This is a really nice comparison that reveals the quality of magic lantern raw. I love the look of the EOS M. It looks every bit as good as the Blackmagic. I shot magic lantern raw on the 5d mark 2 and sold it in 2014 for 4k cameras...then bought it again and can't stop shooting on it. I have a Panasonic gh6 but honestly love the look of the mark 2 raw so much that I shoot on it more than the gh6, which can put out some really nice images. I scratch my head and say...is it me or does magic lantern just look more filmic and interesting than the other cameras I've tried. The resolution holds up too. Thanks!
For my EOSM, I use a EOS M50 cage. You can see it in all my video where I made a behind the scene . Then I attach to it al my gear. Like handles, rods , etc…
I'm sorry for my late answer, only now I notice that RU-vid was helding the comments of my first videos. Thanks for watching! Using 1x3 or 1:1 modes eliminate almost always aliasing or moire from eos m shots
Amazing results. I really wonder how you match these two different camera's. I have tried several times to get the BMPCC look from the magic lantern Canon 5DMark3 raw footage but I did not succeed. Is it possible you can explain what things you did. Ot perhaps a tutorial. I think that many people are curious about this. Thank's in advance Richard
I'm sorry for my late answer, only now I notice that RU-vid was helding the comments of my first videos. First of all thanks for your words!! if you haven't seen it yet I made a video in which I explain the workflow to match the two cameras
@@russo-filmmaking thank's for your answer. I gonna look for this video. I assume it must be on your you tube channel. In case I don't find it I will let you know. Cheers Richard
@@russo-filmmaking thanks a lot. I have tried to match my Canon 5DMark3 to match the black Magic for a long time. But I was never happy with the skin tones. So I gonna study your tutorial. Just one more question. On the Color page, on the first far left tab Camera Raw, what are your Raw settings? Did you use REC 709 with SRGB gamma?
Hey nice comparasion bro, can you tell me about the crop factor on the Eos m? I have read people complaining about it, is it a problem? Also, do you recommend this camera for short films? I need to be able to do atleast a few takes, how long can you shoot in one take? Any information is appreciated
The EOS M has an APS-C sensor so the crop is x1.6 on a Canon. I recommend looking into any of the fantastic videos explaining the resolutions and how they work on the EOS M. It's honestly nothing foreign on this style sensor, and the pros definitely out weight the cons, especially if you know how to work with it. Plenty of people have filmed short films, even professional shoots with this. IMCE mentions a great example of one of his friend's shooting a Netflix film with this camera on ML. Also know that depending on what resolution and aspect ratio you use, you can shoot continuous (vids and forums will explain that too). Otherwise, ML always tells you how many frames to be expecting in RAW if what you choose is not continuous. Overall, it really is an impressive and capable mini beast with ML. Hope any of that info helps you!
it depends a lot of the environment . If you work in a could environment you don’t have problems with heat, and you can record continuously. Take in count that filming in raw generates huge files, so you don’t want to film clips larger than a few minutes (1 minute in raw is about 2.5-3 GB depending if you shoot 10 or 14bit and depending of the resolution you choose). In warm environment heat will increase up to 50-52 celsius degrees, so I suggest to shoot short clips.
Original footage as I said in the video is anamorphic cDNG 14 bit. When you import your cDNG Raw files in Davinci and transform them to final output rec709, it's normal they look darker. But they keep all the information of a Raw footage
Thanks for your comment!! With the new Magic Lantern Build the "CROP MOOD" developed by Bilal Fakhouri, the Canon EOS M it's very stable and reliable. There are 2 videos in the channel where I talk in deep about this new magic lantern build.
