Truth!!! Thank you for saying that and indeed you hear me put that on the record here… hopefully people watching this will go down that rabbit hole !! it was a joy to tour that summer with greg truly interesting Synthesist and keyboard player to this day..
Both Elliot Easton AND Greg Hawkes affected my approach to being a guitarist. The fantastic sounds he made on the synthesizers opened my imagination to creating awesome sounds that can be used for expression (vs. seeking some "signature tone" that guitarists chase after like some Holy Grail). The band as a whole teaches you ways to shift the focus from one member to another with little, short injections of sound -- now it's the singer, then the guitar, then the synth, then the bass, and then the drums. They just wove it all together and if you're really listening, the band sounds like a real conversation between the instruments, just like if it were people hanging out talking. Thank you Greg Hawkes for teaching me so much about music! :D

Wow thanks for that thoughtful response you are spot on and that exactly describes a big part of the genius of THE CARS!! the arranging and the songwriting and dynamics and everyone’s maturity … that they didn’t need to be making a statement throughout the entire 3 1/2 minutes song it’s incredible how many artists cannot do that and it makes those songs and albums still stand out from the crowd thanks for watching this video I really appreciate it
