Discover how to create a rigid body simulation in just 11 minutes. Full text summary: www.blenderguru.com/?p=11638 We make a chain, a wrecking ball then some stuff to destroy. All within Blender.
Anyone watching this with blender 2.8: instead of "copy from active" to set rigid body settings, hit F3 and type "rigid" then click "copy rigid body settings" Edit: Hannibal Chow mentioned "2.8 go to object tab in the top right next to the add button scroll down to rigid body all options there." for those of you who would rather not use hotkeys.
For people who have problem with detaching ball. Before creating sphere you should SELECT THE BOTTOM CHAIN IN EDIT MODE AND THEN CREATE THE SPHERE, so in that case it will be the same object and won't fall apart when you animate.
Yeah, I'm over here like "fuck it. I'm downgrading". I literally can't figure out how to switch from "render result" to the actual thing in the "Rendering" tab :(
I love your style of teaching because instead of going, "do this or else this will happen" you let the mistakes happen then and show people how to fix them.
4:46 In the most recent version of blender you have to press the ''.'' button to open a pie selector for the pivot point. Than select the 3D cursor as the pivot point, rotate and everything should be a bliss
Anyone who has the issue I had with the 3D cursor not working. Select the top chain, then while holding shift select the rest of the ball and chains, after that press period or “.” Like the initial comment said, but I clicked “active element”. This is because the first chain you selected is considered active, so when you select everything else and click active element you are setting the top chain as the pivot point.
at 1:34. The object tools panel has been changed and moved to the Physics tab located at the left side of the blender UI. In the [Physics] tab you will locate the [Objects Tools] panel and under it is the [Copy from Active].
I really like this quick tutorial. More of these would be greatly appreciated. It's a great way to teach someone the basics of something they don't know how to use.
If your wondering, in 2.8 the rigid body tools are in the object drop down in the viewport. I learnt this after I applied rigid body settings to all 127 pieces of my cell fractured Suzanne
Thanks for the great tutorial! I've worked with a lot of rigid body simulations in blender, but you helped me figure out some of my age-long problems with it! Awesome Job!
Just created my first wrecking ball animation in 2.8, thanks to this tutorial. I went for three wrecking balls to clear more cubes from my pile. Next I get to play around with the materials. Thank you for the tutorial, Andrew. It's a lot of fun, and very cathartic watching all those cubes go everywhere.
@Jake Jannone I'm not sure what you're doing wrong. My suggestion would be to make sure you have the appropriate rigid body physics on your links, planes, and cubes.
Actually, my question was whether or not we could do this in cycles....which I guess we still can't. I got to the 2nd part of the tutorial and he said to render in Blender Render. Thanks for being in Cycles mode for the whole 1st tutorial...
If you have the issue in 2.9 that the chains are just falling through the top one: Enable Animated on the top one (Dynamic doesn't matter). If it's stil not working, apply the scale of all objects (Ctr + A -> Scale)
Thank you! For whatever reason I ran through the tutorial yesterday and then again today... and for whatever reason his way worked yesterday but not today. Your way fixed it!
Great tutorial Andrew! would love to know how you textured everything. Especially how to apply slightly different textures to the boxes. It seems like they're applied randomly because i can't see any patterns
I have been to lazy to learn Blender because I know it took a while to learn how to use Photoshop and Unity, But when I saw your channel I really got inspired of how easy you make it look and you explain so clear! Thank you!!
Short tutorials are good for little experiments, but the real learning happens in the longer ones. Boring or not, the extra content is what makes you learn the intricacy of the program. I will be the one to argue for not getting rid of in depth videos. I am sure that after a few dozen short ones, those users will long for videos that do more than just scratch the surface.
So the ideal is to make long tutorials for begginers and short quick tutorials for intermediates and advanced users... I believe that begginers are well served with content... just go to Blender Cookie or even you tube with "Blender Begginers" and you'll have a lot to chose from... Now for advanced users with solutions for complex tasks we don't have many options...
It's not that i dont enjoy long tuts. They're awesome, but it's nice to have a short one every little while just to keep us motivated while we wait for part2. I mean Andrew's tutorials that are in parts can had two weeks or so in between. When you're new, you either use those two weeks to polish up your skills or look for someone else's tut.
Chain A timeline : 2:39 big enough 4:32 ORIGIN POINT reset 5:48 mass solidity 6:30 array modifier 6:43 gap 7:40 separate 8:18 ORIGIN POINT 8:45 slow 10:30 to keyframes
Wow man! You've been doing this since 2014?!! I am just starting to get into this it feels pretty intimidating learning from someone who's been at this for almost a decade!
Hello, I love this channel and the content it posts. Now, I’m sure I’m not the only one here who is a complete beginner to 3D editing. It is quite a bit difficult for me to keep up with the speed in which you do the tutorial. Sometimes you’ll hit an important button that you don’t mention and it’ll mess up my whole project making me watch your 30 minute video very slowly and meticulously not to miss any button you press or key you hit. I don’t think it will hurt anyone to go a little slower in your tutorials. Thank you!
There are more tutorials on this in Blender Guru's tutorials. Here are some interesting Blender tutorials too: ru-vid.com/show-UCFLJeQgsFK-Xd0-ZuTpcjVA
Chain is breaking, I have increased "Steps by Seconds" and "Solver Iterations", changed the mass, does not help, after two seconds some of the chain links just passing through each other
Almost there still learning. After Watching your tutorial, it inspired me to continue learning in getting the use of blender, sometimes I get confuse because of what I have download is the new version of blender so the functions are place quite different from your video.. all in all I really like the video it's easy to learn and understand. And the best part is I can see the key functions you input so learning is fun and very informative.. Hope one day I can be a great CG Designer. Hope you continue posting new videos of tutorials. Thank You Andrew Price.
when he changes perspective in 0.1 seconds already into wireframe view and selects all boxes and I sit there for a while scratching my head how to select the inner boxes lmfao.
ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-toehbuTYdZE.html must try these tutorial Not the link is for rigid body but there is a video in this channel
I'm gonna try to make 3D animated videos with blender soon but I need to know a lot of stuff about it so thanks for making a little series of how to use blender
How did you make the wrecking ball stick to the chain? I can't make them stay together. The ball always falls to the ground which makes sense of course. I tried to follow the key presses but had no luck so far. Thanks!
How do I do 4:15 with the newer version of blender Edit: I figured it out just select everything, right click, then press set origin: origin to geometry
I CAME IN LIKE A WRECING BALL!!!!!!! I NEVER HIT SO HARD IN LOVE ALL I WANTED WAS TO BREAK YOUR WALLS ALL YOU EVER DID WAS WRECK ME YEAH YOU YOU WRECK ME
