Blocked drain had a strange object in it and it was a first for me this was. setting asside the 5kg Weight plate that was sitting in the bottom of the manhole, after I cleared the obstacle the drain flowed freely.
Before the H&S mob start on going inside a manhole I carried out a risk assessment and used a gas detector to check for gas before entering, the depth was around 1.5m and I was simply recovering a foreign object which took 30 seconds. It was a domestic situation and I was not a lone worker.
My job was to map the site to find the drainage for a customer who was looking to build on the plot.
These drains are main drainge from the utility company and they told the customer it was not up to them to map the location of the drain so he called me.
I used a sond and pipe locator to find the direction and position of the drain.
