SPRING HAS SPRUNG IN THE PARKING LOT!
(Select 720pHD Picture Quality)
Rising above the shrill squeals of children playing chase in the shopping center parking lot come the rich acoustic, high-lonesome sounds of traditional American bluegrass. Musicians, “pickers” they call themselves, gather from near and far to play this music with roots that often go back to England and Ireland. The tunes reflect deep emotions of love and loss. As you will hear, spiritual music is also a moving part of the mix. And there is some down home gut-bucket bluegrass as well.
You will also enjoy some fine ensemble playing with several pickers sharing melody and rhythm with none dominating, a mesmerizing symphony of acoustics and subtle banjo percussion. Check out Jack Lewis' uniquely musical banjo style with his tasteful banjo vamps, Doug Buchheister's delicate mandolin embellishment, and Pat Moran's warm dobro fills. All support the feeling of each performance.
The “jam” is a spontaneous process - nothing planned or rehearsed. Each picker in the group has the opportunity to name his or her chosen song to perform, and the entire group plays along. It makes for an interesting jam each week since different pickers show up, and some of the same songs are sung in different ways. Even less experienced players get a chance to play and sing.
The Ocoee Parking Lot Bluegrass Jam is a well-established, open jam and has welcomed pickers of all skill levels for twenty-four years behind the Pizza Hut at 10870 West Colonial Drive, Ocoee, Florida 34761. The area is about 10 miles West of Orlando. People of all ages and backgrounds enjoy the Jams. It’s very much a place for families, young couples, retirees, children, pets, and tourists who make it one of their stops because they have seen the videos from many points on the globe. Weather permitting the Jam begins every Friday evening at 6:30.
See: articles.orland...

That is what I always think. If there is one thing that I really miss in my life, it is the ability to play an instrument the way the pickers do. .

Sound was as it always is, sharp and crisp, as was the video. The light is on the yellow side, but that is definitely from the parking lights overhead. Otherwise, your work is always spot on. Thanks.

Thanks, Dave, for taking the time to let me know. Yes sir, I'm aware of the color, and I've tried to adjust, but I just can't seem to get it right. Sometimes I just close my eyes and listen to the music through my headphones. Hope you're starting to thaw.

I was a police photographer for 15 of my 25 years and know the perils of the light situation. I don't know what type of video camera you use, but the older ones you have to live with this condition. The picture quality is and sound is what counts. It still does not take away from music. Maybe a little sepia would give it an old time look. Believe me I"ll take a little yellow tint over no music at all.
@vivatones66
@vivatones66 9 лет назад
It's a Nikon D3s. The parking lot is lit by one set of sodium vapor lights. I've tried a number of adjustments, but when I get the skin tones correct, the other parts of the image go yellow. If you are ever in Ocoee on a Friday night, I could use your expertise.

SEE 19:09 A tale of feuding and fighting in rural East Tennessee . . . Soulfully sung here by Lowell Trent in a voice reflecting the depth of the original tragedy. The story behind this song gives a clear picture of life in the rural mountains of East Tennessee in the late 19th Century: www.roanetnheritage.com/research/m&m/05.htm “The Hills of Roane County” Composers: The song is attributed toThe Stanley Brothers; however, the original poem with the same title was penned by Willis Maberry, a central character in the song, a portion of which is included in this video. In the beautiful hills, way back in Roane Country There's where I roamed for many long years There's where my heart's been tending most ever That's where the first step of misfortune I made I was about thirty years when I courted and married Amanda Gilbraith I then called my wife But her brother stabbed me for some unknown reason Just three months later I'd taken Tom's life For twenty five years this whole world I rambled I went to old England to France and to Spain But I thought of my home way back in Roan Country I boarded a steamer and came back again I was captured and tried in the village of Kingston Not a man in the county would speak one kind word When the jury came in with the verdict next morning A lifetime in prison was the words that I heard When the train pulled out poor mother stood weepin And sister she sat alone with a sigh And the last words I heard was Willie God bless you Was Willie God bless you, God bless you, good bye Sweet Martha was grave but Corey was better There's better and worse, although you can see Boys when you write home from the prison in Nashville Place one of my songs in your letter for me.

Maybe a filter of polarizing type. If the other viewers are like me, they won't mind. Its all about the players and the music. Hope to be there in the near future.

Great to see you back with old and new players. Great Spring video! Wish we were ready for outsides jams in the Northeast, still snow in the forecast! Do you know the name of the instrumental at 10:00. It was also in a previous video but added violin now makes it even better. Keep up the good work. Dave

Dave, thanks for the post. I'll try to get the name of the tune for you. We've had an unusually long Winter. Thought we would see snow for a while. I'm pleased you liked the video, thanks.
@vivatones66

Dave, the bassist, Bill Miller, had requested the tune when his turn came up in the round. It's title is "Billy in the Lowground." Quoting another source on the Internet, 'Billy in the Lowground' is the title of a very old fiddle tune, I have read; [it] refers to William the Conqueror, as in The Battle of Hastings 1066, being buried in swampy; ie., low ground. The poem referenced above borrows largely from Shakespeare's Hamlet " To sleep perchance to dream aye there's the rub" Hamlet was concerned that even in death he might still dream and then not be released from life. Hamlet was, after all, a bit off. 'Or to take arms against the sea of troubles and by opposing end them', is also more of Hamlet from the same speech." Another source, drawing fro Wikipedia, says "I've been told that the tune ... is Scottish in origin, and that the title refers to William of Orange at the Battle of the Boyne in 1690, where a "deep swampy ravine" figured in the tactics of the battle." Thanks for a great question.

The video keeps stopping, even setting it at the worst quality 144P it still will not play. This is why you have not seen me comment lately. I have cable internet so I have no idea. I got as far as 2:22 into the video.

Bill, in follow-up to my P/M, you may wish to consider "Disc Cleanup" (control panel) and clearing your browsing history, which also clear the cache (tools). Don't forget to note your passwords.
@old64goat
@old64goat 9 лет назад
I have been having trouble last night with other videos playing and not being able to get into sites. I stumbled around and managed to "clear cash" but my passwords were still okay so I had AVAST do a browser clean up and that seemed to make it better. However on long videos like yours I have to keep it at 320P because any higher it sometimes stopps. Short videos under 10 minutes I can set it to 720P if that video is in HD.
