just amazing. he was born for the moment. this exact moment in time. "...You ask what is our policy? To wage war by land, sea and air with all our might!...against a monstrous tyranny never surpassed in the dark and lamentable catalogue of human crime...You ask what is our aim? Victory. Victory at all costs!"... For without victory there is no survival for the British Empire or free Europe. just an awesome speech for May, 1940. USA is not in the war for another 18 months.
Yup. As I understand it Britain were fighting for what was right. Would have been easier to ally with Germany. There weren't much resources left before the Americans started helping.
@@paulwalsh6734 Eh, people often underestimate the resources; and that's not a criticism, took me a while to change my perspective on this too. Though surely times were tough, and things were scarce, and I'm not an expert who can tell you exact details, but I would like to point out: Churchill isn't mentioning the British EMPIRE because it sounds nice. At this point the Brits were still in control, in some shape or form (again, not an expert, so I don't know the exact details of the politics and the administration) of Canada, India, Australia, and about half of Africa. Biggest empire, in terms of size, in all of human history so far. HIGHLY unlikely the Germans were going to win the resource-side of things, in the long run, unless they somehow managed to cut off Britain from all of it's major trade-routes. To be fair, the Germans certainly tried. Hence the naval battle for the Atlantic, and the significance of ports on the north coast of Africa like Tobruk. To be sure, US help was VERY welcome. In my amateur and humble opinion, the most important contribution of the US, especially at first, was their help in protecting shipping in the Atlantic, and the fact that they had their industry well removed from the front and weren't directly involved themselves at first, meaning they could focus on mass production. But that's just my view of things, I could very well be wrong, certainly don't know everything. One thing I know very little about is how effective the Axis were in cutting the UK off from it's colonies.
Among the greatest men to ever live, sitting up there with America’s Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt. May the Anglo-American alliance last for all time against the many tyrannies of the world!🇺🇸🇬🇧⚔️
Yes and no he had many flaws but he saved Europe during world War 2. He's responsible for millions of Indians starving to death and Gallipoli also was a large part on him
@@elenachacon8660 yes we need him at Ukraine probably if you think about his ww2 achievements against Germany but i am turkish and when you go to ww1 age Winston Churchill he was the general ho directed the naval landing to the Turkish strait of Çanakkale which was the bloodiest front that Turkish people fought in ww1 other than the western front of Turkish war of liberation so that means i should hate him. Most of the Turks have a grandfather of their father or grandfather who has died in that front. And the only reason that that front was there is to kill soviets which was the whole reason that Germany lost ww2 which means that if he was successful, Germany could of won ww2 by successfully defending Normandy which would be basically the end of democracy.
I, a man not living in a place like Saudi Arabia or Iran, gained sole custody over my son all the four consecutive times that I had to fight my ex-wife in court (three times) and during a mitigation process. I could not have done it without this Great Man. I listened to his speeches that I had on cassette, and what especially inspired me was the one he gave to the boys of Harrow School, when he says: 'Never give in. Never, never, never give in.'
„You ask, what is our policy? I say it is to wage war by land, sea, and air. War with all our might and with all the strength God has given us, and to wage war against a monstrous tyranny never surpassed in the dark and lamentable catalogue of human crime. That is our policy.“ [British Prime Minister Winston Churchill] 💙💛
Thank you so much for maintaing and uploading these extremely valuble historical archives. Your a Hero to future generations. May we never forget the horrors that the World Wars wrought on us all.
Another powerful speech by WSC which included this exhortation; Arm yourselves and be ye men of valour, And be in readiness for the conflict, For it is better for us to die in battle, Than to look upon the outrage of our Nation and Altar. May 1940.
@@rohan4273 read the facts, the fault was NOT churchills. besides, would you feed 3 million indian civilians or 3 million members of the british armed forces fighting the germans.i get that many indians fought the british with the germans and japanese but dont blame him for all those deaths
He understood the importance of fighting spirit and high morale. Britain and its empire took a battering between 1939-42 to Churchill's great frustration but by 1943 the tide was turning thanks to air superiority and an over extended enemy.
I am finding courage in Late Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill in facing the great challenge of Covid19 on the nurses doctors and the common men. Let us do our duties with honor.
Youre not facing Covid19 youre hiding from it hiding isnt courageous which makes your comment look pretty limp 80 years ago MEN faced their enemy not self isolated or shielding from it
War and a pandemic are not the same. War against a tyrannical madman and the potential subjugation and enslavement of your people is not the same as a virus that bears no malice towards you and who's only aim is the preservation of it's existence at the expense of yours. Don't compare the two please.

@@TheDoctor1225 He's not saying anything wrong. A Pandemic has no comparison to a dictatorship over the entire continent of Europe killing, raping, pillaging, assaulting and using disturbing ways of science to anyone whom they deem a "lesser race" or speaks out against them. If anything, I can agree with this comment because this pandemic is leading into a world controlled by a dictatorship based off of a fear of pandemic, fear of racism, fear of each other and hate towards those who don't agree everything is true and moral. It seems only a small group know about what's coming.
Recommend watching Darkest Hour as it highlights the tremendous efforts he put in at the start of his reign as Prime Minister when everyone was against him to everyone being united around him.
Britain declared war before France was prepared and without it's approval .... dropped them right in it .... the Tories were absolutely crap at war , as then , and always since . If Churchill had been any good at strategy when first sea lord as he was at writing speeches when PM , there might not have been a conflict longer than 3 months . It seems every move Churchill made was to promote and further the longevity of war ... the truth is that when Hitler rose to power and led the world down the road to confrontation , many other Hitlers rose to power with him in many different countries . Adolph Hitler was got rid of .... the rest of them are still there ..... Churchill was a monster .
@@epilobia1 a french Communist point of view. We were not ready. Hitler was bad but churchill a monster. Mao and stallin good kids. Love mother land russia
@@lionsinofpride2083 Mao good, Stalin good. Gulags? They didn't exist! Even if they did it was because they deserved it. The Great Leap Forward? It was a success! 50M people died of hunger? Fake news. But that Churchill, what a monster, fighting off the germans, who would dare?! Seriously, you just sound like a n@zi denying The Final Solution.
At 87 years of age I can honestly say this GREAT PM was the best person ever to lead our country. What a difference between him and this little man in charge now
There are files if you are interested of the nazis planning of wiping out about 80% of populations such as the European Soviets and enslaving the remainder. He didn’t have much of a plan to destroy the British as he thought of them as brothers but in the end Hitler would have killed several tens of millions.
I m so sorry... Where are in this speech all the Humans where died in the Name of the brithish Empire? I mean therefore: The people of the colonies... What a surprise... I May say: thank you, that the Future tells, Not all of that, wich the History aint gonna Tell us, IS the truth!!!
The great Churchill fought in one of Britain's last cavalry charges, in hand to hand combat. He could make that speech because he had seen much combat in his younger days as a lieutenant.
@@chrismcmorrow9738 thats a very pretty speech it does not change the fact that whilst million of brits would be paying a terrible price for that speech in the years to come, whilst churchill is sitting down to the finest meal brandy and chioce cigars money can buy and the rest of great britain are making do on rations so please spare me your patriotic chants.
@@richardbailey3343 I'm confused at what you've got a problem with? The fact that Britain didn't remain neutral...? Or the fact that Churchill didn't personally fight the Germans with rifle in hand
@@scapingby hi justin they are good questions il do my best to answer them Firstly we declared war on germany for invading poland i suspect we could have remained neutral..
Doubt Britain had an option to keep out. Nazi Germany would have demanded a surrender. Some things, though, as Churchill contends, are too valuable to ever surrender.
