@@JoeMACofNACgood drumline drums are nothing close to "flat". Multi-tonal bass drums and tenors form entire melodies. Different timbres of the various cymbal sounds (simple crashes versus fusions and other techniques most people have no idea about.) Snares are the most well-known and in your face, and a good line will have them tuned crisply and precisely. Look up WGI or DCI drumlines and you'll see that it's anything but "flat"!
Each of these guys live for this song. Between Tom's "accent", Mark laying down some sweet vocals, and Travis giving us his all, it truly is magic. I love this band so fucking much.
Tom sounds like every 2005 high school student trying to immitate Tom's "accent" on that track lol. man these guys got old...which mans that I got old. Still makes me feel young hearing this again.
I grew up on Blink182, they're my favorite band and have been now for a long time. I grew up a broken home, abusive father, abusive mother, in and out of foster care, in juvie etc... I guess I identified with their music and it's the first music I remember loving. Now as a nearly 40 year old dude (im 39 and how dare you!) I still love them. I put 182 in most of my gamertags etc... as a tribute to them. Something about their music just really spoke to me as a kid and I've just loved that unique style ever since. Edit: i realized this seemed depressing. I work in mental health now, I've done years of therapy myself and addiction counseling etc... I love my job, I love to give back and use my experience to connect with people who are struggling. Blink182 is still my favorite band.
Yep Gday we go similar journeys of possibility same parents, lol! Have you seen these guys live when they done a cover of Metallicas sanitarium look it up blink 182 sanitarium live. It’s better then metallicas version good band, the guys have gotten old though still perform like there 25, lol
For the shit Travis has taken over the years the dude fucking rocks and is a hella good drummer. I really respect anyone who's lived the dream as long as he has.
@@8chicagotypewriter8 You're entitled to your opinion. If I'm to be honest, I've never been a fan, but do respect all he's done in music and with his life. Subjectivity makes all of us winners with choices. Peace.
@@8chicagotypewriter8Shittiest opinion I've ever heard about blink. Scott was good for the skate era, but was extremely dull and could only play the same tempo
Even just doing this demo for the interview the stick tricks just pop up. They're embedded deeply in his DNA. I love that. As a fellow drummer who hasn't played much in a few years? I taught myself how to do your basic stick spin? Which, by itself, looks kinda cool-ish? But as soon as I sat behind my kit & tried to incorporate the spin seamlessly so it fit in? Discovered I'd taught myself to spin it in the opposite direction of where it would look cool slipping it in during the songs. Any of them. And as you can probably imagine? I've been unable to break that habit & change the direction so it would just fit in perfectly. I think it's nice when drummers have their own stage show & do flashy tricks so the audience doesn't just ignore them. Some purists seem to hate stick tricks. Their loss. In my not very humble opinion.
@@christinemorris8578 I really hope she treats him well. Seems like it. I’ve read his book. He’s been through a lot and he’s humble and talented. Salt of the earth, full of integrity. I like this RU-vid comment section.
Its so amazing to sit and listen to other musicians also not make sense explaining their process. That makes me feel both alone and not alone and i love that.
lmao right? it's like a caricature of itself. So angsty teenager-like! " whatever mom and dad, you just don't get what it's like to be me [pronounced may] "
Travis has a good soul. He’s here for a reason and this new song exemplifies that. Everyone needs to hear this song, it’s not just about friends but family too.
@@MannyMo_ you're replying to multiple comments you must be a real hater my boi. Drumming isn't just about one thing or another. Imagine blink without Travis' insanely creative drumming. That's why he's a legend who has haters like you in the first place.
hell yeah...top class musician.thank you for all the songs you all wrote and all the music you all wrote to keep all of us going thru lifes bullshit challenges!!!
Exactly. He's way more creative than the vast majority of drummers, and, while he wasn't the most technical 20 years ago, he's become a monster in the last several years. These old losers saying they would outplay him haven't watched his practice sessions as of late.
When they first came out, I thought they were posers want to be punks but then I realize they’re actually talented musicians just playing style of music that they enjoyed listening to growing up and they put the little twist on it. It’s amazing when you grow up and stop being less judgmental and then you actually start enjoying things more. I’ve never enjoyed blink-182 as much as I do now in my 40s because it reminds me of when I was in my late teens early 20s teens early 20s.
For someone that is so well known, documented and accomplished… I still feel Travis is really underrated and kind of under appreciated. I know I’m not alone in these thoughts but I wonder why.
probably because the people who like him really like him, but the people who dont like him dont really see anything special in him. After all most of his career is essentially just being an extremely solid punk drummer.
He is just about the most high profile drummer of the past several decades. He's clearly not underrated. Drummers don't put him in that s-tier greatest of all time conversation because he doesn't have the body of work to justify that, but among most casual listeners he's insanely highly rated
It’s insulting to put Travis Barker and Danny Carry together in the same sentence. Danny Carry is so exponentially above Travis Barker. Sit down for 15 minutes and you can learn any blink-182 song note for note. Least innovative drummer to ever walk the face of the earth.
@@cbingham.mp4265while I completely agree he shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence as Danny carey, I don't think you should judge anyone by the band you know them from. Travis Barker in blink 182, is very different from Travis Barker in box car racer. He is a professional musician and plays to what the style of music/song/lyrics calls for, that in no way translates to his actual talent.
Not a blink fan but saw em on this current tour and they were great. Sounded great live n the energy n vibe in the stadium was really nice. Now I'm seeing them again in Sept at a festival.
Its not a complicated song to play but its iconic, i always put my own spin on it too. I was a young teen when the album came out and i was first learning drums. He was my favorite drummer at the time. Blink will always be one of my favorite bands, even before this the college rock was my childhood
I think that’s my favorite song by them. Definitely had a short Blink 182 phase about 12-13 years ago doing lots of driving and listening to their greatest hits on the drive and I played I Miss You a lot.
Caaara, sou muito fã do som de vocês... I Miss You marcou minha adolescência e sou muito fã de bateria também. Parabéns!! Que Deus continue abençoando a carreira e o trabalho do Blink 182👊👊👊🙏🙏🙏
This was my FAVORITE BAND when I was in High School. I was OBCESSED with their music. I had FINALLY FINALLY gotten tickets to see them in Chicago and I wrote the date on the calendar and was sooo excited. Then one Sunday morning I see an article about their show they did the night before in Chicago. I'm like wait.... I look at the tickets, I look at my calendar and I missed the show. I wrote down the wrong date. I was sooo upset and disappointed that I stopped listening. I was soooo upset.
