the screw holes thick enough (1.5-2mm) so that they don't break. Cheers ☺️
@mibrahim4245
@mibrahim4245 3 года назад
@@fullstacklab informative.. What about applying the scale? Why is it important? "Besides having even bevels"
@mibrahim4245
@mibrahim4245 3 года назад
@@fullstacklab and one last thing, if you put x and y and z to 0.1 without applying, would it affect the scale? Thanks
@fullstacklab
@fullstacklab 3 года назад
@@mibrahim4245 good question. It's important for the actions you want to do. For example if you want to add thickness to a rectangle with a scale of x=2 and y=1 it will add 2x the thickness on x and 1x the thickness on y. So basically it tells you how often an action will be peformed on a specific axis (at least for modifiers and beveling stuff). I think this can also affect positioning and rotating. And about not applying the scale, no matter what you set for x, y and z in the scale section and also in the dimension section it will always affect the scale.

@@fullstacklab thanks a lot!! I really learned from ur video, maybe it's the only one in RU-vid explaining how to make a case with blender!.. I was just confused with the scale issue, and now I understand that the 0.1 at the beginning will not affect the exported stl dimensions ..

Hello, I am glad to welcome you from Belarus. Tell me if you know the EasyEDA online application. I made a Dj Controller board in it, there is a function for exporting a 3D model, now I want to make a case for it in Blender, but I cannot import the saved 3D model with exact dimensions into a blender as in your example in the video with raspberries. Do you know the transfer method. I think this will serve as a good topic for a new video)

@fullstacklab
@fullstacklab 3 года назад
Guter Punkt.

I am not sure this is one of the best tutorial or the blender itself is extremely not user friendly. So many steps just to make a round curve for the corner... Coming from AutoCad, this could be achieved as simple as click select the edge line and push/pull the fillet, further one step if want to precisely set a numerical value for the corner.

one of the worst tutorials out there. a tutorial is supposed to give you step by step instructions, you missed out the bit right at the start where you created the first edge, and then you scaled the entire thing up 20X, but didnt mention a word, making me wonder why for time i couldnt get the extrusion right. thanks.
