Block Razer Bloatware 

Great advice. All this time, I've just used Task Manager to disable it as a startup app but I neglected to check for other processes the install put in the system -- turns out all I was disabling was the GUI from loading and the processes were all still there in the background. Those sneaky bastards!

But I don't want RGB software controller, I want macro functionality controlling buttons and applications that launches for Razer products If you have solutions I will be very appreciate it Chris

I don't care about RGB, I use a Razer one handed keyboard and a Naga mouse, however, for gaming. I haven't found an alternative to controlling the keybinds for the Razer Tartarus and Naga.

What about controlling DPI and other gaming settings??

Razer software is a personal nemis that made me regret buying their hardware that is otherwise really nice. Thank you SO MUCH MAN. How have they been allowed to keep this going? Seriously its almost like they made the software to gimp your system.

I've had a Razer mouse for a few years. I'm glad to be running Linux now as my daily, as dealing with the Synapse bloat on top of all the Windows shenanigans was a PITA! OpenRGB is a great project, I just hope they can figure out RGB on more AMD GPUs.

Always select CUSTOM option when installing programs, it's the golden ticket out of the bloatware prison. Uncheck everything but the core software you need, sometimes you have to click Decline once or twice but you avoid a lot of unnecessary evil.

I'm so glad I stumbled across your channel Chris, getting rid of this bloatware is my new top priority. Recently encountered an issue where my Razer software refuses to run, and does not uninstall either; coincidentally my Discord application also seems to experience the same problem at the same time! Last time I just went ahead and clean reset my whole computer since I couldn't seem to find a fix. It has happened again and I am done with Razer's software as I am sure it is the culprit. If you happen to have a fix for me I'd love to hear it but regardless I will be taking the advice you provided here to heart! Thanks

For a long time those in the Logitech community have been trying to find a similar solution, to be able to see the Logitech pro x wireless gaming headset battery indicator without having to install the G-HUB. This G-HUB software is very poorly made and it is really not recommended to install it because it may crush your computer with unexpected restarts and critical errors (I really have a very good and new computer). The problem is that they also encrypted the information with the battery indication and it is not an open source, it has no indicator at Settings -> Bluetooth & other devices -> USB Receiver.

What about the macroing, and rebinding of buttons? I have a razer naga, with the swappable thumb pads, I have several of those numbered buttons bound to differ keys and macros

Isn't there software to control the mapping of the buttons of a mouse that works as well as the software from manufacturer?

I don't care about the rgb but the 1000hz polling rate is also locked behind their software. What I recommend is letting synapse turn on to load the polling rate profile, and then disabling its servives in windows service manager.

Prior to the Synapse 3.0, I didn't mind using their software. I had a Razer Naga Hex and it has worked wonders. Later on, looking for a little of an upgrade, I tried the Naga Trinity. The hardware itself is fine, and rather liked it. But the software, Synapse 3.0 BETA at the time, was horribly executed. Profile switching was terrible -- mouse functions would halt while it switches profile. Eventually I got fed up and ditched the mouse altogether. I went with another mouse but that's another story. In the end, I did not like their Synapse 3.0 software, its state, and the fact that when I had it, the 3.0 was in beta for over 6 months with no fallback/stable/legacy version to use. Since then, I have avoided all Razer products by choice.

My concern with razer is the amount of telemetry generated by the devices, i dont like the idea of having a keyboard that has typing patterns and keystrokes sent off to Razer - its a good way for miscreants to harvest bank details isnt it?

There is huge bug in forums and reddit over Razor Synapse where it spikes WMI service CPU usage to large amount. Reports go back from months. Have to restart WMI service after loading Razer Synapse to fix. But every time you load Synapse you have to reload WMI service.

Just one important thing you missed that therazer software lets us set the mouse setting , like DPI and Button mapping. is there other 3rd party software which lets you do that

I started using OpenRGB after the software made by the manufacturer of my motherboard and GPU (Gigabyte) attempted to install Norton Antivirus without even asking.

I use the software for mouse macro's. What would you suggest for that.

I used to love using the Razer Orbweaver / Nostromer products (the software wasn't as bad back then).. Once I moved to Linux those controllers became kind of useless since they require the Razer software to change any keybinds. It wouldn't be as bad if those settings would be stored on the device itself, but they insist you use their software and so I stopped using their products.

my friend bought new razer mouse, sad... anyways he uses macro gamer tool in razer software, is ther FOSS equivalent ? im happy i switched to linux mint btw.

I love their peripherals.. remember i built a new pc with a Ryzen 9 5900x and the new 7900 xtx. With razers bloatware installed i was idling around 40c+ and when i uninstalled it my idle temp went down to around 30c. this is unacceptable and a shame on their part. OpenRGB is awesome, still need to find a good lightweight macro program and I will be all set.

Hey Chris, what do you think about Asus' "Armoury Crate" - is this another tool that bloats our systems with services or do you think it is a great way to keep the system drivers up to date?

You're not wrong actually, I bought a razer viper ultimate earlier this year in a sale, and the software I flat out refused to install its horrible.

I fixed this problem very easily: I never used *anything* RGB with my computer.

I literally had to put up with the default rgb for the kraken headset because their drivers drove me crazy. thank you so much for shedding some light on this

I've fallen down the rgb rabbit hole. Fans, keyboard, gpu and ram. I decided that I wanted everything tied together to get best use of SignalRGB, but needed a controller for my fans. The Razor Chroma fit the bill, but I had no idea about all the stuff that comes with it. I would have checked it out if I was really happy with the way Signal is coming along.

The problem is that I lost the only feature I was interested in which is macros and I haven't found any solution so far. Do you know if there's an alternate key-mapper out there for Razer products? I would like to use the Tartarus V2, but I do not want anything to do with Synapse.

I only use the software for my mouse but wondered if I could just remove it after I configured the dpi to 1600 and hz to 1000? Does it need the software to run or have a saved config for the mouse or does it just save the config onto the mouse and then you only need the software if you want to change something?

I fix and use my old razer keyboard/mice just to avoid their new synapse software. Extremely frustrating their older peripherals don't work on synapse 3 and you have to use a combination of old and new software if you want full functionality.

Razer Synapse is actually useful if you have Razer headphones. The default EQ setting is flat, and Synapse allows you to tweak it to get noticably better sound quality

I use macros, custom DPI settings, adapt mouse to some pads. i find it useful.

from my experience,razer is really the worst

This is HUGE, although unfortunately I use the macro module in synapse, so there's no workaround for me, still extremely useful

Fully agree, too much, so is Nvidia. All these software companies need to stop adding so much bloat.

I've been installing only the Razer Synapse without anything else from the additional crap from the checkboxes. And i've not been having any problems with just having the core program installed. Plus, i can go into it and adjust DPI and profiles and macros and shit. So it isn't all that bad. As long as you only install the base core Razer Synapse without anything else.

I don't like messing with permissions, it's too tedious and isn't portable (it doesn't work on FAT like flash-drives, and not all commands copy them between volumes). I try to adjust permissions as infrequently as possible. What I usually end up doing is to delete the target folder and create an empty dummy file with that same name then set the read-only, hidden, and system attributes. That works for _most_ things (like stopping Unity games from making an Analytics folder with thousands of files).

2:38 Isn't Unix/Linux much OLDER than Windows? Wasn't UNIX developed in the 60s? So when did Linus Torvalds develop Linux? Did he develop it before or after Microsoft developed Windows NT? The current iteration of Windows we use now is 64bit which has been around since Windows XP 64bit (or Vista?)

SignalRGB is really awesome stuff for all kind rgb's. Some motherboards have bioıs option for disable auto install stuff. Asus Armory Crate or Razer like apps can be disable by bios.

I knew they were bad but not that bad. I would love to hear some cool server 2019 type of videos for cool security settings or configuration. Great video as always. mouhahahah:)

I know this is an old video so nobody who knows may see this, but I'd love to know if you can reassign mouse buttons without razer (or other brands) software on PC. Their software is usually what cripples them.

Bro, I thought I deleted it and I had a bad feeling so i checked this video and it was still installed kinda just deleted everything that was in the folder.

A little off topic. How about a printer that i fully intend to use locally, but the software constantly asks me to create an online account. Weird.

I use synapse for many of its features other than just lighting control and I'm used to it and find it quite intuitive to use compared to many other peripheral apps. I just deselect all the modules that I don't need during the installation. But my biggest problem with it is that it very often fails to auto-switch profiles when launching games. I also have logitech G-hub installed and it switches profiles flawlessly. Don't know why it's so hard for Razer to make it work right.

!!! I have a BIG problem!!! Anyone else have the same issue & found a fix?? !!! The headache's I'm having with Razer products & I'm sure many others are the same but people who use Razer's software to change settings on the hardware it self???. The only reason I installed Synapse (The only piece of software I install when I'm prompted to install 500 other pieces of useless software) is to change my mouse DPI, Lift off distance, Power off time after inactivity ect. The biggest issue of all is I have the Razer Death adder V3, Great mouse but as soon as I close Synapse (Through Task Manager) none of my settings save to the mouse. I've tried tones of research & tried every way possible to not have it pointlessly running in the back round constantly whilst gaming but none of my settings save to the mouse??, It goes back to the out of the box settings. (DPI button with colour coordinated dpi settings, Red - 400dpi Green 800-Dpi ect.). So frustrating that YOU NEED to have there software open & running just to be able to use the product YOU purchased with YOUR own money to make sure its 110% functioning properly. Find it amusing that in the software settings under the "Auto Launch Synapse when windows starts" section it says "Note: Disabling Razer Synapse may affect your device's functionality." Key words there "May affect"... Bullsh*t more like "DOES affect it". Spend $250.00AU on a mouse that i cant use proeperly unless i run synapse. Any one found a soloution??

I gave up Razer because of their crazy software,they were some of the first to use this , but there are others. I started to use Corsair,, and they are doing the same now. Nvidia is notorious for doing this. The method I used first for Google Software reporter tool, another resource hog. Everybody now wants to install their own malware on users computer. And I would understand it if it is something free, they have to survive somehow. But you already spend money, lots of money in some cases, to buy their stuff, so why they are doing this?

Wow. I didn't know this until I bought my first Razer mouse. Nobody said anything about the software keep nagging at you to install it.

I've been using this for a few years and love that it is the only RGB software I needed to install. Thank you for doing a video on this, the other big youtubers wont. I have been asking them to make a video on OpenRGB.

Its sad when you need a VM of windows (if your mouse isn't supported on the linux software side) to stay away from Razer bloat but still have access to the settings . But well worth the hassle since I rarely have to change anything.

Wish I'd found your video sooner - I had to wrestle synapse into submission that took many frustrating hours...and I'm rather 'puter savvy myself (not quite your level, tho). All I wanted was to control the lighting on a new Razer keyboard...nothin' complicated. I was this close () to returning the keyboard to BestBuy - but the madder I got the more I saw it as a challenge to not admit defeat. It's still a clunky piece of bloated crapware - but at least I have it functioning fairly trouble-free at this point. It's still slow to initialize on startup.
