I've always been jealous of the drumline as a wind player. they seem to have so much fun doing this with all the calling and funny shit they do during the shows and practice.
Zigzagtiger Like that helps make us less jealous lmao At least in our band we have a small group of ukulele players (4) and we take our ukes on longer trips so we can play on the bus or on lunch breaks
LiveUntouchable I mean I'm a drummer myself and I can say that you really do have to love it if you don't love doing it than it just seems like "ugh another run through let's get it over with" but if you love it then its like "yeah let's kill this shit!" it just makes the experience 100x better if you love doing it
Arilover123 456 I know that feeling I love doing it too it's the most exhilarating feeling after a show when you know you've put everything into your performance
im only a senior base drummer in high school and its still been one of the best times of my life doing marching band. though dethroning the ten year raining champions of your state by .05 of a point, breaking the state record, does tend to make a good impression. good thing too, im WAAAYY too poor to do Drum Corps..heh..that rhymes.
Really? What about the "DUTDUTDUT I LOVE YOU DUTDUTDUT I MISS YOU" god I love marching band. Its so much fun meeting other bands and everyones always nice and funny
*5:36** IS MY FAV PART LOL* *I love how everyone genuinely loves what they are doing our there and how they are all like family and goof around with each other!*
You can only spend so many days in 4 hour rehearsals 3 times a week with sweaty dudes and screaming women before you form great relationships with them lol
@@EndoClaw I know, i miss it so much. it's been 4 years since I wrote this comment and since then i marched all 4 of my high school seasons on snare. tryna get into an independent group
Closest thing I've seen to what it's like marching on the field. You can kinda hear what's going on but you mainly just listen to each other and do your thing. It's a blur and you're going on pure talent and muscle memory from playing these licks literally thousands of times. Back when I marched we didn't have Go Pros, count yourselves lucky the technology you guys have these days to remember how great percussion and marching is. You can't describe it unless you've done it. Way to go Bloooooo! You've deserved this for a while.
sullimd Yep we didn't have em either. Would've been cool though!! I marched 3 years out of 4 (you were in pit freshman year) and it really is crazy, the coolest thing to me was marching while you were backwards, then you really are just going off of count in your head and muscle memory for the next set of steps. Had so much fun. Edit: To clarify I meant like facing the opposite direction not just marching backwards lol should've worded that better, but the were a couple times a year at least where we were turned around and still keeping formation 👌 tricky stuff.
I marched old school drum corps long before the technology even existed As I recall timps had *just* been introduced. The tick system was still in place, lol. I loved it. Wish I hadn't quit.
The thing that brought back the most memories was the physical exertion indicated by the heavy breathing during the small moments of rest. I'd forgotten what that was like and this video brought it all back 25 years later. I was lucky enough to be part of one of the best lines in the state and the wave of exhilaration when you'd finish a performance that you knew was top notch - there's nothing like it.
You don't think about it until after it's done...you have a job to do. If you focus on it being the last time, you'll foul up. I remember deliberately putting the fact that 84 finals might be my last run with BD (and, in fact, it was by 1/10th of a point to Cadets), because i had to put my best performance out on the field...it wasn't until after we got on the busses home the next morning that it hit me....and it was a depressing ride back to California.
I didn't think about anything during the encore run; I was simply having a hell of a fun time on the field once more. During the actual finals run, I cried a few times because everything was so powerful. That whole day was an emotional wreck for everybody.
It's the little things like when he shakes the guardswoman's hand and the fist bump right before the snare feature are so wholesome because you can tell they all have a level of respect for one another. You can tell with the audibles and stuff that they live what they do. This was a very good show.
Imagine what would or could happen if many of these players didn't have to quit at age-out. Imagine the top band, or an All-star mix, perform (and getting paid to) at Super Bowl half time, where fans get to see amazingly athletic maneuvers and hear full stadium Drum Corps Sound.
4:15 PIZZA! 4:17 Kara Kara Kara killin' it! Ooo Zazki 4:34 I love you, I miss you. 5:36 Ja, Ja, Ja, Ja- woody- a- ta- 5:42 (I can't understand what they said) I GOT IT!
@@angelinahazell4960 oh yeah i totally forgot about "i like cheese!" it's definetly JOE woodie, it's been an audible of theirs since 2014, I believe, possibly even earlier.
My friend showed me this when It was released and it was my first time seeing what a drum corps was. Here I am now getting ready to march my first season of drum corps ever with legends. Thank you for starting my love for drumcorps.
Truly amazing to see the obvious bond and chemistry between these people! Really shows that Drum Corps is so much more than just marching and playing epic music!
I love how excited these guys are to perform. I just hopped on 2nd bass for my highschool drumline and I get so hyped when we perform , can't wait for the next year's to come
Sabian Jaeschke I also had bass 2 my 8th grade year, then moved to tenors my and sophomore year and was drum leader for 3 years, work hard and perform the hell out of every show you have!
I played flute in marching band, but for indoor drumline, I played cymbals. I have wondered what would it be like if I tried out for the base line, snares or quads, but I also wanted to try out for indoor colorguard since i always found it beautiful how the colorguard spins their flags, rifles and sabers 💕
Oh man this takes me back to being on the drumline in my high school. God those were some of the BEST times in my life. I miss marching so much! It was just a blast! Our band was never this big but its not about the size of the band, its about how well u get along with ur band family. and that is what band is all about. Family. I miss being on the field. experiencing the rush of playing in front of people, knowing what i had to do when i stepped foot on that field. I loved every single moment of it!
I march snare for my high school, so I can only imagine the excitement and adrenaline all of them had when they were playing the last few measures. Truly amazing
As I recall we marched our hearts out when we knew we weren't being judged. We placed 13th in prelims year. DCI asked us to perform exhibition while the judges tallies were calculated. We killed it. Later Every. Single. Official said had we performed that well in prelims we would have made the top 12. Prelims are beastly.
God I love their tuning so much. Those rimshots sound so crisp, and they have a great resonant quality that I don't hear anywhere else. Been trying to tune my snare like this forever. IMHO best tuning in DCI, but I'm sure I'm gonna get shit on for saying that...
You guys are so lucky you have no idea.. In my country marching bands don't even exist. Every time I watch these videos, I cry because they're so beautiful and awesome💖 I'm a drummer myself but I play an acoustic set. I'd do anything to be in a marching band, playing a tenor or snare drum
There is something that no non band member will ever know when it comes to marching band. In marching band your band becomes more than a family as you trust everyone while they do their moves. Your section/squad becomes more and more of your family as you guys work all season together and share the same instrument. You almost spend countless hours perfecting formations with all of these people! This is my senior year and I've made a friend this year from it that I hope lasts years to come as we share the same instrument and interests.
This was actually the first DCI video I ever watched, back around the end of 2019. I was looking for a performance of a percussion ensemble piece the other half of Percussion Ensemble 2 was doing in my freshman year of high school (for anyone curious, the piece I was looking for is called _Downside, Up and Around_ and is by Jeffrey Barudin), to which there was only like one, maybe two videos of it that I could find. Basically everything else was just stuff from this show. While _Down Side Up_ may not necessarily be my absolute favorite DCI show, it is certainly pretty high up there, and this video will always hold a very, very special place in my heart. Thanks for the HeadCam, Matt, and thanks for the video, Andrew.
This man deserves a thank you, this is the video that got me into drum corps and band all together. It feels like it was yesterday that I was trying to pad along to this in seventh grade. I am now going into my first year marching and independent group this season. So thank you whoever uploaded this video you’ve changed my life for the better!!
I’m so jealous but I love it! I’m a big colts fan and seeing you guys playing on the Indianapolis Colts Football Field is just amazing! Marching band is a huge play in my life so being able to play on this field is a big dream! Good job guys and keep working hard!
I love the great gig in the sky part it is just so great as being a mellophone and a Pink Floyd fan this just hits the spot and i hope to do something like this one day
I'm a freshman in high school and I play euphonium/marching baritone and I have always wanted to march for a drum corps for dci! I really want to when I'm older. It's a dream of mine. It looks like so much fun and the amount of work these talented people put into these shows are absolutely amazing!!
8:55 Ben Gunnarson from the Trumpet soloist video. I stopped at exactly that part that he was on the ramp in his video to find him in Matt Allen's video.
this is super impressive and really cool to watch but oh man the amount of effort and work you have to put into something like this is almost unimaginable
bro everyone makes fun of us band nerds but they never understand the hard work put in and the comradery that comes with all those long hours of practice after school.
