Definitely this. Personally I think Boxcar is one of my favorite albums of all time. This album is the first work after Boxcar so the influence is all over it. It's darker and more serious. I always wondered why this album was self-titled, but I think it's when they really found their sound. Such a good album.
Blink is the only band that I know of that has three (some say 4) albums that could all be ranked number 1 of their catalog. Of course this has its own problems as well, because it means its REALLY difficult to match the level of quality with future releases. Its hard to look at a title completely objectively when a band has a run of three 10/10 or 9/10 albums. in my opinion this is why Modern Blink gets so much hate from fans now neighborhoods onwards. IMO they're frankly just a great band, and each are fantastic songwriters, even on their first (studio) album Chesire Cat you can already hear how good they are. Chesire is my lowest rated album, at a 7/10. Which is good and above average, but whats above average when compared to perfection?
Definitely listen to the +44 album, Mark and Travis project after blink-182 went on hiatus. I freaking love this album and now and then listen to it in it's entirety. It's really a shame they never released a new album, even though it's because they got blink back together.
favorite album of all time right here. A masterpiece with Stockholm Syndrome being an absolute favorite would love to see you check out the next full Blink album Neighborhoods
this album was one of the crown jewels of unsung genius producer jerry finn who helped create the sounds of all the best bands of this little era of music. you should check out Sing The Sorrow by AFI. another masterclass from jerry
I literally had a come to god moment listening to this album with good quality headphones and an official copy for the first time after listening to an mp3 disc rip with shit earbuds for years
i had to pause when you said these notes at like 20mins the guy who made most their albums passed away. hes responsible for this good shit. so we arent gonna find them ever again... edit ive been waiting angels and airwaves had hope then their engineer died after love an its been shit since... just indie crap sound ever since
The Stockholm Syndrome Interlude was with vocals by Joanne Whalley, in which she is reading Mark Hoppus's grandfather's letters that he wrote to his grandmother during World War II.
If you watch the documentary of the recording process of this album you will understand better everything. It's is magical if you love blink and this album. Robert Smith said the same you told about blink and his band so you get the point only listening the albums, amazing. The next you should react is +44 and you'll conclude the etape of jerry Finn with this guys (boxcar racer was also with him). That man was magic too. Take care man
The ending of Feeling This with the two audio vocal tracks mixing was a mistake. It was originally supposed to just fade out, but they thought it sounded cool.
I'd be pretty curious to find out what you think of Angels and Airwaves. It's quite different from Blink but has a, at least to me, unique sound. Their first album or I, Empire are both good listens imo
Haven't read thru the comments yet, but if it wasn't suggested you should look into the making of this album. I found it interesting. This album has a lot of the Boxcar Racer sound to it.
They spent a year making this album based on something Travis said: "Let's just make an album like it's our first record. Just make whatever music we want to make." And they did. Maybe my fav album of all time. I always say you have to listen to the whole album, not just a song.
The girl in the Always video is Australian Singer and T.V Host "Sophie Monk". She was part of group called "Bardot". And now hosts and is part of a lot of Australian reality T.V
Fun fact, only Travis was allowed to kiss Sophie Monk, none of their wife’s allowed them except Travis’s at the time because she was an actress and knew it was for film. 36:11
I like at end how lost without you ends with that drum beat. It feels like a heart beat that matches the intensity of the faster tracks....then it stops and the shows over.....
Since you asked, their influences were Bad Astronaut, Fugazi, and The Cure on this album. They wanted to experiment with a different sound while staying punk, so the resulting album was this. As for what the lady in that interlude is talking about, it's a letter Mark Hoppus' grandmother sent his grandfather during WWII. They got a woman named Joanne to read it for the album and the result is that very eerie build into Stockholm Syndrome.
Cheshire Cat was a very different album from the others! I felt they weren’t experienced with writing songs that well yet! But I gotta let that one grow me though. I love Blink 182
Right I think one of the songs one of the members grandmothers had letters of their grandfather from the army or something and I think one of those songs was “Stockholm Syndrome”
You should watch Blink perform "A Letter To Elise" live on MTV. Robert was watching and even gave the faintest smile that only Robert could give. Haha.
Now is the perfect time to dive into their side projects and then dip into Buddha, Cheshire Cat, and Dude Ranch before continuing onto Neighborhoods Dogs Eating Dogs, California/Deluxe which you could separate as a two parter, Nine, and One More Time
this record is forever. Untitled is goated. Check out When your heart stops beating by +44 which is another side project by Travis Barker aND Mark Hoppus
Stockholm Syndrome Interlude is a woman reading letters Mark found that his Grandfather wrote to his Grandmother during WWII while he was stationed in Europe.
If you happen to like Alkaline trio, you might end up like Blinks album NINE. They replaced Tom (the lead singer) with Matt Skiba (the lead singer of alkaline trio) and made 2 albums with him (California and NINE) me personally I liked NINE a lot. They brought Tom back for One more time and they will probably keep Tom
This whole album is very experimental. Blink changes their sound and explores a lot of different ideas in this album and they crush it which has made this album a timeless classic!
The album booklet explains every song in this album it has an explanation something like Stockholm syndrome it's a letter that the grandfather of Mark wrote to the grandmother when he was in war
What’s wild is I got the album. I think I read in the book that Travis Barker he dedicated the song “I Miss You” to his mother at the time was deceased.
If I can recommend while it's not the same as this Dogs Eating Dogs was a really good EP they released after Neighborhoods and at the time to me felt like a return to form from the self titled era
@@91Definite as I've gotten older compared to when I first heard neighborhoods I actually like the album more now than I did This is Home, Wishing Well, MH 4.18.2011, and Kaleidoscope all resonate with me more now
