After loosing peter, Larry talks to Lori who had a 2017 Ford F-150 2.7L Ecoboost engine. She states that on cold start in the morning there is a bit of blue smoke that come out of the tailpipe. Larry tells her that it is an issue with the turbo system that is causing the smoke she is seeing. Larry describes is as oil that is seeping through the turbo seals and getting into the engine through the intake manifold.

My 2019 F-150 2.7 did this at 30k miles. Dealer took care of the TSB under warranty. Turbo oil supply tube on drivers side. No blue smoke now.

Thinking that turbo oil return line is the problem for my 2.7 as well.

I have a 2020 Ford Explorer St with the 3 l and it does this I feel like it also suffers from the same line. I know the engines aren't identical but they're very similar very

I have a 2.7 too, oil change every 5k Pennzoil Pure Platinum 5/30 religiously and I always let it idle a minute or two when I come to a stop, let the turbos cool down, not sure that it really does it any good, just a friend had a Subaru turbo in the mid 80’s and that was advice a mechanic gave him after he had to replace it around 70k. never get on it cold and stay out of turbos as much as possible. Also peck on the roof 3 times and clap 3 times every time I get out for luck,,,,,,,,,,,kidding about that,,,,,,,,, but 85K and love the truck and stout lil engine. I’ve seen some things about a new design oil supply line to the turbos the one that has tiny filters on it, not sure if that’d help at all, but people said it cleared up their start up smoke. Great show and I subscribed!

Great info. Didn't have the answer for a similar issue with my car, but good info nonetheless. I drive a 2010 MB C300, 2.0L V6, 135, 000 miles, and full synthetic oil per MB specs. Faintly blue smoke on cold starts. No turbo. MB authorized service says not to worry about it.

TSB 20-2207. Just dropped my truck off for this. Its an oil sending tube. The new one has one gasket instead of two so the oil can drain backwards and not be trapped and forced through on startup.
@daputty68
@daputty68 Год назад
How does the one gasket actually solve this problem?
@keyoke69
@keyoke69 Год назад
@@daputty68the oil drains backwards now when you shut the engine off I suppose. The second gasket acted as kind of a check valve I guess. It doesn’t have excessive blue smoke on startup now though. Time will tell. My truck is a 2020. Im not sure if it’s the same on 2017 models.

@@keyoke69 Thanks for the reply. I still don't get it. It drains backward uphill back to the engine block? I'm glad it fixed your problem. I'm dealing with this now.

This should be a recall mine is a 2015 i have had a catch can on it for years , as of 2023 their are so many people complaining of this in 2021 they fixed the problem so they knew what was causing it , i have seen many videos of people having to change the oil line giing to the turbo .

Also oil in the intercooler piping is normal due to the pcv system.

I just had my turbos replaced on my 2017 Explorer 3.5 ecoboost engine and I'm getting as much smoke and even more since they were changed with only about 1000 miles on them. What else could be the problem? I can't find or get an answer from the dealership or online. Any ideas??

Since 2.7L is half the displacement of a 5.4L can I expect half the problems and expense ?
@GusMahn
@GusMahn 11 месяцев назад
If you're talking about a 3V 5.4, yes, half the problems, twice the power , and twice the fuel milage.

I have a 2014 f150 with the 3.5 eco and i just rebuilt both turbos and did the new lines for oil and intake. truck has 94k in miles and i get blue smoke only at idle once in a while. i run full synthetic oil and change the oil about every 6 months. is there anything you suggest to figure out the issue.
@jewlz4790
@jewlz4790 Год назад
Any luck finding out what it was? I was looking at a 2013 f-150 3.5 eco but he said it blows blue smoke I was thinking it was this issue or the seals on the turbos or rings or valve spring seals are bad.

2016 f150 2.7 with 93k miles. My turbosmart supersonic blow off valve bleeds while accelerating. I threw a P0034 and P0245 code. I do have a little bit of oil leaking out the intercooler. I’m pretty sure my turbos are leaking however I’m still getting really good gas mileage 29-22 hwy. I went with manufacture suggestions of 10k oil change(oil light of 100% is 10k miles with all synthetic oil using K&N oil filters. Ordered two brand new turbo. But I would really hate to do all that work and still have my check engine light on while my BOV still bleeds air under power.

@@mdutchy2582 why? Turns out all I needed was a $6 can of valve/ turbo cleaner sprayed directly into intake manifold. Sprayed half a can of that in. Every single performance problem went away. Truck is running smooth and like new.

I have this same issue , Dealership says i need new valve guides, and 2 cyl Heads, at a cost of $17,000. Mine is smoking like crazy as soon as I start it so i had it towed to dealer. Do you think it best to have another mechanic give me a better diagnosis, I feel like its the clogged turbos because I do see oil build up at the bottom by the iner cooler under the truck and the truck when running was burning alot of oil every week.
